Ned's Velodrome E-Bike

Sup bitches! Badgers are going all green and shit! (waits to be kicked out of the gang)

Just joking, we still love two smokes etc.

Anywho, Me and Cam are building a 'secret' new years weapon for beach and camping ground 'racing' and we needed a test bed for the motor controller (as it'll be electric) so made me a starter motor bike tonight.

so bike with friction drive starter motor. pushed the solenoid to 2mm from engaging and used that as the on/off switch for now. Will have a fully functional motor controller at some stage though.

Simple bracket to hold the starter motor at the top

even simpler one to hold it at the bottom.

Had a look with Cam just before and the theoretical max speed is 26KPH :) which is enough for some fun/take us to the bakery for lunch.

watch.....this.....space.....

You could if you setup a sprocket on the motor and used one of the front sprocket gears as your reduction drive and then used the normal rear gears and left the front one in the lowest mode. You should probably even change the front sprocket to another smaller one to get another reduction drive.

Hmm actually i think i have somthing that would make my life even easier two of these http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0255.htm into one of these http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0145.htm controlled by two of these http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/IFI-V884.html would only need to sort out mounting which should be simple and i would have a 7 speed ev bike  need to see if i have a suitable bike lying around tomorrow.

40 amp controller isn't much. We're building TWO 220A cont and 780A peak controller for our new years beast :)

The car starter stall current is HUGE! couldn't even measure it on our current clamp meter, and that does to 250A+ haha.

Draws 70A running without a load... but thats with the solenoid engaged as well which draws quite a bit.

120A controller; http://www.dealextreme.com/p/120a-bec-s ... otor-72655

i suppose not was aiming on using 2, thats 80amp continuous, although i have many more available (another 10 or so) i could just wire in parallel, i wonder how good those deal extreme motor controllers are? I at least know the victors are reliable and have proved their stuff in competatitve robotics working much harder than they should, as well as the fact they are available for me to use for free along with the motors and gearbox.
