Strictly speaking it would have been a bad look to run an open top car with a half cage at a summer race meeting. I don't know if it's just the angle of your photo above, but it looks like your main hoop is lower? Have you got final car specs available for the series? Wouldn't mind having a look. Truenotch Posted March 3, 2012 Author Share Posted March 3, 2012 Our main hoop is lower to fit under the hard top but it was that way before the series idea came about. Roll cages are a "free design" for the series anyway, so they can be as low or high as required for each driver. I've sent the draft regs to you by email. Truenotch Posted June 12, 2012 Author Share Posted June 12, 2012 So it's official - the MX5 series is going national on the back of the Pro7 series! I've been asked to run our car at as many rounds as we can justify and am pretty excited about the prospect of running in a national series. We'll be running at Levels in Timaru this October for the south island round of the National champs, and then again at Manfeild for the NZ Grand Prix meeting to crown a National champion. The full series is going to run at Timaru, Manfeild, Taupo and Pukekohe - unfortunately no Hampton this time round, but we can live with that. This means that I'm also looking for sponsorship now - if you know of any business that is interested in national coverage, while backing a driver who is a marketing/communication/PR specialist let me know. I'll be looking to raise around $5k to cover travel and entry fees (we'll still need to pay for race fuel, brakes, tyres and any damage too). I'll be pushing to win the 2012/2013 series and financial assistance will be crucial to make that happen. I had commitments with my little bro who was doing rockquest on Sat night (and his band won too ) . VG - we have 6' 2", 115kg people driving these things, you'd be fine. Most have tall cages to account for people like you and they're actually quite spacious. Arrive and drive packages are $500 a round - just sort out your entry and license, we do the rest. We can also do sprint meeting for $300 that you don't need a license for. Either way, it often works out better than taking your own car. Spence - basic regs are: Standard motor, standard box, standard diff, coilovers (your choice), full cage (or half cage if you're just doing the winter series), standard brakes with race pads, 15x7" max wheel size, 205/50/15 Toyo R888, Tops off, proper seat and belts. There's more room for the driver in my MX5 than there is in my RX-7 (and that was before the roll cage went in ). Are all the cars running LSDs? I'm going to experiment with a locker soon, but the idea is to keep them as cheap as possible. Torsen could be an option down the track...
