mad_max
My van is just about due for a WOF and the reverse lights dont go, I havent really looked at them as not a problem but do you need them for a wof. And could I hook them up to a switch if theres something wrong with whatever makes them go when put into reverse. The previous owner got it a wof with them as is but think it was a bit dodgy as is a few things that needed doing even just after it got a WOF. KKtrips
When I was doing WOF's they needed to either both go or neither go.. Weird rule I know.. I have a funny feeling now that if they are fitted they have to go so if you remove them then you shouldn't have a problem. Though I guess this wouldn't work if the reverse lights are part of the taillights..

Sweet, need to both go or none go would be the winner..

durty
Yeah my 360 kept blowing reverse light bulbs so I just removed the bulbs. Just make sure your extra careful cos other people have no idea you are reversing. Makes supermarket carparks etc interesting
keltik
Havnt had reversing lights in my wagon for 3 years now. Really should get around to hooking up the gearbox switch tbh, angle parks are annoying with no lights.
mad_max
Yea, Is a bit annoying reversing knowing that no1 knows your are, Wheres the fuse for them? There's no fuse in the fuse box for reverse lights, I assume they have one? Bulbs are good so something in wiring id say
keltik
9 times out of ten its the switch on the gearbox that packs a sad. I dont know about your van, but on my cars the switch has always just been screwed into the side of the box near the shifter linkages. Usually only $30-40 to buy a new one. Cullen
Bump. Saw a conversation on fb today where a couple of wof inspectors say they won't pass a car that doesn't have reverse lights. It's been a decade have the rules changed?

kws
My wife was failed years ago because only one of two fitted reverse lights worked. We were told "if its there it must work", much like fog lamps. But saying that, I have also had cars pass where neither of the reverse lights have worked (dodgy inhibitor switch). ajg193
Quite a lot of old toyotas only came with one bulb fitted from factory. Either that or every old Toyota I have bought has had a bulb removed at one point.
