82 SR5 looooong bed

190,000 miles approx

22r Petrol

Original throughout, expect for wheels paint and lowering

Riding on the right side  Left Hand Drive

Brought it in 2007 with the intention to run it has a daily, which lasted until the end of 2009 due to failure of its WOF with rust, nothing to major but I thought I would take it off the road and have it repaired properly rather than doing it half assed.

First registered in Minnesota USA in 82, then it went Alaska. Its traveled a fair amount of miles throughout the states, originally owner drove it from the far north of the states to LA where it was imported into Christchurch in 88.

This is what it looked like when I first brought it, minus the 18s as it was cheaper without them

Scored a new tray off trademe recently, which was a surprise at first to find one for this model

Shipped from Christchurch to Rotorua

Its rust free and only has a few minor dints from shipping. The original bed is pretty much gone due to rust and is not worth repairing

Present date 2011

Still sitting in storage waiting to be pulled apart.

Any how dug out the old VIR report to have a look at its history and decide to do some facebook stalking  to see if I could find the original owner who imported it. Any how the lady who brought it into the country surprisingly replied to my email.

I received this.....

Hi James.

I bought the truck in Alaska in 1985 from a school teacher named Mike who was the sole owner. I drove it from Alaska to Tennessee in 1986 and then acorss the country to LA in 1988. I shipped it to NZ since cars were expensive then and new immigrants could bring in one car duty free at that time. It has driven the length of New Zealand many times. I sold it in 2004 because the clutch appeared to be going. Where did you get it and what sort of condition is it in now? I had that car for 19 years and it was a good one. I may have a few photos somehwere.

Cool huh :D

What it used to look like circa 2004

Got the old rust bucket tray off today, oh my dam what a bastard of a job that was

Unbolted 3 bolts and had to cut the rest of it off  But as a bonus called in to a local wrecker a scored a good set of tray bolts for nothing

DSCF4356.jpg

This is what I'm working with now, rails should clean up well after sand blasting. But for now I'm just getting the new bed on and putting it back into storage

I had to move it from where its been sitting for the last 6months to a new location. Took it for a spin round some back roads which was fun. Looking forward to getting this thing on the road

Had to tow it to travel through town, Toyota towing a Toyota

Recently picked up a gen Toyota windscreen rubber

rubber_zpsb5ea795c.jpg

I rang the local Toyota dealership for the hell of it to see what they were worth, or let along even stock one. And they happened to have one but wanted $400 for it, flag that I said, but they offered it to me for $200 plus gst.

Still not content with that I took to ebay USA and found one, a genuine item and manged to get it and landed for $95NZ.....sweet!

Get you some of this barn find! I was reunited with my lhd 82 yota today. I had to move it from one side of the barn to the other. I fitted a battery and sprayed some cold start down the carb and the old girl fired right up and ran smoothly, stoked! Nothing seized, not bad for sitting for 2 years. I was able to drive it out and back into its new spot. This has kept the dream alive! Hope to have this on the road in the not so distant future
