yeah nah. Same casting numbers on each cam. This is a fairly common number cam,

The cams are individual castings, but they come as a pair with a factory 'part number' without any discernable relationship between casting numbers and factory part numbers.

Interstingly in and ex cams are interchangable, but the word it is better to have a slightly 'hotter' cam on the inlet side (if you had to choose).

That point was more for the Fiat forum im on as the casting numbers come up all the time, and they are very wierd.

Pretty much the only way to check them is to measure them.

Dowel for the timing wheel varys a bit too to change overlap and stuff between various models and between Fiat and Lancia versions of the same engine.

was suck to drive just after i painted it, when it was on bumps at the front and ass high,

handles real good now but looks funny with its big nose up

Far out, not the first time I've seen brass sheet in a cam bucket. Billy bodger gets around.

That crank definitely looks sketchy. My guess is someone rebuilt it in a hurry after oil starvation. Slapped it together without much knowlege and just chucked bearings at it randomally. Send it down for grinding and balancing if it's not too thin of metal.

Bin it's oil pump if you go to bolt it back together.. The cam wheels look sexy as tho

I don't know if its bullshit or not but some people say that you shouldnt re grind the 1995cc cranks because they are nitrided and you cant re nitride them. but yeah those wear grooves don't look great - i'll see what my books say about how much wear is okish on the weekend if I remember.

I also have 2 dipsticks, both came with the 2L engines, both completely different readings:

r1rv.jpg

Low on One is full on the other! Which is the correct one for a RWD/2L?

Remove sump, insert each one and compare marks against pick up and crank depth etc ??

Funny, I was just tidying some stuff in my shed 30 min ago and stumbled across exactly the same thing looking for the dipstick to use for the VX engine (which of course i didnt find since it's a silly short stumpy one to fit under the supercharger)

no idea which is right either though!

are you sure the escort diff is the same? I had a funny feeling the escort shared the same spline count/axle size with the 124 diff but the 125 diff was the same as the ford atlas (capri?) diff?

I could be completely wrong though

FUCK

I think/ thought 124 and 125 diff parts are the same, just the mounts are different (coil vs leaf) - the diff head can be removed from the front.

(i hope) you may be thinking late 131/132 diffs which are bigger and 'rear loading'???

Ones a banjo and ones a sailsbry, but i can never remember which is which cause those words dont relate to anything that makes sence to me.

dipstick chat: are you sure you dont need a super long one with a long tube extension so you can check oil without burning your face off?

Nope

125 has a bigger diff than a 124. The earlier 132s share the same diff head, not sure about the axle lengths. (I have a 132 diff in the 131 as the rear suspension is the same except 131 has a panhard rod as well) the later 132s have a borg warner (i think) diff with the cover and gears going in from the back.

____

yeah that might be an idea but I have a stubby one that fits under the supercharger somewhere.

Just read through the build thread in its entirity. What an epic build! I would have given up in frustration and pushed it off a cliff long before, so this car is a credit to your patience and determination (and pig-headedness? :-D )

Anyway keep up the great work, I'll be looking forward to more updates.

Croma turbo! Now we're talking. Are you going to rebuild the motor before throwing it in?

Just FYI - Italian autos had a complete 16v turbo motor from a coupe for $900. Not sure if they still have it but I thought that was a decent price.

The car itself is awesome. If roll one for sure! The interior is so sweet ( not this one though, this one had been wet for some time)

I spent most of yesterday trying to convince him to put it all in now.

Nearly there.
