Matteybean's 1966 Prince B200

Hey guys been browsing this forum for a while now but only just took a picture of my car so I can throw up a project thread.

Cars a matt black 1966 Prince B200 with a 3.3L engine and 3spd column change with overdrive. Goes well for what it is, gets the death sways at about 90+ mph though.

Was browsing trademe one day last year for something old a different and this popped up. Got the owner to send my heaps of pictures cause it was in taupo, caught the bus down that weekend and drove it back up. costed 2400 which i thought was a score for something with wof/reg/cert. bonus points as has a cb/pa system too.

since getting it home its proven itself to be rather unreliable with every outing usually leading to something interesting and most likely annoying happening. I had to fix fuel lines and fit new filters as the glass bowl ones were sucking a bit of air in and causing car to die when put under load, rebuild carb, the whole ignition side of it rather arse so redid all that and since last nights drive its developed a nice sticky accelerator which i may need to sort soon. rust wise it has nothing wrong with it as far as i can tell. the last guy did a crap job prepping before painting it so needs some loving.

Car has stock rear suspension with cut springs in front, about 80mm from sump to ground. may need to do something about that.

Plans are original hubcaps/hubcaps that look the part there and some whitewalls. will need to lower the rear at some point, rake looks cool though. Was going to repower with a holden 308 but those plans have fallen through.

More pictures to come.

Well the prince seems to be running perfectly as of lately as has not had a single break down in about 3 tanks of gas (which is a first)

Plans for tonight are to flip the leafs in the back and if that doesnt lower it enough will relocate the leaf spring mount to the underside of the diff. Heres a couple of extra pictures. Sorry for the poo-tastic quality as I only have a cellphone to take them.

Alright, so have not really done much to the car lately except picked up some stainless wheel trims and painted the steelies black and attached a few missing bits of chrome. Whole car has a chrome on black thing going on which I think looks pretty good. Fixed the gasket between the carb and the manifold as it was not sealing properly and giving a different idle every time i stopped. Breather hose on the gas tank decided to vannish, had a quick check under the bonnet and was nothing so figured the gas smell was from carrying a mower in the boot not long before. After a fumey drive to helensville I popped the boot to find a shit load of fuel. Was an easy fix though.

Had it all ready for the old school meet but a hang over got the better of me so never made it. Might have to head down to the next burgerfuel meet up as am moving to kingsland 1st of feb so it wont be such a cunty drive from south head.

Next plan is to pass this saturdays wof, flew through the last two so am hopeful.

Anyway heres a couple of pictures, nothing too special.

Success, she is all wof'd again. Flew through no worries. Only thing he said I might need to look at was a patch of bog that looks a bit poos. Just told me to rebog it or weld a patch in before it gets picked up during a wof.

Stink thing of the day was I went to the supermarket after wof to get some groceries and the inside drivers door handle snapped as I opened the door. Gutted. Lucky got wof first though.

Now to decide what to do next.. Feel free to give some suggestions in discussion thread. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36619-daves-prince-b200/

Its wof time again but have a few repairs I need to do main one is an exhaust leak from where the manifold attaches to the head and about 50 other pin holes all over the place.

Spent the last few days stripping the interior of the car and grinding it all back to steel. Surprisingly there was only very minor pitting with the exception being a small hole at the bottom of the accelerator pedal next to a drain bung. Should be a very easy fix if I can find someone with a welder. Have left that part of the floor bare for now.

I then gave the whole interior a going over with a rust treater then nailed everything with por15 so now it looks awesome and hopefully wont have to worry about rust anytime soon. Next step is to repaint the dash the original blue/grey colors and chuck it back in.

I have a few pictures I took while I was working on it but I left the phone to computer lead in class so will have to get that on monday.

Well the Prince failed its last wof on a few things so I pulled it off the road and its been chilling out in dry storage since. Its looking a little dusty but have big plans for it now, 2013 will be its year. Got all the ball joints removed ready to send away, just need to get back out to the warehouse to pull the gearbox out to do the clutch then probably start on some panel work. Time to get motivated. Feel free to comment on which way I should go about it, planning on big wide steels on the rear and probably going to keep the vauxhall engine in it cause its already there and im not rich enough for something better.

Looking a little sad but its in pretty good condition still, thankful for dry storage. Still got the mad rake going on since I never lowered the rear.

Been doing a bit of work on it lately.

Have the fuel tank out and am getting that cleaned out and fixed up on Monday.

Ball joints all removed, trying to track down a replacement for a cracked one. Will be rebuilding the others.

Gearbox off and clutch is out. Got to send that off to get one made up/replaced.

If I get time on monday after I do all that i'll head back out to the warehouse and remove the rear end so I can get the leaf spring mounts swapped over so the leaf is then under the axles. Should lower it about 2.5 inches. Will see if need to play with the leafs after that.

Didnt take many photos but heres a couple of random ones.

Heres a gearbox, still the original 3spd.

Slowly pulling it all out. First time doing it so just kind of winged it.

Chassis tag, must try track myself down a G7 engine before they are extinct :(

Small update,

Fuel tank is at Western Radiators, still waiting on a quote for that.

Took my clutch and flywheel into Autoclutch today, got a call back less than 2 hours later saying its all sorted and ready. Was almost going to be a rebuild job but he had something off the shelf which fitted together mint. Was only $370 so much less than I budgeted for it so got extra cash to burn! Original clutch was off a tractor apparently. Now have a nice sprung clutch and everything is nice and new. Should be alot nicer to drive.

Went round a couple of suspension shops trying to match up some ball joints with no luck so im getting in touch with HBI and going to send the two that are obviously fucked down to them for a rebuild. Turns out cracked one isnt cracked, Alignment specialists in Penrose showed me how they all work and go together and that bit that I thought was a 'crack' just turns out to be where its been reco'd previously and the metal they roll around at the back to hold the joint in is just split open. Makes my job a whole lot easier now since dont have to track down a new one.

Didnt manage to get the rear end out on Monday, was too hot so did a little work then just chilled out. Am back at class now so time is limited as im back to doing 6 day weeks, got to keep taking afternoons/mornings off to sort car parts. They dont seem to understand my priorities/

Also if you wish to discuss my build please do so here. Would love to hear what everyone thinks, maybe some advice? Thanks

Well after not doing anything for a long time I have finally began working on this again. It's still nicely tucked away but am bringing it home as have a garage.

Pulled the engine out today and put all the suspension back in ready for it to be trailered home this week. I attached gearbox back to motor but snapped one pressure plate bolt so am going to have to extract that before going any further with that.

I also have triple strombergs and manifold to put on to give it a bit more go.

Yay she's home!! Looking very filthy.

First things first get that broken bolt out of the flywheel, go myself a set of screw extractors so going to have a crack at that shortly and replace all the pressure plate bolts with new ones as the one that broke was under barely and strain at all. I have the gearbox all attached to engine so once this is done she can go back in. Want to give it a lick of paint as it looks pretty horey at the moment. The ex mrs has also scratched CUNT on the right front guard so might sand that shit back while I'm at it.

Any paint suggestions or leave it rough? Rocker covers are rusting and flaking pretty bad too.

Its all back together now, the girlfriend and I managed to put it in easy as, didnt take long at all. all brakes and clutch bleed. radiator filled and a fresh battery thrown in. Took a bit to get started but now she starts up mint first time everytime, just cold start idle seems to be a little iffy. Also had to put that gay pod filter on because misplaced the other filter and it runs a bit shitter with no filter. Other than that havent taken it for a drive yet but been up and down the drive a bit. Had trouble getting into second gear but that seems to be a linkage needing a little adjustment because if you pull a bit further back than where you want to go and then let it recenter you can select it but going straight from first to second its a bit of a maybe if its going to line up.

Anyway tidied up all the sills which only had a bit of light surface face with is pretty sweet now I just have to weld a few patches of rust then take it for a wof. Heres some pick.

Lovely air filter setup

Put the carbs in to see how they fit. Looks like need to redesign heater box and put battery somewhere else.

Got myself a fuel block and fittings and hooked it all up, set the carbs up and she works! Need to order a set of manifold gaskets, sort linkages and remove those taped on bottle caps and make a balance pipe. Also need to put that fuel block somewhere better but will wait till I move battery and see how it goes. Still need to sort shift linkages as you have to overshoot neutral and then return it before you can shift into second/third.

I also ordered some coby extractors which will hopefully be here early next week and in my excitement have ordered 3x 3" ram tubes which I found for only $110 landed brand new.

Here's a shitty pic. Another upside down one according to my phone

So this arrived

So I went and put it on

k3ptt5.jpg

And I have issues, fouls on starter motor and alternator and just touches bottom of carbs when on. Not ideal. I can easily get spaces to push the carbs forward a half inch or so and the will be mint and alternator thing that you adjust it on just has to be lengthened but I need help moving exhaust away from starter motor. I have a feeling a smaller starter motor will be a nightmare to find so does anyone have a welder near pakuranga that could bring it over and move some exhaust a little. Ill pay you pretty well, I just want to drive this fucken thing soon.

So I have some good news, I have found all my missing chrome trim so I am excited to have her looking back in top shape. Plus theres heaps of other spares im probably going to purchase as he has a fair few wrecked B200s.

I have also found an original engine so the issue is, do I keep trying to work the Vauxhall engine or buy this mighty 2L 6cylinder monster?

Feel free to talk me into it or out of it.

So shit has been slow as usual, the odd job being knocked out here or there. Last month or so have been hitting it hard though. Don't have many pictures so you will all have to take my word for it. As per previous posts the boot was fucked so got a much better boot and slapped that on, no rust holes just some surface poos so I'm happy with that.

My triple carbs idea turned to shit after I broke one carb and then the dog somehow pulled another off the bench and broke that. I brought a pretty good condition standard carb for this engine and threw it on. All new points, condenser, dizzy cap and plugs and all that along with the carb she purrs like a kitten.

I have an issue with my clutch bearing, I think that's the world. It's brand new but was sitting for a few years and when I put my clutch pedal to the floor it squeals. Not happy about that. I have a feeling the forks on the piss but haven't investigated further.

Also managed to find the elusive corner chrome bits, not photos with it on as yet as I need to make some more clips but I'm stoked with that.

The bro mattybean came over today and helped with door rust, we got one door sorted now really only 2 to go, drivers is pretty mint already. Was a bit of a fuck up as I didnt have the right tools so we ripped a couple doors off and went back to his. He managed to multi task cooking a barbie to keep the girlfriends happy and also cut out rust and make patches without burning the food. Win win all round.

My mrs wanted to sunbathe today but instead she went around and polished all the chrome on the car. Came out mint!!

Overall, today was a good day.

wl3lzl.jpg

The mad rake going on.

2m7szz6.jpg

Mattybeans corona and my prince chilling in the sun. Matt bonnet up as we swapping some ignition shit over try to solve a miss. I'm sitting on the step having a refreshment break. Can kinda see the mrs through the car polishing the rear chrome.

So it's been a long time since the last update but things have been happening.

We pulled the engine and gearbox again to fix that noises bearing. While it is out I painted the engine bay and the engine. All the pointless wiring has been removed and the rest is being tidied up.

21e9uzq.jpg

Have removed the guard and under sealed them all. Fixed rust also. This guard is off because still need to weld a patch in inner wheel arch.

2dm60xf.jpg

New shocks all round and tires.

28mcsiv.jpg

Repositioned my aerial so it's on an angle. Think it looks better than straight up. Can extend it out to about 5 feet also.

11rr95v.jpg

Engine all painted. Redoing the extractors as previous job was rather shitty. Easier fixing when engine of car

n204fm.jpg

Rebuilt clutch master, brake was rebuilt a little while back as well.

wl296v.jpg

A guard, fixed any issues with it and under sealed.

15hg5dy.jpg

Overall seems to be coming along ok.

2rxinx5.jpg

That's about it for now. Will hopefully have exhaust fixed all soon and engine back in.

Discuss here if you want
