so the exhaust is going to be a massive pain in the arse to make.

check the picture of the turbo (further up the page) and notice the angle that the exhaust exits the turbo.........

now have a look at pics of my engine bay.

the exit off the turbo is heading for my brake booster/reservoir. it is going to be very tight in there.

yup, Mr Philip Weston was right (is he ever wrong)

you could angle mount the turbo - the way I was going to do was kind of a mid-low mount with the header pipes coming up and then bending back down to the turbo inlet, like this

invidia_exhaust_manifold_ev.jpg

the compressor housing will need to be turned so its facing the up/the right way. (hopefully its as easy as pulling the massive circlip and rotating........)

also the wastegate actuator will need to be relocated..... as it mounts to the compressor housing at the moe.

pictureless update.

and total pain in the arse.

the turbo is sitting too close to the steering box (we are guessing that the turbo/manifold will hit the steering with the natural movement of the engine). so it looking like the easiest thing to do is to remake the manifold. from scatch. it only needs to move over by 10mm or so. but as far as i can see redoing the manifold is the only option.

to the car will need to get towed to Woolf so they can sort it.

so new bits from Cameron at Racepro (its going to be plumbed back).

Picture609.jpg?t=1291859992

and i sandblasted the crap red paint off. dont know if i want to polish or repaint the body of it.

Picture608.jpg?t=1291860544

hopefully the next update will be me saying the manifold is sorted.

not much of an update.

the car is back at Woolf and we are going to send it down to Tim at TTT Auto Engineering to massage the manifold and do the ECU install and a few of the other odd jobs.

looking forward to pushing my car down Dominion Rd to get to TTT, rather than paying for another tow truck.

I got the intake manifold off Sheepers Inc.

it just needed a lug welded to it for the throttle cable. there was a spare lug on the manifold, so that was cut off and welded back on. it even has the right thread for the bolt.

we pushed the car down Dominion Road.

Tim at TTT should be working on fixing up the exhaust manifold today.

intake manifold test fitted yesterday. and the thermostat housing is now at the back of the block.

Tim has done a fantastic job of re-routing and welding the water line.

the exhaust manifold has been chopped and re-welded, so there is more clearance by the steering box.

more stuff back from HPC.

the BOV had a bit of wear in the bore, so I got Nicoli at HPC to teflon coat the inside of the valve. he coated the outside of it aswell.

IMG00108-20110306-1448.jpg?t=1299535292

and ive got the guys at TTT to get a intercooler.

IMG00142-20110308-0849.jpg?t=1299535292

the oil cooler will have to be moved. hopefully it doesnt get moved to high as I dont want the oil draining down to the sump when the car is off. and the poor oil pump will have to fill the cooler on start up.

exhaust manifold, turbo, and dump pipe should be going back on today.

Link install later this week....

FFFFUUUUU

Saturdays work on the car.

the new trigger system didnt work. We couldnt get any reading out of it to the ECU.

So bin that and we are going to use a Link trigger wheel and attach it the the cam pulley.

its getting close.

So the Link trigger wheel has turned up.

it will be mounted to the cam pulley.

the cam pulley obviously needs to come off so the wheel can be doweled to the pulley. so it would be silly not to change the cam belt, balance shaft belt, cam seal, crank seal, tensioners, water pump.

cheers to Phillip Weston Mitsubishi Parts Department for the goods. (should be here this arvo or tomorow morning)
