Seedy Al
Multi pass? Edit yay a new page So work was quite today, and had arranged to have this car at work for the weekend so i could do oil pump swap and try figure out what the fuck was going on. Anyway as said, work was quite, so got it on the hoist, dropped steering bits and got the sump off and oil pump out. After alot of diagnosing between us, we compared the old pressure relief valve spring to the new one. new one was deff longer and had more tension. Concluded that this was most likely the issue and that the relief spring had lost tension over time. Magic So the sump is back on now with a new gasket, just letting that seal up over the evening and will be back here tomorrow morning with new oil and see what the deal is. tho, was thinking while its on the hoist, it might be a bit rude NOT to remove a quarter of a coil off the front springs. So that might happen haha. I'm a little bit gutted my sedan isn't ready to drive yet, as Tomorrow would have been the perfect day for building the exhaust. oh Well
Popular Post Seedy Al
For those that have glanced over my build thread but not my discussion thread, replacing the oil pump didn't solve my issue. So motor is going to need to be stripped down. So 6th time lucky for now. Although its actually the 4th motor going back in.... so fuck knows what that makes it. But yeah, can't justify having a dead car around, but also am 100 percent over this, so yeah swapping motor till I can be fucked pulling other turd motor apart Nats or bust or some shit.

Seedy Al
So yeah, picture less update for max who cares. I left the work shop at 8.30pm on Friday, old motor sitting back in the hole, bolted in with no manifolds. Finished up about 2 the next day after just general fluffing around. So then took it for a decent test drive. To my surprise this motor doesn't have ba blown head gasket lol. As said in my discussion thread, this motor had only been driven about 60km last time it was in. So yeah test drive good, what a surprise it also has oil pressure lol. And uses all the gas. And is actually slow up hills. But you get that with a 2litre designed in world War one. And Mourning Cupcake took it for a drive to go see steelies today so she could learn the ins and outs of driving it, as she will be driving it solo to nats as I will be taking the c20. She did good job. So yeah, just wanna swap the bench seat over. Might struggle that tomorrow after work.
Popular Post Seedy Al
Cooley. Swapped seat over after work. Was a tad gay on my own. But done. Feels heaps better driving around, not so big and gay. Plus niki got me a sweeet brown Mexican blanket for my birthday, so that will make its way in there, once some mods are made for seat belts. So yea. It is now, nats ready. Next on the list, getting the van ready for camping duties, which pretty much just means, clear out crap not needed for the weekend lol. Fantastic.

Popular Post Seedy Al
Right, so with my Crown sedan waiting on its cert plate to turn up, I figured best not let the momentum die off now. So tripped over the 5m out of this at work today and thought fuck it, lets get that apart so I can get this wagon actually driving good instead of the under powered over fueling turd it is now. So this happened. So far I am pretty certain the issue is what I have always suspected, the bearings for the auxiliary shaft. Had a look at them and feel terrible. But can also move tge shaft latterly in the bearings. So most likely worn and letting the oil escape. These are feed after the crank, so probably a good thing. But will have a proper measure tomorrow to confirm. Then its a matter of tracking down new ones. Research suggests they are the same as a 7mge etc.
Popular Post Seedy Al
Oh hey, an update, of pretty much the same old boring rinse and repeat sort of shit. Axuillery shaft bearings turned up and were correct. Deff feels alot nicer in there. Then all my work mates were on my case telling me its stripped down this much, why not pull the crank out and do a complete check over. So that was my Saturday. After a bunch of measuring found that number 1 main bearing was measuring up a bit odd diganoly across the oil holes and had a tad bit of extra clearance. So we worked some magic and got that sorted so it's within spec. So, hopefully, the combination of the main bearing and the Axuillery shaft bearing clearances now being a bit better will cure this oil pressure problem. Motor is now all buttoned back up, and with a bit of luck I will be swapping it over again this weekend, just depends on how packed with cars we are come Friday. Other option is I do at lock up, which will take 3 times as long most likely. Anyway. Exciting I know! Heres a picture of what looks like all the others of this motor lol. In other news I have been driving this with the 2l all this week. Has been nice using it, especially since the heater started actually making heat haha. But my god its slow with that engine.

Popular Post Seedy Al
Suck mother fucken cess. Have enough oil pressure now at hot idle that it should maintain enough pressure to keep things lubed. Not over whelming amounts but enough. Also forgot how fucken so much better this wagon is with the 2.8 in to. Can actually pull out at round abouts with out the fear of being t boned and can pull speed up hills. Much love. So happy. On to the next car mission I think.
Seedy Al
Finally got round to fitting the peep mirror I bought at magoos during nats. Looks good but is currently set up in a way rendering it useless lol. However will address at a later date, as seeing getting this thing sorted to the point I am happy enough with it has taken over a year. Next thing on my list is get the datsun van legal so I can sell it. As I still own 7 cars. Its to many.

Popular Post Seedy Al
Average update a couple weeks ago after filling up this thing started running super average, couldnt keep cruising revs as it would bog out, but would idle fine etc and fucked around and problem went away, until I lent it to @Beaver while I did some work on his van brakes He pretty much left our house and instantly had issues with it, however he managed to get it home and I got back a few days later. Anyway long story short I had always been pretty suspect of the carb. had been on @Bluebear01 about a rebuilt carb he had on a crown he is going to 1uz, So after a few short messages carb was on its way. Wacked it on and everything is back to normal Ready for Summer wagoneering and camping
Popular Post Seedy Al
Woah, so I still own this thing. As from above post, replacement carb fixed a bunch of issues, however its never been perfect/ But, did a lovely amount of Wagoneering in this over Summer. been slowly improving the setup, buying gear etc. Its been a bit of an adjustment to go from having a van back into a wagon. So really, I should probably get my VW sorted for the smaller excursions around Wellington. Anyway that aside, List of places its been since last update: Taranaki for New Years, Hunterville For Wag nats Chirstchurch for OS Nats Hanmer For Hanmer Also had it at parmy swap meet trying to sell some stuff, met a bunch of toyota crown piners in the process lol. But yeah, has been running like a champ but all the traveling was taking its toll and a few things needed addressing, So I spent a few weeks before Hanmer trip taking care of stuff, fixed a few coolant leaks, machined the front brakes ans fit new pads, this time with the anti rattle clips I got from @Bluebear01. Those made a world of difference actually. New wheel bearings and swapped out the tires as 3 out of 4 had massive bulges and drove very very oddly at slow speeds lol. However, Hanmer trip is developed a coolant leak from the steel pipe that runs from the back of the water pump to the heaters etc. A mild attampt at fixing with some steel epoxy but it did not last. I had a chuck a bottle of "1 shot" in it. I hope the heater is still good because I hate that stuff so much. Anyway we will see. Hopefully I have one of those pipes in stock. Might also be a good time to replace my exhaust manifold as it has a few cracks I have welded but the leaks have returned, Ok. No more rambling.
