AllTorque
Plus, you can't corrupt your fine GM product with a Ford fan. Lucky you got one out of a Volvo and not a Taurus.

KKtrips
Plus, you can't corrupt your fine GM product with a Ford fan. Lucky you got one out of a Volvo and not a Taurus. Volvo has the same stud pattern as 4 cylinder Commodores so they are pretty much the same family. /identical...

yetchh
Â Â I paid $25 for it including relays, fusable links, wiring, plugs and shroud. All I need to do is mount it - then hook up the positive and negative feeds to the battery. Plus the low and high (or just the high to start with) speed signal wires which is only an earth signal to a thermo switch or toggle if I can't find an appropriate thermo switch in time. Â Â noice.. not to surprised if they shit themselves tbh.. they're the same fan as the ea/eb falcon which, besides a mitzy, was the car I saw most on the side of the road in melbs.. Â what sort of amperage does it pull?
KKtrips
Not sure but I guess about 30amp because it's grunty wiring and big fusible links.
yetchh
Are you upgrading your alternator?
KKtrips
Nah - It's got a 60amp already. It's a 80's pov spec wagon so no huge electrical draw to speak of other than the fan. Â /I'll see what happens once I install it.
CaMpylobacter
realistically it's not going to run *that* much with the driving you do in this thing, surely?
KKtrips
realistically it's not going to run *that* much with the driving you do in this thing, surely?  Exactly. I am highly doubtful that my driving habits are going to sit me sitting in traffic jams with headlights on and wipers going full tit and the rad fan staying on for extended lengths of time. I've got a fucking good battery in it and it's manual so I can still crash start it... LOL.
CaMpylobacter
It'll be sweet  60amps should be more than enough. I roll twin fans, efi, and can have headlamps, wipers, demisters and dre on the stereo in my peugeot sitting in rush hour on the auckland motorway and it's fine.
yetchh
just saying.. v8's need a lot of cooling, keeping the temps down in those big lumps of iron is a big task, they ain't no peugeot.. Â Â edit* but you're right you'll be good with 60 amps, just , low elec spec and all that haha
CaMpylobacter
guess so. I've added an extra fan and all that. I suppose feeates really are just a big heat pump, wasting all that energy as heat and all        also, any new wagcessorys that can be shared, christopher michael jackson smith?
yetchh
It's more the on off  frequency I was thinking about, a 30amp fan should generally double that on initial draw..
Spencer
Ew yuck! so with oily plugs you are thinking its rings I guess? boo-urns.
KKtrips
I'm hoping it's a dry BHG between 6 and 8 and that an oil gallery is somewhere in there that is also caught up in the BHG mess. Suspecting that pretty decent overheat going up Te-Mata peak at Hawkes Boes is probably the culprit. But it may be rings. In a bit of a quandry if I pull the heads and replace HG x 2 and it's still no better which will be a waste of time and money if it is the rings anyway. Guess a cylinder leakdown test will be the next move.
Spencer
Yea a HG is the best outcome, shit I wouldn't even touch the other bank if going down that road. How cheap can you get a head gasket? $10 like a cheby? Yea man do a ghetto leak down test, or just pull the head anyway as its coming out either way. I mean you'll pop the head and see a fault or you wont. Â Still at the shed? you can have it off in about 4-5 beers.
KKtrips
Nah I've gone home in disgust and tossing up whether to get drunk. But I have to get up at 4am to drop someone to the airport.
