They are to stiffen the floor so it doesn't oilcan when you put ~80 odd kilo in there. the sills in mx5s are fucking huge so I wouldn't get too worried about them. As long as the floor isn't actually cracked then you will be sweet. I got my last wof with rails that were way worse than yours and he was a fucken picky cunt/ he failed me on just about everything else.
