Unless you want to be Straya Steve and hold it on the limiter when you tip it in to the skid pad, an 8.8" will be more than enough. Your Prem won't really notice the missing 0.2 inches until you've put it in her puhuhuhuhu. Instead of dropping heaps on a crate big block, buy a cheap smog era 4-bolt Main 454 and build it up in a more aggressive manner. Rebuild parts are cheap.
