While you have the box out of the car, it would be worth separating it from the engine and checking the state of the clutch fork. They are known to both seize and crack around the welds, and a real prick to find this out once you've fitted it.

I have been thinking this also as its engine out to replace the clutch and trivia to have a look right now. Good to have a heads up about the fork too, cheers.

I have been talking to the chap (Silas) in Aus who is doing the same conversion, I posted a pic of his in the thread.

He clearly knows a lot more than me about swifts etc and has been answering a lot of my questions, ie the blanked off speedo drive can be sourced from a Liana but I would need the diff center as the swift one does not have the sensor teeth.

So I will need to source my speed reading from somewhere else...

I could mount a trigger wheel on one of the axles I suppose but I would probably need one on each and average out the signals to get it more accurate.

Silas suggested a gps speedo signal...

Any suggestions?

If you use the link for speed pickup be careful with maximum input frequency.  For instance an abs sensor with ~ 50 Teeth would probably be too high.   The signal divider things are cheap as from jaycar which is one way to solve the problem. 

Something like 8 or 10 pulses on the axle should be ok, you could for instance just glue 8 small strips of metal to an inner cv at equal spacing and mount your hall effect sensor. I would think single axle input should be close enough. 

I run 4 pulses on my Mazda driveshaft, (3.5 diff ratio)which is under 500hz input frequency in most cases. Some links can handle more like 2000hz on certain high speed digital inputs so might pay to check.
