Plus mine is lower and now has wheels that fill the arches. It does have a freshly rebuilt engine still running in, but there are a number of small issues. The heater doesnt work, the shocks are toast, and I'm pretty sure the lower engine mount is in worse condition than mine. It turns out those are nearly impossible to find, but a Canadian chap has a stash of NOS ones, so I might buy a couple. But it has a proper interior so is significantly more civilised than mine. Oh and he know a chap in Nelson that has a 100% mint one, we will have to visit .. Quote
thegreatestben Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I really thought you had it that time. Fucking roller coaster of emotions this rattle. Can you take it somewhere with a suspension checker that shakes the shit of out the car for while you’re in it or under it? Quote

I can make it happen revving up in the garage, but its pretty rowdy and even tho my neighbors are a wee bit away there is no doubt they can hear it. I just cannot believe the number of times I have stupidly gone 'fuck yea, that has to be it' and then it fucking isn't.. like every single time. I might write a script. 3 1 Quote
h4nd Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I'm scratching my head, thinking of different diagnosis techniques. Got some big strong magnets you can smoosh on various bits, to prove they're not it? I'm unclear if this would reach thru panel steel to stabilise a cable etc. Or maybe a bass mass driver (movie seat thumper) running from an oscillator (phone) to get a vibration source when stationery, so you can scramble around under it with less risk to life, limb, marriage. shrike Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Are you sure you haven't lost a socket/tool/bolt/nut somewhere? Super frustrating having a noise you can't pin down I've had one or two cars in the past that I've just turned the stereo up and ignored unknown noises that I've confirmed aren't mechanical issues Was watching a guy put an Audi S6 back together on YouTube recently that had been misdiagnosed as being camchain tensioner issue when it was actually a waterpump bearing that had failed 1 Quote

TBH if it had carpets it would probably damp whatever it is down, so that is a near future plan anyway. I found a source of OEM lower engine mounts and bought a couple, so when that arrives it might make things better... Quote

When ours was up for sale I was told to look at the underside of the boot lid where there should be a sticker with the OE paint code. Sure enough it said Nero - which is black. This finished up looking quite good. 4 Quote
