hi, i have a mk1 escort and i need to put the windscreen and back window back in, what is the best way to do it? i would like to do it myself as it seems very expensive to get the pros to do it. cheers

in my experience get the pros to do it, i wouldn't recommend Novus as they are "all care no responsibility" so if they break it your fucked.

Spencer had someone come and do it for him and they seem to be cheap, quick and easy, so ask him.

I've always used Novus, and have been impressed with the cost, workmanship, and their ability to get a job done at short notice.

Won't ever use Smith and Smith again, due to them absolutely mauling the Alfa when they did a screen in that - but then again it's always gonna be a case by case scenario depending on which branches you use.

+1

But probably depends on the branch. Had a rugged as freelance guy in a ratty Nissan Urvan do one and he was probably the best.

or you can get 2 poeple and some rope.

1 put the rubber on the screen

2 feed some thin rope aound the window (in the grove that will seal it to the body) and just make sure both end of the rope hang out in the bottom of the screen in the middle.

3place the screen onto the car and makesure both ends of the rope are inside the car.

4 get your mate to push down on the screen from the outside and from the top

5keep the pressure on and pull 1 side of the rope as your mate keeps pressur on it

6keep pressing as your pulling the rope and the rubber will lift and slot into place.

just do that all the way around the screen till the top and pull with the other but of rope till they meet at the top and pull them out.

and your screen will be in.

or you could pay someone to do it but ive always done mine this way.

hope that helps..

All those above steps are what the dudes at novus did to mine...the apprentice was pushing on the corner and i said... "are you meant to be pushing on it like that" and then it snapped........................

aslong as your only pushing on the rubber then it will be sweet.

ive even banged the rubber as it goes round with my hand and i havnt had 1 snap yet.

it is easy to do once you get started

^ Concur with everything everyone has said above - but if you are doing it yourself with the string then also add some sealant afterwards otherwise it will leak.

I take my screen in and out often - I just push it out with my feet and put it back in with the string method - but I don't bother with sealant as everything else leaks anyway.

Didnt no this was an issue took out both front and rear windscreen, seems like putting back in yourself/with help would be easy/cheap

What type of sealent would i use to seal it?

Does old sealant need to be completely removed
