OSC
putting my 4agte into my wagon i realized sump needed cutting so ive cut it back as close to the oil pick up as i could but with the engine sitting flat in the car the back of the block is about 5cm away from the firewall and i dont know if i need to move the oil pickup or what? i know others have put 4ages into eskis on here so if someone could give me some advice on what they have done it would be great. Gaz
Dont really get what your asking... If you mean move the dipstick.. if you can get to it why move it?
OSC
no the oil pick up in the sump. to modify the sump any further the dipstick needs to be moved
Spencer
not an expert on this but the mk1 escort we had the sump was chopped and flipped so the bowl was at the rear. With the pickup turned around and extended worked mint
OSC
so confused whether to leave it as it is or to move it back further and cut the sump more and shorten pick up or to flip the sump and extend the pick up. Pros and cons people ???? not fussed if i have to wing the sump
Spencer
the flipped sump worked fine got the engine in a nice place and aslong as your confident with your welding it should be mint
Gaz
The 4age escort I had was a standard sump slightly shunted with wings put on. Worked well.
mikuni
Yeah I've seen afew done with the crossmember in that spot and they just kind of notch out the sump a little so it can sit nice and low and add wings (and possibly baffles inside?) to increase the capacity. Toucan
Steering rack is more likely to be the problem as it sits on top of the cross member in escorts. I'd say it would be easiest to cut the sump and flip to a rear bowl, that way you have more room/clearance to play with.
Guest WESTCORT
what you can do is grind out the spot welded lip on the cross member to give an extra 10mm or so in there and put a weld across it. the bit im talkin bout is _[|||]_ ^ just there if you imagine that to be a cross section of the cross member. tis what i did with my eski so i didnt need to move pick up whilst still having lots of room for the engine to move about, even though it doesnt move anymore with my new mounts.
