sheepers
Drive line vibration. I'm trying to find out where my vibration is coming from. Driveshaft is just back from balancing so it aint that. Question, the output flanges on my diff (R200 GTR) move all over the show and I've seen other people have similar movement with no issues. But I don't like it. Anyone have experience with this and also, how best to fix it?
cletus
First thing would be figure out if its driveshaft speed or wheel speed, that will narrow it down Ie at 92.7 kph is it going wubwubwubwubwubwubwub Or RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
sheepers
good point. i reckon its driveshaft speed. so that needs some thinking about...........
cletus
If you've just had it balanced and its spot on, and the joints are phased correctly I'd look at u joint angles Is it single or 2 piece ?
sheepers
see that's the thing. its a two piece. in exactly the same place its been for 10 years, same gearbox crossmember, same engine mount height. same everything. even the same driveshaft. and its never had a problem before. fucking weird. i will however look at angles and see what i can see. cletus
When did it start doing it? That is slightly puzzling
sheepers
yea, no shit. its been since i put the supercharger motor in. but, i also replaced the driveshaft center bearing and fucked up putting the driveshaft back together so its been wrong since new motor. now that's fixed its really not any better. a camera like yours under the car may reveal something. what do you use? the magnetic mount must be pretty full on? Popular Post sheepers
Turned out the vibration was tyres. I took the fronts off and chucked them on the balancer to check the balance and straight away you could see they both had big lumps in them. Weird. Because all 4 tyres did it at pretty much the same time. Fuck knows. Anyway it's fixed and here's a picture of a tyre so you've got a picture to look at. 19
Popular Post sheepers
remember a thousand years ago when i bought a link dash for this? well, the instructions for a link dash are fucking shit, if you ever buy one know that the indicator icons are referred to as "warning lights" and the indicator icons that are described in the instruction manual, badly, are just icons that don't work on every display skin. anywho whilst trying to figure this out i powered the wrong pin on the plug and something went bang. it took them two and a half months to fix it but its fixed now so i got on with the job of installing it. its now mounted up and working so now i need to configure the thousands of user definable display options and also get a few parameters that currently dont work, working. 2021-04-04_04-14-47 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-04-04_05-18-02 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
ive had this Boston 12.5LF sitting around for a while so i decided to make a sub box for it. i had to make it a weird shape so i could get it right at the back and still close the tailgate. 18mm MDF with bitumous tape (basically the same as sound deadner) over the joints on the inside. ill cover it in either carpet or maybe some stretchy vinyl then its done. i need to make some sort of way of holding it down in the right place but also i need to be able to move it out of the way if im putting something large in the back. ill think of something. 2021-04-11_03-23-51 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-04-11_03-23-44 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-04-11_03-23-36 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-04-11_03-23-29 by sheepers, on Flickr

Popular Post sheepers
tonight i made a shield to go over the digital dash so it doesn't reflect off the inside of the window at night. fairly simple thing, just held on with double sided foam tape. ill see tomorrow how well it functions. 2021-05-24_06-54-34 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-05-24_06-54-28 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-05-24_06-54-18 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-05-24_06-53-58 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-05-24_06-53-44 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
So 2 and a half years later. Where the fuck did that go? Its been driven and moved from place to place while I built things at the old house and now we're in new house. Got a warrant for it the other day. The guy said the rear lower control arm bushes looked borderline, so I wasn't going to leave it like that and I got some new ones. Thing is these bushes have always worn out faster than any of the other ones, they've always been a mega cunt to install and they always looked like they were the wrong ones. Today, 13 odd years after I built this thing, I figured out why. I had left the steel sleeves from the factory rubber bushes in the arms. No Fucking WONDER!! funny how you can do shit wrong on multiple occasions and not even see it. I made a tool to push out the old sleeves and low and behold the new bushes fit a zillion times better, almost like they were made for it. I am still 1000% going to fully rebuild this car, every nut and bolt, but I need to build a workshop first so once again this car has to wait.
Popular Post sheepers
Was driving home from work yesterday and I came slowly coating to a stop at a red light. As I was sitting there the car stalled as the light went green and I went to take off. Weird, cranking resulted in what was obviously something wrong, it was cranking with a weird rhythm and wouldn't start. So me and the wife towed it the 4ks home and I started trying to figure it out. End result is that somehow the cam belt jumped a couple of teeth. Like how the fuck did it do that? Seriously it was idling, nothing looks wrong but the tensioner does feel a little weird when I compress it and release it. Is not like any of these parts are old. Fucked if I know, anywho I might as well put a new belt and tensioner in it. I don't actually know if this engine is an interference motor or not, obvs stock jen one UZ aren't but this has kelford SC cams in it and I can't remember if they make it interference or not. I didn't hear anything at the time but the radio was on and from past experience when the pistons just kiss the valves they don't actually make a lot of noise. I'll get new parts, put it back together and do a compression test I suppose. 10 1
Popular Post sheepers
New toyota can belt, tensioner and tensioner bolts and it's back together and running. Still have no idea why it skipped the cam belt but it did. 28
