Popular Post sheepers
made the modifications to the cam cover to give it more room around the clutch/brake master. 2020-03-03_06-05-42 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-03_06-05-49 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-03_06-05-57 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-03_06-06-14 by sheepers, on Flickr i changed my mind on the cut out a bit and made one a bit bigger to make more room for the booster. here is it all finished ready for a coat of paint. 2020-03-03_06-06-22 by sheepers, on Flickr then i made a 125mm to 100mm cone for the intake piping. 2020-03-03_06-06-29 by sheepers, on Flickr and lastly its time to change engine mounts from the pin and pin ones which are a cunt to get the motor in or out, to the ubiquitous LN106 ones. 2020-03-03_06-06-36 by sheepers, on Flickr ill need to make a new bast plate to weld to the crossmember but thats easy. if anyone has the steel caps that fit over these mounts, the ones that stop the engine from fucking off if the mount tears, please hit me up because i need a pair.
Popular Post sheepers
today, with the help of my patented "engine mount compareomatic" i made some new plates for the LN106 mounts. 2020-03-04_02-27-02 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-04_02-27-09 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-04_02-27-17 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-04_02-27-24 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-04_02-27-33 by sheepers, on Flickr

Popular Post sheepers
and back in the hole. ive only run it for about 10 minutes but it seems much better than before. ill get a better idea tomorrow. 2020-03-10_06-16-02 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
i decided i needed to get the cold air intake sorted because intake temps at the moment are a bit shit. so i bought a generic pod filter with a view to it being replaced every 6 months or so depending on how much i use the car. i got a K&N one because they are fairly standard and easy to get others. the plan is to run the filter outside the engine compartment in front of the front wheel. i had a setup like this in the blue car for quite a while and it seemed to work fine, i trialed it with rain and heaps of water and never had any drama. there will be a rain shield between the tyre and the filter which ill probably tackle tomorrow so i started making a pipe. 2020-03-11_06-56-28 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-11_06-56-35 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-11_06-56-19 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-11_06-55-54 by sheepers, on Flickr then i needed a pipe for the cam cover vent to go into the intake. i didnt have any alloy pipe in the right size so i decided to make some. i also cut the inlet temp sensor mount out of the old intake pipe and welded that in. 2020-03-11_06-56-11 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-11_06-56-00 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-11_06-55-47 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-03-11_06-55-40 by sheepers, on Flickr

Popular Post sheepers
i might be making some progress with this. ive been vacuum bleeding the coolant system and then heat cycling it for about 4 days now and its taking a bit more water each time. the temp climbs a lot slower now and it almost can maintain temp. it still climbs with it sitting idling and the fan going but its a bunch slower. i will drive it around as much as i can as see how it goes. im also chasing a random intermittent coolant leak that comes and goes at the weirdest times. it coming from the bottom heater hose but it leaks weirdly, like when the system is at full pressure after its been running and its hot it doesn't leak, then it will drop some water over night when its cold. but not every night, its a bit unusual but ill keep fucking with it. 24 1
sheepers
yea na. rigged up a port on the back water bridge to vacuum bleed the coolant circuit from there. its still fucked. im out of ideas and im fucking over it. 2
sheepers
checked cam timing. valves are opening about 12 degrees retarded but closing about right so the cam center line is 6 degrees retarded. i cant see this causing to much drama. 1 tooth on the cam wheels is about 16 degrees so moving it by one tooth wouldn't make it any better. 2020-04-23_04-21-31 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-04-23_04-21-22 by sheepers, on Flickr 3
Popular Post sheepers
i left this thing sitting in the corner whilst i painted the engine bay on the crown. now thats done i dredged up some enthusiasm from somewhere and got back into this thing. couple of weeks ago i drew up a fan shroud and got it cut and folded. yesterday i got it to fit (had to massage a scallop into it to to clear the radiator hose) and put it all back together. today i drove 450Ks in it up and down the morotways of acukland. was a beautiful day with clear free running tarmac the whole day. quite enjoyed it tbh. temps were fine but i never got into any type of traffic really to test it, i was just sitting on the hundy for hours at a time. when i got home i sat at the lights and it seemed to be coping but ill do more traffic based testing over the next few days. its worth noting that the ambient temps are at least 10 degrees lower than they were last time i drove it so youd think it would be better. anyway after today the engine seems happier to rev and feels a bit more free. ill put another 500 odd Ks on it and see what happens next. also took it through a carwash in bombay (water restrictions in auckland have shut down all car washing both private and public) because it was fucking filthy as you can see. 2020-05-20_05-20-08 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-05-20_05-20-00 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-05-21_03-43-38 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
drove another 200Ks in it today, encountered some traffic and it handeled it better but its still not able to drop temp if its sitting stationary for too long. ill do more Ks.
Popular Post sheepers
done about a thousand Ks in It now and its heaps better. its still not fixed, i think crawling stop start traffic would be the death of it but its getting better all the time so ill just drive it more. it really wants to go, the motor feels heaps better now that its running a bit more freely. the tune is basically non existent for anything above very light throttle so its not exactly ground breaking as yet but next weekend i should be able to get the tune a bit better. also i have found a thermostat that opens at 76deg. stock is 82. i did some side by side testing and what was interesting was that these didnt actually open at the stated temperature, they opened about 5 degrees hotter than stated. its when you let the water cool and the temp comes down that the thermostat seems to close at about the design temp. differences between the two, the 76deg has a much larger aperture at full open than the stock one. i haven't installed the 76deg thermostat yet, ill do more Ks in the car first and see how things settle. its good to know that i have this up my sleeve though, it may be that in summer when the AC is cranking and im sitting in traffic i need to run the colder thermostat. i guess ill find out. 2020-05-31_04-44-11 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-05-31_04-44-32 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-05-31_04-44-40 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
did another 300Ks in it today, got in a mild traffic situation/has to slow down a bit on the motorway and it was fine but TBH it was not stopped traffic. i do feel like its getting better though. weird looking picture of car contains bonus steam trains. 2020-06-01_03-30-37 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
well then, many happenings have been happening. firstly my good Mate Adam strapped it down to his dyno and he had a go at tuning it. the fuel pump died and it was making 15PSI which is way to much for a poor little M122. so i pulled the fuel pump out and replaced it with a walbro GSS341 and i made a bigger pulley for the supercharger. while i was at it i put the colder thermostat in it. put it all back together and this morning i went back to Adam's dyno for another go. everything was working so we set about basic setup, this is where i discovered that id set the timing wrong and it was retarded by 15 degrees. dont know how id fucked that up but i had. explains a lot.............. so anywho with the timing right things progressed well and the thing made power without getting hot so thats solved. pics/video can tell the rest of the story. EDIT - flickr is being a dick and wont upload any pictures. it made 250RWKW and the torque is literaly a straight line at 280 foot pounds. but youtube is working so heres the vid, 45

Popular Post sheepers
tidying a few things up with the tune. i had no speed signal so the ECU didn't know if we were moving or not. with an E throttle that makes quite the difference. so i put a wheel speed sensor in the back so now it knows we are moving. the other major thing that needed sorting was the rev limit, it was set too low (6500) and it was pretty harsh. so now th rev limit is a more excellent 7500 with a really nice cut that just works. lots of little things were made better in regards to coasting to a stop, the fan coming on, part throttle curse, just more drivability. the other thing that we did was add a bit of timing up top which coupled with the higher rev limit it made 275 killer wasps at the tyres. keen for drag day TBH. 24

Popular Post sheepers
a while back i bought a Link dash so i can keep an eye on more parameters and temps etc. today i finally got around to making it fit in the dash. i made this aluminium plate which will get a hole cut into it for the digital dash to rebate into. 2021-01-10_04-14-23 by sheepers, on Flickr 2021-01-10_04-14-15 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
the dash is coming along but i thought i should see if it works before i get to much further down the track. temp wired it and it works. now i have to learn a bunch about customising which data gets sent to the dash and also how to drive the dash customisation software. 2021-01-14_08-13-50 by sheepers, on Flickr
