I don't think those cotton filters are up to much. Personally I wouldn't buy life-critical safety equipment for $5 on Ali Express.
Ghostchips
But it's $60.
Bling
Can get full face for $130 on trademe, seems legit 3M to me. Still less than half local shops. https://www.trademe.co.nz/building-renovation/building-supplies/safety-gear/protective-gear/listing-2037131011.htm?rsqid=a2343708ea0e47918343e9d859381ddd-001 Pretty sure someone linked them before in here, but I can't be bothered looking back. Knowing Ali, it's likely the same shit, without the label. But at least with 3M legit, you know it will have had to meet certain requirements. Pinkies are for dust, the plain white go over the top of the organic vapour filters. Above dude was super helpful too, in determining what combo to go for based on jobs at hand. I roll half mask with welding filter now (which I got off them too). Full mask is for painting soon, though no spraying, want eye protection so went full face.

peteretep
I have some surface rust under the front gaurds on my escort, I have removed the underseal where it is not super adhered to the steel any more as where it is still stuck the metal is good underneath it. I have put some crc rust converter on the areas but want to either brush on 2 pot or brush on underseal on the area. The area is probably 70% old underseal still in reasonable nick (and really hard to remove, and why would I remove good underseal), and the other 30% is where the rusty bits were. What do you guys reckon I should do? 2 pot paint the various areas? paint everything including the old underseal? underseal the bare bits?
Bling
If the underseal is solid as fuck, i'd probably 2 pot the lot, then underseal it all. Would want to be sure moisture can't get in from behind mind you. Don't want it rusting from the inside out.
Bling
What do people paint into the backside of panels to protect from rust? On roof for example on underside where door frames meet roof. Bottoms of doors on inside etc Clean then epoxy primer going to be a good solution? I'm brushing everything, so anywhere I can't physically brush i'll likely zinc spray. But where I can brush, i'm thinking epoxy will offer better protection. But not sure if other products are better suited for that job. Spencer
Epoxy primer the whole world, then some kind of cavity wax stz for all the cunty bits and internals.

Cavity wax seems to do a really good job, provided water can't get in from the other side of the joint. If you can't get paint into an area, the cavity wax should be able to wick it's way in and make a good seal. For Starlets, they generally don't have any rust in seams were cavity wax was applied properly. 1
Bling
Sweet sounds like a plan, epoxy and i'll look into cavity wax options. Cheers.
S124AB
5 hours ago, Bling said: Sweet sounds like a plan, epoxy and i'll look into cavity wax options. Cheers. For older cars, a cavity wax like Novol (will need an applicator gun), or Teroson in a spray can, as they are a bit more 'runny' than Wurth or Car System. This is better for older cars as there is more seepage into the seams, panel folds etc. A little secret is to warm up the spray cans first, hot water in a bucket, and put cans in there for 10 min or so. This makes the wax flow better. It will take hours, and possibly days to dry properly, as the solvent needs to evaporate. You could then reapply a thicker wax like Wurth to add extra thickness. Best applied when it's hot and dry, so no moisture present where you want the wax to go. Most of them are brown in colour, but Wurth is a cream colour. Cleans up with turps, wax and grease remover etc. https://smitsgroup.co.nz/product/82310/teroson-wx215-cavity-wax-spray-aerosol-500ml http://www.raj.co.nz/product-group/503-ks250-cavity-wax-areo/category/69-bonding-sealing https://eshop.wurth.co.nz/Cavity-wax-CAVWAX-TRANSPARENT-500ML/0892082500.sku/en/GB/NZD/?VisibleSearchTerm=cavity&CampaignName=SR001
Bling
Great info, will check those products when on pc thanks. Was actually looking at the Teroson wax earlier as I have a local spray store that sells it.
dmulally
Hey, does anybody know what the legalities are in driving around a vehicle in bare metal/only a clear coat?
flyingbrick
Being that badass should be illegal.
tortron
You have to register its colour as silver if you can be bothered, and the data entry girl can be bothered
Bling
Seems legit if it doesn't reflect the sun into other drivers' eyes etc.
tortron
You can have a chrome car if you want. It's not an issue
dmulally
It is for my C20. I cant decide on a colour and it has far too many rattle can touch ups for my liking. You know the ones where they thought nobody would notice but just looks crap.
Ghostchips
Many cars are bare metal. They don't always stay that way & have to be rego'd as brown within a year.
