Right, i spent all this money (read: 7k)on the pinto only to gain approx 30hp from standard. So im pretty fucked off and fed up and was going to give up altogether with it. But now ive changed my mind and I want more power, and I want in the way of a turbo. So being a n00b to this stuff heres the current engine mods:

2.25â€

Similar to what I did exept not quite 7g. Then I decided to go pinto turbo so brought all the stuff. Then I decided fuck that and co Ca18det. then decided nah if modding engine mounts go sr20det.

So short coming of that is goto a new injected turbo engine now before deciding against 2lpinto turbs later after having spend doe.

Keep the wl pinto for an escort or similar you may sometime own. Or if you have recipts then should be able to sell for close to what you paid.

Yea I have thought about the whole conversion thing, but yea hmm, decision decsions...Im only estimating about that much because the civic I raced was not a b16a, but rather a dohc 1600 fuel injected piece, which i looked up are 129hp, and it took me, so that where im getting that from

Conversion = big money, but more power I guess, however RT has pulled off a damn nice pinto turbo, least he can do a lot of it himself :(

Thanks for that info Mikuni, helps alot, I just paid aall that money having the damn thing tuned only now if I went fuel injected to rip the carbs off :( oh well, all part of the fun..

Id sell the engine as a whole. Might get 5g lowest I would think.

For 7g id say you could have almost had a 4age or ca in the car now.

The Honda would have been light and the capri heavy remember.

My standard escort stripped out with a standard 2l & 5speed with just a cam pulls dead even with my mates integra dohc vtec untill bout 140ks every time.

Shoes that its all reallyy power to weight.

Its primarily a show car eh? Since youve already spent soo much on the pinto I'd definately stay with that, and maybe try something funky like keep the carbs and s/c it or turbo it. Obviously this isnt the best way to make it faster but itd definately be cool and still worthy of a show car's engine...

I dont really care about the engine bay being bling or whatever and dont have plans to paint it all and make the engine something pretty to look at aye, looks better now than it did, but its not really high on the priority list...want more power and by the sounds of it, a turbo setup with carbs and what not isnt really the best thing to do for it...selling the engine could be the go though and starting with a fresh pinto...I dunno :S depends how much i can get for the pinto in it.

What are the dimensions of the primaries on your extractors?

It's all very well having tuned length 4 into 1s, but not if the diameter is larger and has slowed exhaust velocity.

Also have you had the valve timing tuned? Relatively good gains can be made by an experienced tuner on an accurate dyno and should actually reflect your driving style (DO you keeps revs up and power through corners or slow down then power out of them? - these are questions the people modding your engine SHOULD be asking of you) Being SOHC, the gains won't be as drastic as with a DOHC head where obviously cams can be tuned independantly for maximum effect....

Before making any rash decisions I'd look into whether or not you are being given the best from your current setup, though it may set you back a few man hours worth of quality tuning.

Well i just want a fast street car, not gonna race it or anything, although i guess itd go down the quarter once in a while. It was tuned by a guy here that knows his stuff about carbs, and has been tuning racecars and such for around 20 years apparently.

The only thing they mention was that it would be a good idea to get a electronic ditributor and my ones spark was all over the show, however this isnt going to increase power

Welcome to my world

Don't bother with the pinto mang, just go straight to a SR or something similar. You won't have to spend anywhere near as much(stock SR), it'll look good for show purposes and it'll go hard. I was gonna fuck with my N/A carby 4G63 SOHC, but decided to go with the EFI Turbo version. Double the power, and will be so much better

wow 7g! i just had my turbo pinto on the dyno last week had 160hp/4000rpm at wheels, a lil dissapointing but i got a few things up my sleeve lol. u will most likely need forged pistons if u want any power, some good cosworth ones on trademe at the mo, these will also reduce your cr to a turbo friendly rate. fuel injection is the way to go, carbs can work well tho jst its eaiser to tune a computer than a carb. good luck.

ill give you a grand for the pinto :P nah im thinking about forced induction on my tina atm aswell, seems like the far better option over na powerwise, but i dont really want to carb turbo, and having trouble trying to find one of them damn injection manifolds.

man, thats gotta hurt eh. if u can get 5 grand for your engine and maybe add another $4-5k i reckon you could have a turbo pinto. but i also think it'd be an idea to try get a YB engine out of a crashed cosworth (something i should have considered) if u manage to get the whole car you can transplant everything, from the fuel pump to the computer. id be surprised if it cost more than 8 grand, depending how much you can do yourself. (the engine would literally bolt straight in as im positive the blocks are the same as yours)

i reckon a 59 box would handle it too so long as u didnt thrash it every time u drove it.

theres alot to consider though, if u turb'd ur car you would probably need to get an atlas rear end, new gearbox, driveshaft, bigger brakes (princess minimum) fuel pumps, surge tanks, neck braces, you'd need a computer, then theres heaps of little crap, like fittings and fuel lines wires and plugs (fkin wreakers chargin $10 a plug?!), radiator, quad headlights (a must), shit like that. personally i say do it, standard pintos belong in escorts. if u wanted to keep it pure, reasonably quick and old school, look into putting a granada v6 (not an essex) into it, but saying that, you might not be happy with the performance till u spend $7k on that engine either. meh ill stop the rant, but hey if u need any help makin shit, give me a buzz eh
