70MK1
Bit of history - I brought her off a really good mate of mine who owned her for the last 10 years, in that time shes been used as a daily drive up until about 3 years ago where she ended up sitting at his mothers place in paraparaumu exposed to the weather etc, shortly after that all the rust was removed and repaired on the exterior, then she went to Taranaki with him where he didnt have the time to finish what he started. Rather then see some young 17 yr old get their hands on her, put an 8 in it & wrap it around a lamp post I decided to purchase her myself and give her the much loved TLC the old girl deserves. The Start Progress So Far Front struts totally rebuilt, new KYB shocks, new King springs & new DBA vented & slotted front disc rotors (no point in going fast if ya cant stop), struts have been sand blasted & re-sprayed black to match the rest of her. Calipers are currently being over hauled & should be back on in the next 6 weeks or so. A semi large hole has been cut out of the drivers side foot well where some rust was found, currently fabricating the replacement for this & should be in pretty soon. Re-built front shocks (G/box in pic was going to be used but have decided to go with a Supra box) Both the left & right side front inner guards have been sandblasted back to bare metal & rust treated in preparation for being painted black. Diff was removed & dis-assembled, discovered that the pinion gear is cracked so am in the process of sourcing a replacement, will be going with a Hilux 2WD LSD Existing Diff with a few extra shiney bits Original 4spd box will be replaced with a 5spd supra box for added toughness and reliability. In terms of the engine itself the only real change there will be the replacement of the old points dizzy with an electronic one, rocker covers & mounts have been sandblasted & painted, still have the air filter housing & cover to do. So as you can see its getting a lot of TLC, once the mechanicals etc have been sorted it'll be time to start on the body itself, which as a result of a lot of hard work over a weekend before my mate took her to Taranaki, should go pretty smoothly, she'll be rubbed back, primed & painted in black with the original chrome going back on. In terms of the interior there’s not much to be done there, a bit of a touch up here and there along with new Kenwood audio, alarm with a internal screamer in the cabin and replacement of the original front seats with a set of after market reclineables, purley for the fact that i want something a with bit more shoulder & head support for longer trips etc & and possible manfield days latter on down the track. Once back on the road she will be sitting a new set of ROH 17" alloys, which will be done as a special run for me in aussie as I found out that the alloy I want is no longer brought into New Zealand Once all is done she will hopefully look like this Forgot to mention, she's the Fist V6 MK1 Capri to land on our shores even have the original paperwork from day one when she was registered
70MK1
Drive train is all starting to piece together now Supra box & bellhousing were picked up in the weekend and a replacement diff has been found. Next on the list to do is finish the prep work on the inner guards, prime, paint and apply a very small amount of underseal. Front struts & diff can then go back in which will allow measurements to be taken for alloys, all this is planed for the next trip to Taranaki in a fortnight Ohhh and project #2 is a KE25, currently with a bluetop 4AGE but that will soon change details on that latter
