Gaz
s**t $500 for round 800 you can buy and shorten a 8inch falcon LSD diff. Supose that is with doing a bit of work yourself. ok, well wont be looking for the Borg no more then.
Guest WESTCORT
hilux all the way, bay
Gaz
have you done a hilux? can you tell me hwo you did it? From what i have found if i can find a pre 75 then it will bolt straight in, even the leaf holders are in the semi right place. BUT, i have tried to find one of these and even the wreakers say it is impossible. So i investigated the 75 onwards hilux diffs. I have decided a falcon diff is easier because. The hilux only comes in stupid ratios which are good for acceleration but to an extent. The hilux is alot more expensive to buy in the first place $800 for an LSD one. The hilux also costs more too shorten because the axles are cone shaped slightly which means cutting down to escort size is a mission because they wont line up again. All up for a hilux one brought and shortened estimate $1600 Maybe stronger than the falcon one i want to use but at the end of the day im thrown 200hp at it MAX, they both LSD, they both the same size, but the falcon is almost half the price and real easy to sourse. whats ya thoughts. davidian
dude, when decing between a ford diff and a hilux diff at a roughly same price, i reckon go for another Ford bit!
SYKOV6
the local falcon diff is known as a borg warner 78 series . it comes standard with ratios from 2.72.1 to 3.55.1 the later being a ute diff not all are lsd but all ratios can have the option of lsd so make sure the one u buy is an lsd. they normally have a tag on the rear hat that displays ratio and wether or not is lsd some late model falcon rears have a lower ratio but these gears wont swap into earlier housings. early diffs xy- xf can b had for $50 upwards expect to change stud pattern and driveshaft and a proportioning valve for the rear because the falcon drums work better than the esky discs a bit scary if u leap on the picks as car wants to swap ends. an 8in ford diff is the same type as a 9in only slightly smaller and came in early mustangs 65-67 six cyl or 289 v8 . i have one in my corty they are getting a little hard to get parts for. all ratios are available from the states and they will handle up to 400hp. i think the hi lux diff is a better option they are just as strong are a bit lighter and there are heaps of ratios
si
from what ive heard, hilux ratios are quite hard to get hold of, as are the diffs themselves nowdays
SYKOV6
it seems like everyones using them. i went to the drags and most of the low budget pro import guys are using them. i spose if the demand is there the price will remain high. which is probably why falcon diffs are cheap. what ratios are avialable for the hilux? RT
I was planning on getting an LSD from palmside for my English axle...but I think I'd still end up breaking halfshafts....
SYKOV6
RT with the kind of torque your making youd probably be better off with a hi lux or falcon or even a v6 capri just finding the right ratio for your set up
RT
yeah I'm still hunting for a V6 capri diff and I'll put an LSD on that... but they're hard to find. I was looking for a factory 2.8iS capri LSD but they're as rare as rocking horse shit over here.

SYKOV6
ive got a mustang 8in in the cortina with a mini spool plenty strong enough for the 300hp the chevys making but its alot of weight under the arse not good for the handling especially with the mini spool
