What's the go with repair certs for cars that haven't been flagged? Trying to sell my Zephyr project and have had a bloke tell me that the rust repairs need a repair cert. Rego is on hold and it hasn't been flagged as damaged etc. What's the go here? I was under the impression that once it's been repaired and painted etc it'll just be case of taking it for a wof as it hasn't been flagged as damaged at a wof or entry inspection?

If Rego is on hold, you don't need repair cert.

If reg was dead, and it required a re-vin, then he would be right. But in this case hes not.

Only thing that may happen if the repairs are obvious and/or structural, is come Wof time, you may be asked for a 'panel beaters report' to say that the repairs are decent.

Thanks fellas @Nominal @RXFORD @igor. I thought that was the case, I have photos of most of the repairs as well as the car in nearly bare metal so don't think there will be issues with the quality of the work. Guy that's been interested in buying it is an absolute critter and has apparently been stung before with a car that's been flagged so maybe he's got his wires crossed somewhere.

Yeah as @RXFORD said as long as the rego is on hold theres no need for repair cert . And as long as the repairs are done to a reasonable standard. And obviously not just urethane panels over rust you'll be fine.

People get repair cert and lvvta cert mixed up all the time and give out a bunch of false information.

It is possible for a vehicle to have a 'ban flag' put on landata , and i have heard of that happening to vehicles that have had dodgy wofs or shit repairs

Usually happens when a shitbox gets a wof , car gets sold, new owner has a moan , nzta gets involved and has a look at it , ban flag put on it

So maybe that's what the potential purchaser is thinking of if hes been burned before

Imagine if someone hacked the landata system and put a ban flag on all Wingroads.

It's harsh but fair

Mines the only one without cracked a door frames tho, you can trust me on that

We put a chassis under a viper that was like that. Still rego on hold but had an airbag recall flag or something like that on it. And it was because that was the only way nzta could prevent it getting a wof

Yeah could be that then, he said that he took it too a panel shop and they couldn't repair it either so could be the case. Fortunately not something I have to worry about is this case.

Sweet, I bought a carjam report for my own peace of mind and figured it would show up. Got someone else interested so fingers crossed I can have some shed space for the first time in a decade.

careful now I've found free shed space is like creating a vacuum

Yeah I've already got some terrible British vehicles on the watchlist tbh.

Yep, empty sheds tend to suck in shit from the yard/paddock.

Best of luck @chasinthemirage. Hope the big Z goes to someone who will do it justice.

Thanks very much @igor, bloke seems like a decent sort and has paid a deposit so hopefully the old thing will be on the road sooner rather than later!

I have had a look at the LVV sheet for engine conversions/driveshafts but it isn't super informative about the mod i may need to do.

If I want to cut solid front wheel drive axles and weld the end of a different FWD axle onto them, is that doable and do I need a driveshaft hoop on each axle? As it is a completely different situation from a front engine rear drive, obviously.

I imagine sleeved and plug welded would be ok.

Alternatively, I might be able to use the existing driveshaft assembly but would need to shorten it, which is kindof the same thing..

theres nothing about fwd or rear engine car shafts in the book

safety wise its not particularly problematic as its only transferring drive, and if they break, the wheel wont fall off, they arent doing heaps of rpm etc.

theres no requirement for loops in that situation

i would treat them like you would treat an axle in a diff as thats what they are more like, and theres very minimal requirements for those

sleeve and plug weld sounds like a good plan

Had a similar situation on the Imp and the engineer wasn't sure about it and kept saying he'd get back to me.

What I ended up doing is giving the completed half shafts to a machine shop who spun it in a cool old machine that measures deflection and wrote me a short report/permission slip which the cert man glanced at.
