This was the FB post, which you may (likely) have seen, but if not, should explain the whole shebang.

Press Release – Revocation of Certifier Appointment – Gareth Court

It is with regret that LVVTA announces that Gareth Court (GC Certifications Ltd, Auckland) is no longer an LVV Certifier, having had his Notice of Appointment revoked by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).

The revocation of Gareth’s appointment does not affect any LVV certifications completed by him, provided that the Electronic Data Plate (EDP) on a completed vehicle has been activated, and information and photographs supplied by the Certifier uploaded to the LVVTA lookup webpage.

LVVTA is aware of a number of vehicles LVV certified by Gareth Court that have gone significant lengths of time after final inspection and signoff without Gareth supplying his completed paperwork to LVVTA, meaning that the EDPs fitted to these vehicles have not been activated.

Until the details and photos from a certification are uploaded on the LVVTA lookup webpage, a vehicle is not LVV certified. Moreover, LVVTA has no knowledge of a vehicle undergoing an LVV inspection until it receives a Certifier’s paperwork. (See further explanation below.)

Understandably, this has caused significant frustration for affected vehicle owners, LVVTA staff, and other LVV Certifiers. To address this situation, LVVTA urges owners of any vehicles certified by Gareth Court within the last two years to check their EDP has been activated, and that modification details have been uploaded to the LVVTA Lookup webpage. This can be done by scanning the EDP with a Near Field Communicator-equipped phone, or entering the numbers on the EDP and the last six digits of the vehicle’s VIN or chassis number in the appropriate fields of the LVVTA Lookup webpage (https://lookup.lvvta.org.nz/).

If a vehicle has an EDP that is not active (when the details are entered into the Lookup page, or the EDP scanned, no vehicle certification is found), please email LVVTA (info@lvvta.org.nz) with details of the vehicle and EDP number, and when the final inspection of the vehicle was.

Guidance for affected vehicle owners

The final step of any LVV certification, after the LVV Certifier has completed their inspections of a vehicle, is the submission of the LVV Certifier’s inspection form-sets and photographs to LVVTA for processing, and as part of this, information and photographs of the vehicle’s modifications are uploaded to the online LVVTA certification lookup webpage for that particular EDP. This is known as ‘activating’ the EDP. LVV Certifiers are expected to submit completed paperwork within a reasonable timeframe of the final inspection.

LVV Certifiers work within the regulatory framework administered by both NZTA and LVVTA. However, Certifiers are independent businesses and are not employees or contractors of either NZTA or LVVTA. As such, unfortunately, LVVTA is limited in our ability to provide outcomes for vehicle owners affected by a Certifier’s failure to supply the relevant paperwork to us for completion of the certification process.

For vehicles that do not have an EDP fitted, but have been inspected by Gareth previously, unfortunately there is little option for the vehicle owner but to employ another LVV Certifier to inspect and certify the vehicle. Any recovery of costs arising from such a situation is a matter between the vehicle owner and the Certifier concerned.

That's handy, I did see them comment about it. Good to see them standing behind it, hopefully all gets sorted quick. I remember being fobbed off for months for final sign off (different certifier) it's not fun.

It's a pretty big hole he has dug himself into

There will probably be more non activated ones coming out of the woodwork in the next few weeks as this spreads

As well as him not activating them and pocketing the money, the other issue is wof inspectors have not been checking the certs at wof time so if nobody looks at the cert then nobody knows it's not activated for a year until the next wof

Tbh i'm surprised it took this long for something to happen, there has been issues with his service for quite a while

Not a great idea to rip people off, when you are talking $700-$1000 for a cert, and if there's multiple people he owes refunds, that's a big pile to find

Makes you wonder what situation people must be in to rip people off. I find it hard to fathom it's just greed in this situation where its so obviously that person, so expect there's some kind of desperation/addiction/broken knee caps going on. Semi OT, My old primary school by my folks place has had the office manager in the news for ripping off the school, which I found weird cos it's a really tight community, so waiting to see what the dealio is

It really is a shame when shit like this happens as it gives all the anti-cert loons more fuel and probably raises a few eyebrows at the govt/nzta level.

I guess Lvvta has thier hands tied to a degree as certifier are independent companies.

This pisses me off. It is bloody easy to check this stuff online, but all these lazy pricks do is make it harder for the rest of us. My phone doesn't have nfc, but i can still go the same pc i log the wofs on amd enter the cert number. If my dumb arse can do it, there is no excuse.

Bad enough the other bastards mailing out warrants etc, NZTA will retaliate by making things harder on the rest of us.

How does an ASX end up 15 times worse than a Ranger when it comes to "clean vehicle standards". I'm clearly missing something glaring as that makes no sense to me at all.

Something has to be wrong with that calculation. According to Rightcar, A Ranger produces 2.95 tons/year and an ASX 2.74 tons/year, unless the Ranger is somehow subsidised, there is no way its cheaper. Im sure I saw on the news a Ranger was going from about $7k fees down to $1500

Did a engine light inspection on a jag today, which got a new wof somewhere else last week dispite there was rust holes in the front of the chassis and less metal than rust in the rear subframe and the typical rear suspension play in the diff thrust bearings that is bad enough to sound like I’m dragging the trolley jack behind me .

the year before the same business failed it for the rust and “rear wheel bearing play” and replaced the outer bearing carriage with 2nd hand units which and did nothing about the rust.

Engine was toast anyway with rust on the cylinder walls, customer was planning to sell it with 14yrs since service and 4000miles overdue, some sucker will pay handsomely for this turdIMG_2889.thumb.jpeg.19e6a95c93da6670ae0a8042ac5f35ae.jpeg
