I would say 2.5 to 3.9 td might be a hard sell that it is actually less than a 50% increase, especially if you have things like a larger exhaust etc Does it make any difference that the same running gear is used in later more powerful versions? The 4.6 v8 had 222hp and 400nm
cletus
If you can legitimately prove that the shaft is the same between the higher hp one, then that may be enough to not have to fit a loop
chasinthemirage
Middy's car has failed a wof, one of the last things left to do is the wipers and washers. I've fixed the front but the pump for the rear reservoir has been sitting in water and is shagged. I don't really want to spend $93 on a new pump, can I just remove the rear wiper arm and washer nozzle?
AllTorque
Rear wiper and washer doesn’t need the work for a wof. No need to remove them. 1
kws
Lol I wasn’t aware they didn’t need to work so I spent considerable effort making them work on the sd1 only for it not to be checked at wof time. Ah well.

kws
I forget, on a car with reg on hold and no wof do I need to renew rego before wof, or wof before rego? Does it matter? also, taking off hold, do I just buy rego like normal?

Wof before rego (cant get rego without wof) And yes, you just go buy rego like normal when you want to bring it off hold. 1

Carsnz123
Whats the interpretation of the High stop light rules? to quote NZTA's VIRM "A class MA vehicle first registered or manufactured on or after 1 January 1990 must be fitted with one or two high-mounted stop lamps." I take that as pre 1990 vehicles don't need one. And welding new spring perches on a diff. Cert or nocert?
AllTorque
No high stop needed for pre 1990. This rule has changed recently, so there may be some inspectors that need educating.

Was planning on putting a Toyota F series diff in my cedric because they're dime a dozen and easier to get taller ratios.

Seedy Al
Yip. With out a doubt. Custom drive shaft also means drive shaft loops.
Carsnz123
Forgot about the driveshaft. Yeah that will throw a spanner in the works. Need to find some tall h190 diffs.
brocky41
@Carsnz123 What ratio do you need, or do you just need 5 speeds?
Carsnz123
I kinda want to keep the 3 speed column box so taller the better. Standard 260c is 4.1. 5 speed box will make it go better but doesn't have that cool column factor.
Seedy Al
You need to talk to the Barry known as @fletch He is a nissan gearbox magician. Is running a 5 speed column shift converted from Nissan and datsun lego in his datsun 240c wagon.
