Should be able to adapt factory seat sliders/brackets to recaros with some box section

Factory rails are flat with the base on one side, other side is vertical (mounting to the side of the seat)

Existing brackets on the recaros will offset the box section just the right amount to match the existing seat mount holes

Will use 50x50 on one side, other side will need 75x something

I will use Allen head bolts, mounting through a single layer, (so a larger access hole on the other side of the rhs)

Sounds legit to me, I don't think it would twist.

Is 3mm wall thickness suitable

Factory seat rail bolts just have a 7 on them, assume il need ones with 8. 8 on them

Sounds OK, 3mm will be fine,  put lock washers everywhere, use 8mm bolts minimum, if the recaros have 6x 6mm bolts that's OK but make sure you fit all 6

I assume the factory seat belt anchorage for the buckle is on the oe seat rails?

2 8mm bolts each side of the recaros, and same on the nissan rails, so no worries using 8mm all round there.

Seat belt is on the seat rail

Il cut off the hinge part, belt was on that big square nut, but il doubler plate it to the trans tunnel

The rear mounting hole on that inside rail is inside of the seat belt nut. Assume that's close enough as practical to the end and I dont need to redrill

Doubler plates is fine, but its probably better/easier if you can still mount the buckle to the original mount?

Especially if the original buckle is kinda short  it can be difficult to get it in a good spot when allowing for seat travel

Yeah if it's all factory stuff and it locks the same as original it will be OK

Aftermarket rails are mostly shit so you can't do that with them

If you compare an oe rail designed to take seat belt loads vs your typical nzkw or whatever aftermarket rail you will see the difference easily

Hi Cletus/OS council.  Regarding fuel system on escort mk2. I was thinking of blanking off the factory fuel filler because caps are rare and expensive and they get stolen. If I move the filler to inside the boot do I need to fully weld and seal off the cabin from the boot? I assume an alloy sheet glued and riveted (for rough example) wouldn't be sufficient?  The car will be full interior Inc parcel shelf and rear seats. I would essentially flip the fuel tank 180°, use factory mounting holes etc and make a filler neck to meet up with a 'rally style' filler/ drip tray.  Sealed fuel cap and drain to outside the car also.  Some pics to hopefully explain better than I can

Std fuel tank.

Alternatively, if I used a filler cap from something modern and obtainable, used the top of the filler neck and standard rubber filler donut from escort, would that need a cert?

Standard filler location.

Filler and drip tray Style I would be using.

*Edit: I was looking at the wrong price.  The plastic is 22.99, the chrome is 69.99..

Including shipping that's $188 Nzd. Not including any tax incurred at the border, if it was genuine I'd consider it, but I've used those numerous times in the uk on mk3 and 4 escorts, they last a few yrs and the lock breaks and you've got to drill them out. If the fuel filler mod Is viable though, I might continue and fit bucket seats and wheels, suspension etc, which I plan to do later anyway. This is the bit I'm unsure about though. The "fully sealed and impervious isolation panel" . If that means the whole boot area separate from the cabin I'm unlikely to bother tbh. Just spring for the expensive cap, or again if I can find an oe one that looks OK might graft that one on

Yeah you have to seal the boot off from the cabin. Usually the rear firewall and parcel shelf is easy as you can do that with  large flat panels . The hard part is up the insides of the pillars and rear quarter panels, that is difficult to do neatly

On my plymouth I made some panels that sort of match the shape and filled behind them with expanding foam

Tridon have a listing for escort fuel cap TFL217. Supercheap should be able to get you one for about $30.

Love the debate.

These guys (i.e. the lvvta) are a privately owned group of investors that won a government contract (in the early 90's) to mandate standards, and to manage the certification process, of any modified NZ vehicle.

What they have morphed into is open to debate; their agenda (apart from the obvious "justifying your existence") is open to further conjecture.

My prediction, (yes I know! :) ) is that it only is a matter of time before we adopt the Australian ADR standards as we have with the majority of NZ standards, e.g. New Zealand and Australian Standards 3760 & 3012.

Rant over...........heads back to the man-cave with drink in hand. 8-)
