79 is when rear belts became a requirement,  so technically, you won't need them.

Good idea to fit them though, if the holes are there already.

Haven't looked for mounting points yet. Need another storage shed before i take the rest of it apart. Can't rush these jobs.

Cheers for the info.

Potentially looking to get rid of the yuck taillights on my Mk6 Mini and replace them with far cleaner looking Mk2 items that bolt straight in (so I'm led to believe). Only problem is they don't have provisions for reverse lights. Everywhere I've read says reverse lights need to work if fitted, but not an issue if they aren't fitted. Can someone confirm this. My WOF guy is pretty chill, but I don't want to test things too much.

Correct. Reverse lights are a permitted  lamp. So you don’t need them.

Just try reversing your 1973 mini estate with no reversing lights down an unlit winding driveway after delivering pizza to the address at night time. Is that bit of dark darker than the other dark? Yes, it's a post and you have just run into it.

There is a rear fog/park light which I may wire up into a reverse light just in case any poles sneak up on me

I have had my chev V8 rebuilt and it smokes a little on startup. Stinks of burnt oil and is blueish. A quick rev and it goes away so my guess is that one of the rings might be shot seeing as I had all new valve stem seals put in. Haven't compression tested it yet however.

Does anybody know what is needed for a wof in regards to smoke? I have just moved to a new area so haven't figured out who are the better ones with old cars yet.

If there is no smoke once it warms up when you give it a rev, it will pass.

Ta. It's always a bit nervy going to a new wof place after leaving an area where the wof guy was really helpful. Pity it is a 3 hour journey back or I'd go back there.

If anybody knows an old car WOF specialist in the South Wairarapa please shoot me a message.

If turners is selling a vehicle as dereg, but ltsa shows it as still live, do they dereg it before handing it over? or is it just a mistake on their data entry

Owned 2 bikes in my name for 3 months, they dereged one the day before I picked up, the 2nd they took the plate but didn't dereg

The system works

Take it back to the shop who did the rebuild

Nah. It's only a little smoke and isn't using any oil noticeably. After years of it being a project I'm happy for it to just work.

When it finally throws a leg out of bed it'll be a good excuse to put in a diesel truck engine like I've always wanted to do. I'm just sick of it being a project. Plus whilst I'm building a cabin it it better than a box trailer.
