cletus
Yeah I think that would be OK to modify or remove , add some sort of strength back into the join another way
Bearded Baldy
1978 falcon. Never had rear seatbelts. If i was to cert for efi upgrade on the 6 cylinder, later diff with discs, aside from brake test and driveshaft hoop is there anything going to trip me up? Will i need to fit rear belts? Reg on hold not lapsed.
igor
Might have factory holes for seatbelts already in it. My '78 coon did.
cletus
79 is when rear belts became a requirement, so technically, you won't need them. Good idea to fit them though, if the holes are there already.

Cheers for the info.
Crispy
Potentially looking to get rid of the yuck taillights on my Mk6 Mini and replace them with far cleaner looking Mk2 items that bolt straight in (so I'm led to believe). Only problem is they don't have provisions for reverse lights. Everywhere I've read says reverse lights need to work if fitted, but not an issue if they aren't fitted. Can someone confirm this. My WOF guy is pretty chill, but I don't want to test things too much.
SOHC
Frend took his car in for a cert for brakes and gearbox swap and the cert guy wants him to put Dynamat on the floor, is that normal? 2

Reverse lights are a permitted lamp. So you don’t need them.

Not really, but there might be a reason, like the floor or tunnel gets really hot

Just try reversing your 1973 mini estate with no reversing lights down an unlit winding driveway after delivering pizza to the address at night time. Is that bit of dark darker than the other dark? Yes, it's a post and you have just run into it. #oddlyspecific 3

igor
Just put one of the indicators on when backing in the dark. Always worked for me on my Wolseley 1300.
dmulally
I have had my chev V8 rebuilt and it smokes a little on startup. Stinks of burnt oil and is blueish. A quick rev and it goes away so my guess is that one of the rings might be shot seeing as I had all new valve stem seals put in. Haven't compression tested it yet however. Does anybody know what is needed for a wof in regards to smoke? I have just moved to a new area so haven't figured out who are the better ones with old cars yet. Ta. It's always a bit nervy going to a new wof place after leaving an area where the wof guy was really helpful. Pity it is a 3 hour journey back or I'd go back there. If anybody knows an old car WOF specialist in the South Wairarapa please shoot me a message.

It's only a little smoke and isn't using any oil noticeably. After years of it being a project I'm happy for it to just work. When it finally throws a leg out of bed it'll be a good excuse to put in a diesel truck engine like I've always wanted to do. I'm just sick of it being a project. Plus whilst I'm building a cabin it it better than a box trailer. 5
