When I was in the re-po game dipshits would tick a car up get a few payments behind (fucking instantly) and hand the plates in to get the rego paid out then blow the money on Codies 12% cans on the drive home. They end up stuck with a de-reg car they can't sell because the entire value is still owed.

Do a money owing report before taking a de-reg car away saves a lot of dicking around not buying someones problems.

I would like to cut a 2.5" hole in my headlight panel in my truck. The inner panel has 2 holes already because they were set up for twin lights and is where I want it. The one in front is a single lamp panel and so is flat metal where I want the hole. Would this be considered a radiator/frontal support panel? And does it matter because it's an 81?

Basically I want to fit a wee snorkle to my airbox to gather cold air. The snorkle hole in the commodore airbox is open almost exactly at the unused inner headlamp space so would be fairly easy otherwise

Hey guys, just looking for some advice on whether my gearbox cross-member setup for the Esky will pass cert.

The mount itself is from Palmside and is 3mm steel. The pieces to mount the gearbox mount to the floor are 5mm steel (with the 2 smaller pieces going inside the car on the floor and the 2 larger pieces going underneath).

My main area of concern is whether the pieces that go inside the car are large enough (is there a minimum size?), and whether the taper style bolts will be ok? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, hoping I can just stick with whats here.

would probably be ok, if the shock is designed or is suitable for putting a bump stop on, and the bump stop limits the travel correctly before anything binds, tyre rub, etc

hmm. bit of an odd design.

my opinion is it will probably flex and move , if the plates go thru one layer of floor panel steel. I may be wrong though, its the sort of situation where you would probably have to fit it and try it.

 

if the crossmember  and lower plates were one piece (ie a longer crossmember) and gusseted correctly it would be more likely to be ok.

 

I have done certs on a few different cars, including escorts, where they have done a similar system, but using a plate on top of the floor that extends up the side of the tunnel a bit as well, stitch welded to the top side of the floor

Hey Cletus, thanks for the reply. This setup was in the car originally when I got it, and did work fine. Getting some larger top plates and welding in shouldn't be much of a problem though. Do you think the current setup would pass? Or is it not quite that black and white without actually testing it?

this. I couldn't tell you 100% it would or would not pass without seeing it in person.

what I usually do with gearbox mounts to assess whether they are strong enough isn't very scientific- grab the back of the box and swing off it.

= if the floor moves around- its probably going to split the floor eventually

 

if those brackets fit the way I think they do, you could fix it relatively easily
