well i got off my ass and did some work today.

Tools required, craft knife, 17mm socket with rachet and bottle opener.

miniandmore002.jpg

The bushes came as one piece with no cut in it (needed to be like this to be made) so you need to look at the stock bushes and decide where you want to make the cut. I could possibly get them cut before shipping out.

miniandmore001.jpg

Undo the 2 17mm bolts on each bracket and then remove the bracket. lift the rack up a little bit and pull out the stock bushes.

miniandmore003.jpg

I took the time to spray abit of degreaser around the place and removed some bolts which were stuck between the crossmember and the steering rack. (im sure you will find at least one there too)

miniandmore004-1.jpg

Wait for the degreaser to evaporate and then slide in the new bushes.

miniandmore005.jpg

Put the brackets back on and tighten the 17mm bolts back up.

More bush than Jesus!

then have a beer

miniandmore006.jpg

big thanks to Ronnie

picked up diff today, Diffs R Us did a good job of setting it up.

Seems really tight, so should be sweet.

Camber kit has arrived(big thanks to Norbie), so ill get that welded in, supposed to have adjustment from +2.4 to -2.4 or there abouts, so that should help.

Will post pics soon, photobucket is down at the moment.

had a busy weekend, with working on the supra and the house.

Big thanks to my mates Malcolm and ewan for their help with the carbon trim.

Malcolm did the carbon work and ewan made the mould.

Started stripping the engine bay ready for painting, found a few small bits of rust which we will cut out, but overall its pretty good.

Just using a wire brush on a grinder to strip the paint at the moment, its going to take me awhile.

Im a little worried, because with the engine bay on its way to looking so nice i will probably have to drop the cross member and steering rack and get all that stuff looking nice. it has opened a can of worms

Went to order the turbo GT3582R, but they are out of stock at the moment. doh! but no rush.

Just want to get this thing finished so i can start spending more time and money on our house. 8)

insert comment about too many gauges here ====>

Autogauge water temp

Autogauge volts

Autogauge Oil temp

Autogauge oil pressure

Autometer air/fuel

Autometer/JRS boost gauge

Pivot knock off fan control

Apexi RSM and g sensor

Blitz DSBC

Blitz MSTT

Probably not going to run the volts gauge anymore as the rsm(currently in fxgt) does voltage

custom mounts in dash air vents.

Autometer gauges pods (thanks to Fortyone!)

Just gotta work out where to mount stuff, dont want to use the a piller if i can avoid it.

Big thanks to Ryan (ryanfel) who popped round today with some wheels.

the fronts are prooving difficult to sort out due to the massive 4pots on there but the rears were a near perfect fit (15x8 -12) so with a higher offset, i reckon i could get 9s in there.

think ill go with the 15x7s for now,

Takashi.jpg can always sort something out later. only reason i need to get wheels sooner rather than later, is to get the thing rolling again with the brake upgrade sorted.

Photos015.jpg

Photos016.jpg

also, thanks to the guys at race brakes, ive sorted out new discs and pads for the rear.

I finally get to use my engine stand after buying that many a year ago and being used by others in the meantime.

Big thanks to Cully who has been putting up with my nagging so far.

Photos030.jpg

We put the block on the stand tonight (needs another clean) but we will be painting the outside of the block this weekend, as well as the inside with some etch primer stuff then assembly can start.

Photos026.jpg

The crank has had more meat taken out off it than a christmas ham at new years.

Photos031.jpg

Photos033.jpg

basically, the block has been acid dipped, decked/surfaced (prepped for the mhg) and honed with a carbon boring machine.

The crank has been knife edged, ground and polished for new acl race bearings.

The whole rotating assembly has been balanced and then the rods shot peened.

We will put new frost plugs in as well.

forgot to update this, some of you might be interested in the progress (or lack of) that has been made.

well i got the modified rear subframe back from the powder coaters.

looks like stock now 8O

should be able to dial it out to -1 degrees from -3 that it sits at currently.

Got the front cross member and diff cross member done while i was at it.

Hopefully start assembling the rear end this weekend.

Photos042.jpg

Photos044.jpg

Photos045.jpg

Photos046.jpg

The oil pump has been cleaned and tested (well within spec, infact its tighter so should be all good)

Got the rings installed now and the 6 piston/rod assembly sorted.

Looking good so far

Photos049.jpg

Photos050.jpg

Photos056.jpg

also, cleaned up the oil squirters and put them in

Photos060.jpg

Installed the new heater core (heater was d/c when i got the car as the core leaked)

and the replacement a/c ducting from a non a/c model.

Photos078.jpg

Photos079.jpg

Only thing i gotta do now is work out where the cables all go.

There are 2 vacuum lines as well, does anyone know where the cables and vacuum lines go?

Photos090.jpg

Photos091.jpg

Rear end is assembled, just need to install now.

Hope to have an updated eta on the wheels today.

Also, i notice alot of people run fuel controllers with the lexus afm/550 combo like the apexi safc2. is this really needed? or can i worry about that latter?

got the old bushes pressed out and the new superpro ones installed.

put the passenger side arm in today, with the new tie rod end, ball joint and rack end. cant wait till the car is back on the ground. the new wheels arrive next week :D

Photos095.jpg

Photos100.jpg

painted up the nissan 4pots

Photos104.jpg

new mikespeed sub box, wanted a fibreglass box, but decided against that with the audiobahn sub, so went with traditional wood, with internal bracing etc.

Photos101.jpg

Photos102.jpg

big thanks to Nick (tsoob) for putting up with my nagging and helping me source some wheels that will fit (offset and stud pattern makes wheels hard to find) and clear the nissan 4 pots.

i dont see these tyres lasting long once the car is going

Photos108.jpg

Got some more done to the engine this weekend. The front cover is on and the seal drying, so next lot of pictures should show the bottom end nearly finished.

100_0089.jpg

100_0090.jpg

bought some side skirts as well, need a little bit of work. but should look good once tidied up and painted. Should go well with the front lip

cid__media1.jpg

i have 3 out of the 4 wheels on now and lowered the rear end off the axle stands. camber looks ok at this stage, but may change slightly when front is lowered? will need a serious wheel alignment soon anyways.

well, progress is being made.

The sump is in being winged and baffled thanks to Alex (postfach)

We will be rolling the car out next weekend to put dummy motor in and then Simon (evil_si) will be making up 2 manifolds for the supra with the less space (mk2 and mk3)

wastegate port will be welded onto the exhaust housing of the turbo for better flow.

Once manifold is made, the engine bay will be painted and the good motor installed.

Cant wait 8O

big thanks to simon (evil_si) for the work he has done so far.

Did a test fit in the MA70 and needs a few mods to runners 1, 2 and 3.

Its made from 26mm steam pipe and is surprising light for its size.

hoping to do a test fit this weekend depending on what state im in after my engagement party.

What does everyone recommend in the way of coatings or wraps for exhaust manifolds?

cheers

after showing a large amount of booze(engagement party) who was boss last night i woke up ready for some work on the heap (after a good helping of pancakes)

Test fit of dummy motor and tacked up manifold.

runner #6 is pretty much touching the steering rack knuckle and the compressor housing cant be spun enough to have the outlet pointing down. But other than that, it works well. So we will make some changes so it suits both the mk2 and 3 and then it will be finished up.

makes the turbo look rather large when its sitting in place 8O

pics019-1.jpg

Just gotta get it pro coated and its good to go.

Cut out the rusty lower radiator support crossmember and had a replacement one from a parts car welded in (it had been replaced in the parts car at some stage with a new item but welded in very poorly)

pics004-1.jpg

hopefully get the engine bay finished prepped for painting next weekend.

Been a busy weekend.

Replaced the shower mixer, did some more work on the spare room and managed to find some time to work on the heap.

Engine bay all primered up, was hoping to get the first coat of colour on, but the temp was starting to drop.

i am getting abit more motivation to work on it again, seeing the engine bay in one colour again. Also, went on a supra cruise last night and must say i need to get mine going again so i can restore my enjoyment of the roads out to piha. Did not like sitting behind mk4s, doin 60kph through twisties. 8O
