if flipping leaves is so illegal then can u please tell me why my old dx wagon went straight through an onroad testing station wof with no problems at all :?::?:

its not hard 2 do. just pull the leafs out undo the bolt in the middle and grind/bend the clamps off. flip the 2 middle leafs and clamp them back 2gether. a big vise and vise grips and stuff are really handy

K whatever, theyre legal then. I've been told and I've read that its totally illegal, you probably got a retarded tester, there's a fuk of alot of the pricks. Im assuming by flipping you mean the whole lot, I'm not sure about changing positions and crap.

This is what the WOF book says :

LVV certification is not required provided that:

Springs and shock absorbers

-the springs or shock absorbers are direct replacements, and

-replacement springs fit and maintain contact with un-modified OE seats throughout

full suspension travel, and

-replacement springs are self-retaining in their seats at full extension, without the use

of non-standard devices such as wire-ties, straps, or external spring locators, and

-replacement springs have not been heated or cut, and

-springs and spring seats are not height adjustable (unless OE), and

-replacement shock absorbers fit un-modified OE mountings, and

-suspension maintains sufficient travel for safe operation when fully

laden, and

-suspension components maintain sufficient clearance from unmodified bumpstops

when fully laden, and

-a minimum of 100 mm ground clearance exists below any part of the vehicle

structure, or any steering, braking, or suspension component1, and

-the normal relationship between front and rear suspension height is not unduly

affected.

Lowering blocks

(for leaf springs,

to adjust their ride height)

the blocks are:

- securely fitted, and

- constructed from metal, and

- designed for the purpose, and

- firmly seated over not less than the OE seat area, and

- not more than 50 mm in height.

Sorry dude, I do know a lil bit but just trying to stop people doing it cos it ruins it for everyone else, if you drive on the roads that is. I wouldn't say it was an argument, more like he made a comment, which had no malice Im pretty sure, and sweet as. you asked, i told you. :?

hey rxford maybe next time u wanna know sumthing u shood pm me first before asking the others lol 8)

you can get the sprins re-set, which is what i did, proffessionally mind you, wasn't that expensive.

lowering blocks aren't that bad, doesn't make it handle as flash but lowering doesn't always do that either.

just remember, do what ever you want to ya car, legal or illegal, but if your in an accident, and the insurance people or cops check ya car, and you have illegal work on ya wheels that you knowingly did/know about....... your insurance might not pay up (they are barstards like that)........ and the cops might say "are that was the cause of the accident"...... and your ar5e is theirs!

my last ride past a wof with the springs lifted and flipped to the top....i was told as long as you keep the main spring(the one with the bushes/shackles) is in its original location ie: not flipped...

ive seen a courier ute that had flipped leaves,it got hit on the rear 1/4,snapped the leaf at the bush keeper due to the reversed action of travel= weakened leaves....

in my ute (rx3ute) all i did in the rear was remove 4 leaves(from 7!),

took the middle 2 and flipped them in between the main and the lower leaf(about 10" long)...so i still had all the strenght left in them, but the 2 flipped leaves helped lift the diff up,still had a mint ride..i also had 50mm blocks.....

if your gonna change your suspension...do it right....dont cut corners:ie leave shit undone/unclamped etc....

make sure shit dont rub when its lowered.....saves alot of other probs....

just my $1 worth i guess....

Why dont you go and pay the whole $120 it cost to get it compressed properly?

Last time I did it at Snells thats what it cost. If you cant afford that, then you shouldnt do it at all, just leave it until you can afford it. Flipping leaves works, and may pass at some dodgy wof place but its such a f*#king mission why would you bother.

Saves time and hassle in the long run and as someone else said if you have insurance and you rangi your car up then kiss it goodbye for sure.

Some shit is just common sense.

Shit you must've had a pretty blind dude there! One of my workmates took his Mk2 Escort van through and they told him to get his springs re-set! They didn't like the flipped leaves.

Dunno how many of you saw the Dark Blue Anglia in the show at the Auck Nats, but that had a couple of leaves removed, he flattened all the leaves flat with a hammer and anvil, used some slightly thicker flat steel to make stronger leaves(only about 2 per side) then assembled the spring packs and took them to get heat treated. Worked a treat, doesn't sag when on the road - real firm ride, also no spring flex or horrible tramp when on power or when wheel spin occurs
