  1. While on a family jaunt to Papamoa last week, Mr Chris Grant was taking photos of trash on the side of the road, and messaged me some pics: a 1989 Fabryka Samochodów Osobowych (FSO) 125p Pickup, which is a Polish licenced version of a FIAT 125 (Russian Ladas are FIAT 124 based) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polski_Fiat_125p These have 125-eque bodies and the preceeding 1300/1500 model running gear Anyway, i got him to investigate further and he sent me this: Its got a twin cam it instead of the factory 1500 pushrod (same engine as my 2300 with 2 less cylinders) Anyway, seems legit and i ring the guy to organise a viewing the following weekend (on my way to wellington) and if (LOL) i buy it, to collect it on the way home a week later. So thats what happened... discussion \/
  2. I've finally managed to score my first Datsun... ...a rare 521 Pickup! Just got this home the other day, and have been stuck into it trying to get it to go, but the Auckland weather has other plans. So far, I've washed the mountain of rat poo out of the battery tray, and removed the rats nest above it, thankfully with no rats to be found. However, the little buggers have had lots of wires for lunch, rendering the ignition useless. This is the first thing to be re-done. The plan is to get rid of the farmer spec wooden bed on the back and get a wellside for the truck, to make it more of a "pickup". It's running an L20B, that doesn't actually run. Spent today playing around trying to bypass all the shit wiring, but to no avail. Sparks at the points, but not at the plugs. Replaced dizzy cap, coil, leads, and... ...nothing! Have heard that these L series dizzys can pack up when they feel like it, so I'm just gonna replace it (preferably with elec. ingition). Hopefully that gets us up and running. Engine has a mean looking set of extractors, and twin Hitachi SU carbs, so I'm hoping that it has a bit of "go" to it. Came with a spare diff with an Alloy head that turns out to be an LSD which will be lots of fun :)) Really straight truck for what it is, shouldn't be too long before we're on the road. Better photos when it's not raining. Cheers OS, Jack.
  3. Havent been on here for a while but in the mean time have picked up a 52 Chev pick up that the plan is to have going for Beach Hop 2020. Running the OG 216ci straight 6 and 4 speed on the floor. Solid original truck with only a couple of bits of minor rust, A heap of newish chrome was on it, interior has been redone at some point and truck was more or less running and driveable. Stage 1 plan for it is: - Rust & Bang a few dents out - New timber deck -Artileries & Big whitewalls with new hub caps & beauty rings -Fulton Visor -6V to 12V Conversion -Heap of minor badges, mirrors etc -Slam -Vin -Roll 2020 Beach Hop Pics of when i first got it.
  4. Build: Suggest me things! The plan is to get it on the road, and then tear it apart and do everything properly (engine & bay tidy up, chassis cleanup etc...) Cheers
  5. Ive been following Kpr's hilux build on here after seeing a video on facebook of it shredding mud and decided people might want to see how i guess a similar build is going. (not trying to steal spot light just think people might be intrested) bare with me i have like 200+photos and alot of info to type so may take awhile im a drainlayer by trade so deffo not a pro but have had my fair share of building 4x4s and other things. haters shall hate... ill start from the very begining, so after i finished building 2x nissan patrols i wanted something abit more exciting, so feburary 2017 i aquired a certified 1991 ln106 hilux with a 350 sbc with a R series toyota box behind it, it ran like shit when i brought it so the mods began and i got it running nice again with new carby, leads, intake etc
  6. This is a fairly recent import from Cali, so nice and dry with a just a few small area's of metal needing attention. The worst being the battery tray and gutter above the windscreen. It's had a mustang engine conversion and although it's nice and straight the welding wasn't quite cosmetically up to scratch so I had the engine pulled out and the welds tidied up. Also the firewall looked like swiss cheese and had multiple holes that needed patching as well. I'm picking up the truck later this week and bringing it home with the engine in the tray. The plan is to paint the engine bay before the motor goes back in. Orange isn't exactly my ideal colour. You can find some photos here of the engine welds that needed tidying: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tqda68laphx6aqp/oVC95mef4b Plus a couple of small rusty bits to attend to. I also had some new leave springs fitted but this has raised the rear quite alot which isn't ideal.
