  1. Hi all, Long time lurker. I brought this car out off Dunedin 2 and a bit years ago, off a friend of mine who id hounded for a while to be able to buy it off him. I brought it Reg on hold, no wof, motor not running, manual swap not quite complete, and the interior in the boot. Car is a Hardtop, with the eagle Mask front end, my favorite combination! A buddy of mine and I drove down, threw it on the trailer and brought it home. Car was originally a 1geu, Auto. It had a 1gge and W57 stabbed into it, but a long way from running. Once it arrived home i reassembled it to see what was missing. A pic form the day i picked it up In the 2 years following that i battled my way through making it run. Someone had REALLY funked up the motor loom, and most of the time was spent chasing that. A few spots of rust were removed, Engine painted and freshened up, engine bay painted (twice god damn it). Interior was re instated, wiring loom tucked, coilovers, bushings, booster delete, proportioning valve, strut brace and eventually a full respray. Among a thousand other jobs December of 2019 the car was certified for everything, luckily it went through with very minor issues. Car as it sits now While in lockdown ive been chasing issues with the factory EFI. I hate this EFI system, it is rubbish. Probably more of an issue because of the muppet who tried to fix the loom for the owner before me, but none the less its been a nightmare. So to cure it, ive started collecting the parts to do a full conversion to side draft carbs. Triple webers seem to be the answer in my mind anyway. Thats all for now, ill detail some of the process in future updates, and specifically the carb conversion. Thanks!
  2. Discuss - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38319-be4vers-gx61-mark-ii/ Welcome to my newest project! the story goes like this..... in ashburton this past weekend was the street sprints and as it happens a fella for surfab was there taking some sweet pics which i saw pop up on facebook as i was flicking through them i came across this one here this is looking through the back gate of the local wreckers. If you look hard you can see the front of a fairly tidy looking gx61. so i thought I MUST INVESTIGATE! so i did today cos i forgot until just this afternoon and it was pretty dam tidy! 117kms almost no rust and looks like it was reg n wofd till just last month! but then i saw this on the window and my heart dropped fuck! so i raced round and found the manager and told him i had to take it away asap before it was destroyed. Scored it for $450 so im pretty stoaked! unfortunately its deregistered but thats no biggie the main problem is this bit dosent work! havent looked into it yet but it sounds pretty low in compression and its pressurising the radiator haha. Hoping for a fucked headgasket heres the rest of the car the only rust i can find pretty happy with that! plans at this stage will be to get it going (weather its repair or new engine), revin, and criuse. Then lots of lowness and wide as wheels and fender mirriors. and 5 speed would be cool but not too worried. chances are if the engine is toast i'll be very tempted to go down the JZ road Discuss - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38319-be4vers-gx61-mark-ii/
  3. 1geu manual lowered on cobra Springs or similar, Matt and satern black Sigma steelies. Plan to widen them once I have funds to do so. I have a 1g-ge with loom and computer sitting around. Planning to put that in soon after WOF. has been off the road for around 2years due to laziness. WOF booked for Wednesday and should be attending local meets asap. chur! cid:AC17DDFC-9BA6-4844-9CB7-2D7C4C20C7EB/20140704_124904_resized_1.jpg cid:56FAE128-83C9-48C0-A9C4-04A3D42616A2/20140704_124835_resized_1.jpg cid:FF751CAB-E4D1-49A2-AF62-23C5C11E300B/20140704_124811_resized_1.jpg. Sorry still can't get photos up...
  4. Been spending money First course of action = sort a Y adapter so I can run the exhaust I bought in Hamilton when I picked the car up. Fujitsubo rear muffler! Then wheels, and probably lower more. Oh, and gotta take those terrible decals off.
  5. My Mums partner scored me this mark II for my 21st!! he got it off his dad who has owned and garaged it for the last 20 years, has a 1.8 1s u, 4 speed manual w55 box, 175XXX, completely stock. This is also my first car that I want to put money into/first rwd manual car.
  6. So I have decided to do a build thread on my 1987 Toyota Mark II so i can have a record of all the mods I have done and also so anyone else interested can have a look. I saw the car on Trademe about a month ago and fell inlove with it pretty much straight away, so i called the owner up and asked if i could come have a look that night. After giving it a look over and not being able to find any faults, apart from the minor rust on the underside of the bonnet, I purchased it and was extremely pleased. I quickly sold my Subaru before the turbo blew up. The mark II is a factory manual (w55) and has a 1.8L, 4cyl engine (1s). A f*ckload better on fuel than the Subey. The next day at work I put it up on the hoist to have a look underneath and replaced the engine oil, oil filter, diff oil, and gearbox oil. I also found that the driveshaft hanger bearing was f*cked so I ordered a new one. Oh my occupation is a Toyota mechanic by the way, so that comes in handy. After replacing the driveshaft hanger bearing the next day, i thought of what I wanted to do next. I got a fresh W.O.F and some rego so atleast it was all road worthy. So recently i have been looking at an insane amount of mark II and Cressida build threads on the net and have pretty much sorted the look i want to go for. Heres a pic of when i got her, only thing I had done is fitted the train hanger. As you can see, she is completely standard and waaaaaay too high. so I called in a favor from my dad , Iain Wilson, at Racelign/Autolign in Mt Wellington. He hooked me up with some Bilstein shocks for the rear, Dobi lowering springs all around and shortened shocks in the front. You cant really see how low it is in this picture but i will upload a decent pic tomorrow, also this was after I gave her a decent wash and polish. Bilsteins and Dobis. It rides so much better now and doesnt look like a boat. Ill upload a decent pic of how it sits tomorrow. Also I decided that I wanted a twin 2inch boso style exhaust, but not an over the top exhaust that goes over the roof or anything, just like, 300mm out the back on an angle. So I went and talked to Derek ( not sure if thats spelt right ) at Counties Mufflers, he was extremely helpful and gave me a few options, definitely recommend this guy to anyone looking for work done on their exhaust system. So what im going to do is remove the rear muffler and then have a splitter separating the 1 and a half inch exhaust into 2 2inch pipes. But when i removed the rear muffler tonight and started it up I decided I might fit a small muffler before the splitter because its offensively loud haha. So i cut the pipe just before the muffler, heres some pics. Tomorrow ill finish it off and put some pics of when its done. Heres some more pics of the car, ill update my progress tomorrow, cheers, Jake. Okay so today I got my new muffler. The entry pipe to it is '1 and a half inch' and then it has 2 '2 and a quarter' outlets. So it will go where the old muffler was and have 2 long 2 and a quarter pipes out the back. I havent fitted it yet as I got it a bit late in the day so I will have to wait till I can do it at work tomorrow. Heres a picture of it anyway. Will let you guys know the progress Okay, so, I got my exhaust on, heres the pics, excuse the bad welding but it was my first time welding on exhaust piping, and my third time actually welding haha, but this project is all about learning so here we go: Not sure what my next mod will be, hopefully some new rims if I can find some cheap, good looking ones. Might post some more pics of the car cruising this weekend, cheers
  7. So i figure a 1987 Toyota Mark II SX70 doesnt really belong in the other project threads but seeing as there wont be much happening to it this will do. I bought it in Christchurch on a whim, sight unseen, didnt even get a chance to speak to the guy. But after picking it up, things could be a lot worse. I have done 1000+ kms so far problem free. Gearbox feels good and its pretty straight but not tidy, fairly scratched up. Its getting a cut and polish tomorrow from one of the valet's at work. Ive got the lowering springs from the oldcar waiting to go into it and plans for a modest set of 15's as this is purely for daily duty. But so far i love it.
  8. Hey, My name is Ben Vallance and this is my 1982 GX61 Toyota Corona Mark II I was driving down Memorial Ave in Christchurch and I spotted the old beast for sale on the side of the road. Knowing she had A LOT of potential I quickly contacted the owner who was an old man wanting to sell his beloved family car from which he owned since the car was imported New Zealand new from Japan due to the fact that his eyesight had become impaired and couldn't see well enough to drive... His loss my score! When it came to inspection I brought Rodney a good mate from work with me so we could carefully look over the car for any sign of damage Etc.. Ever heard when its too good to be true then it probably is? Well not in this circumstance, Hey Presto! 188,000 k's on the clock, the Original ownership papers and to my surprise a handbook with documentation of every service, replacement part, hell even when he's changed the water. The Interior Was mint condition with two seat covers that looked like they had been on there since the beginning judging from the amount of lint that had built up in the buttons of the seat. The Outside was Fantastic and after buying it and getting its first full tank of gas I gave it a Full Cut/Polish I plan on doing a few modifications to it over the years I have it. Lists include: -1JZ-GTE Engine conversion and Manual gear box -Tinting the windows -Lowering for the moment is gong to be shortened springs but I would like to have adjustable suspension at some stage -Vinyl leather upholstery for the inside because since owning it I have made 3 burn holes in the seats without even noticing -Looking for a set of rims that would suit it at the moment, any help? -2.5" straight pipe exhaust/ (+screamer pipe when the jz comes) -Full custom carpeted boot Subwoofer enclosure with lid for easy access to the spare wheel -And a whole lot more as I find bits i want to mess around with and restore PROJECT DISCUSSION HERE: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/35902-benvallances-1982-gx61-toyota-corona-mark-ii/ *Photo I took with my friend Max's 1983 Corona Dx
  9. This has been a long time coming. Have finally retrieved the wagon off the old alcoholic geezer down the road. He imported it at 40,000kms and his goal was to do 300,000 in it before he sold it. That's just happened. The body has had a reasonably rough life but that doesn't phase me. I fecking love it. The 1987 Toyota Mark II GX70 wagon! It's heart is a 2y, 1800cc 4cyl manual with 340,000kms on the clock I believe it's a w55 gear box but I'm sure someone will set me strait if I'm wrong! Goals: #Find the old girl a new pair of shoes, I am open to suggestions and offers, if you think you can help me out, I'm an apprentice chippy so I'm not looking to spend heaps! At this stage I think I'll have some 14" stealies widened, pretty deep and tyres stretched to suit. #Slam the old girl,(I didn't know how else to word that but it sounds duuurty) I'm after some help in this area too.... In regard to who to go through, what i need etc! Thanks to anyone who can help. #A new heart.. As much as this engine has done well in its time I would love to replace it for a new slightly faster beating heart. Perhaps a 1ggze, 1ggte, 1jzgte. Again, when the time comes I'm well open to suggestions ideas, advice and most probably some help. Issues: When in reverse or taking off in first gear the car has a hella shudder going on. Issue fixed if clutch is ridden but obviously not ideal. I've checked engine mounts and there fine. What else could this be? Cheers.
  10. Here's my mark II corona, YX76 wagon. Thought I'd start a build thread on it. It's just running a 2Y-J 1800cc right now. Looking to put a 1jz-gte into it. It's got a standard w55 gearbox but other than that I'm gonna replace pretty much everything else - shocks, brakes etc. Right now I need an E series diff for it. If anyone has any idea where I can get one that would be great. Tips on the build would be rad too.
