  1. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49929-pbaines-1985-ae86-corolla-levin/ Well, I have bought myself an AE86 in from Japan. Always wanted a Sprinter Trueno but ended up with a Levin as it costs a lot more for the Trueno (probably 4-5k NZD) but to be honest, after getting this Levin here I am over the moon. As an AE86 always does, there's a bit of rust here and there. It does need a repair cert but the fella i'm dealing with is very helpful so should be good to work with him to get it all sorted. Engine is built to N1 spec, and goes like the clappers! Needs a new CW & P though, as it is massively high strung at the moment and I sit at around 4200rpm at 100k so definitely not ideal at all. As it was in Japan at Stacked (best guys to deal with, highly recommended. Was shipped via AutoHub which was 100% hassle free) THEN It was time to get it on the boat. But not after removing the side skirts and raising the suspension, with the greatest method of adding nuts as spacement. It was on the top of the list to go 'remedy' from the VINZ inspection too Lastly Here is the VINZ inspection sheet.
  2. Discussion Thread Hey guys, My names Marcus, lived in Christchurch for the most and know a few of the Chch OS guys but have recently moved to Auckland. Have been a member for a few years but first time posting one of my projects, since I'm coming to nats this year I figured it was about time I did one on my bucket of bolts. I've had the car since 09' and dailyed it for a couple of years before pulling it off the road from what started with the excuse of " I'll fix that rust and re-spray it something not blue" It was around this time I discovered the T series powered ke35 variant and became hell bent on building a replica, maybe the only one in NZ? Some of this build thread will be out of sequence but I'll do my best to group the areas of the build separate to make it simplier until I get this thread up to date. Here's the car before it got pulled to bits, some of you may recognize it from back in the day, it has the plates SR1978 (Govt. issue fluke not personalized) and was paper certed in 1998 for all the mods it still had when I bought it, It's been a bit of a slut previously, from memory I'm like the 14th owner! Used to see it around all the time before I bought it and in the time I had it on the road I've had at least two people spin me the 'I used to own this car back in the day' yarn haha As I metioned before the car started off with rust work, there was alot of bog filled holes under the paint. Replaced sections of the floor, sills, drivers A pillar and several other area's trying to use cuts out of parted cars where I could to retain factory swages etc. Around this time I also found an obsession with wide 2/3pce japanese wheels and so had a local guy who was good with steel and had played with guards before do some work on them, mainly the rears which were cut from the inside about 20-30mm back from the guard lip to keep the double skin for strength and lifted up for more clearance the re-welded, the guards were also pumped massively to fit some 14x9 F1 racing? (similar to longchamps) that I had at the time, I was super happy with the end result which allowed me to run the wide wheels I wanted but also retained the factory lines which was something I really didn't want to lose.
  3. So a while ago I made a pretty ballsy decision to buy Rhys's (Rhyscar) daily/racecar AE101 basically unseen and drive it just under 1000 kms home. Thankfully things worked quite well and I flew up, bought it and drove it back Queen's birthday weekend. Many thanks to Rhys who offered to pick me up from the airport, gave me a bunch of spares with it as well as info for setting it up/racing and was generally just an all round GC! It was an eventful weekend to say the least though! Featuring a successful Tinder date, two speeding tickets and probably the most uncomfortable drive I've ever done... 8kg springs all round, bugger all suspension travel and the 2 1/2" exhaust left me deafened and crippled when I finally rolled into Wellington about 7 hours after leaving Hamilton. Thankfully I had a mates place to crash at who kindly moved his girlfriend's Peugeot 306 convertible out on the street where it belongs and let me chuck the Levin in the garage for the night Anywho made it all the way home to Christchurch the next day without any issues which was great as I had no tools whatsoever on me! The plan with this thing was to buy something where most of the work had been done and I could just get out there and drive it rather than having something that sits in the garage 11.9 months a year, had to be road legal as I don't have access to a trailer. Rhys has done a pretty sweet job of setting this thing up, current specs are roughly as follows: 1995 AE101 Levin GT Apex Chassis 20v Blacktop 4AGE (A/C removed) 16 row oil cooler and remote filter Honda Civic radiator HKS extractors 2 1/2" stainless exhaust 50mm trumpets Exedy heavy duty clutch GTZ twin pot brakes with Hawk pads Cusco rear swaybar Tein Super Street coilovers Camber plates Relocated lightweight battery Raised shifter Stripped interior with sound deadening removed 16x8s with Achilles ATRs for the road 15x8s with well used Nitto NT01s for the track No real plans to change any of the above, just race it/break it/fix it!
  4. Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48043-pedrac3rs-1985-ae85-levin-discussion/ Hey guys, have been casually browsing these forums for a few years now, thought I would finally sign up and share my AE85 build with you. Ive had the car for about 4 years now, has come long way from when I first picked it up. It wasnt factory spec when I bought it, someone had already swapped a 4AG in there, with a W58 box, hilux diff and some minor suspension and brake upgrades, 14x6.5 and 7.5 SSR MKII wheels, bolt in half cage which had been welded in, a pretty rangi surge tank, some of the rust had been "repaired". Although it was pretty rough around the edges I thought I had myself a fairly well set up car, until I had been driving it for a few weeks and all the problems started piling up... Engine bay after a bit of a clean up. Forgot to mention it had been painted a champagne gold colour. First thing was sorting out the clutch. Was using a 85 pedal box adapted to suit hydraulic clutch, didnt really work, was hard to shift gears and the car would roll forward slowly with it in gear and clutch disengaged. Swapped it out with 86 pedal box from Japan, problem solved. Next problem was the intermitted external fuel pump hooked up to the surge tank. Decided to remove it all run as per factory. While pulling some of the interior out I noticed some of the wiring was pretty rough! Spent a few weeks going over all the wiring and removing a lot of unnecessary wiring and dodgy solder joints, which there were plenty! Ended up with a box full wires! With that mostly sorted, I began on tidying up the rear end a little. Pulled the rear axle out to paint it up, along with a bunch of other stuff, clean up the tubs etc. I had the 4.3 LSD shimmed and went to put everything back together. Getting the bolts through the control arms/diff mounts was a cunt, I figured whoever welded the mounts on the Hilux rear end welded them on the piss so I got the measuring tape out and sure enough, left bottom mount was 20mm out... Would have been causing some serious toe in/out and binding issues. As quick fix I drilled a new hole in the bolt-on traction bracket to correct it. Made the decision to get a proper cage now that the bolt in cage had been removed and it was rolling again. Herbert Fab did the roll cage. I took the chance while the car was away getting the roll cage done to have my rear wheels widened. Wheels are SSR MKII 14x9 at -11 offset. Only did the pair for the rear, and put the 7.5's on the front. Then we had the task of painting the cage. Was a pretty big job prepping and masking everything, but came out pretty good in the end. Looked pretty red there, but once everything was back in it looked okay Ill leave it here for today, will have another update soon!
  5. For discussion on my car, please visit - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48408-scrmntoys-1983-toyota-ae85-discussion/ My AE85 project purchased in April 2015. 1983 Toyota Trueno Sprinter with Levin front end. 187,800km on the clock, only traveled 10,000km since 2004, has been in storage for the last 3 years and owned by previous owner for 8 years. Originally imported to NZ in 1991 to Dunedin. Has been a Dunedin car up until the previous owner moved up to the Bay of Plenty. Plans for the AE85 is to turn it into a nice tidy street car with tasteful mods. So far the hard work has been done and is just a matter of improving on whats already been done and tidying up the panel and paint. 4age 2nd gen bigport with 7 rib block, Factory exhaust headers with free flow exhaust. AE86 2 piece driveshaft and with open diff, rear disc brakes, old owner said said diff is from a celica but unsure of this yet as he wasn't 100% certain Nolothane bushes throughout all suspension components T series box, unsure of what model yet, K-Sport Coilovers, All certed - Also says reinforced rear shock towers on plate 17x7 wheels with spacers (bit too big for car I feel and wrong styling for the error or the car) Came with 13x7 rims aswell. Currently temporarily have put my 15x7 wheels off my AE92 as 17s aren't the best to drive with. Fibreglass bonnet with bonnet pins.
  6. Ive always wanted an ae8# so when this popped up i couldn't resist, towed it home from Auckland. Its a 1983 zenki Levin factory auto but has been converted to manual using a k50. Some more specs: ae86 disc brake rear end ae86 front brakes tokico adjustable shocks all round king springs hahaha 14x6 impul pro mesh lots of speed holes (rust) It came with a t50, rose jointed lower control arms and a few other little bits and pieces. Just before leaving Auckland. (before getting stuck in the wrong lane and heading back over the harbor bridge) Back home. Unfortunately the rego has lapsed so will need a re-vin. More soon. Callum
  7.
