  1. So here we are.. I've been meaning to do this for 3 years or such so ill start from the beginning... I picked this car up at the start of 2019, Scraping every penny i had together for it plus some help. Paying a whopping $2000! Shes a 1987 Holden VL Calais, Series 1. Factory White on Silver two-tone. Madeira red interior. With a dealer fitted 2-way electric sunroof. Powered by the bog standard Nissan RB30E SOHC engine mated to the 4 Speed Jatco Auto trans, The whole lots tired after running down the road 330,000 odd KM's It's in need of some love after sitting since 2010 in a shed. Or possibly a shack.. Hmm A trip to wash world was required before anything else. Gave the exterior a water blast, and though to hell with it ill wash inside the boot to. It was that dirty and had enough drain holes.. Once home I wasted no time ripping it to bits. Having owned enough VL's prior i had some idea what i was doing. But no idea what i was getting myself into. The deeper I dug, the more I came to realize this was no quick tidy up and get back on the road, It was to become a full rebuild. Here are some early stage photos

  3. Hey everyone I've finally managed to convince my old man to give me his commodore to restore and get back on the road where it belongs. its got a bit of rust here and there and is in need of a new paint job so far I've got most of the interior stripped out. I'll update as I go Discussion
  4. Around three years ago i purchased my first project car 1984 VK Commodore 1.9l Starfire Manual The interior was average and paint was pretty shoddy but i picked her up for $1800 so i wasnt expecting much, so the journey begun with bringing the dirty old 4banger up to Tauranga she was NZ new and on 13s with all the hubcaps The guy we bought it off had resprayed it Toll blue from the factory silver and hadn't cut/polished it. Anyways i had no idea what i wanted to do to it, so i started using it as a daily, she developed a bit of a missfire so i cleaned and re-kitted the crappy varajet carby. After this me and my partner moved out of our flat and back to the in-laws spare house... The vacuum hose for the brake booster had split so i had barely any braking assistance while driving back... NOT FUN AT ALL
  5. OK, so this is my first ever project. Fair one, its not a massive job but I dont know much past general maintainance. So its gunna be a steep learning curve for me. I have a pretty mint stock SL/X with a mighty starfire in her. and a VH SL/E donor car with carbureted black 202 in it. My plan is to remove the starfire from my SL/X and install the 202, power steering, brakes, suspension, trans, driveshaft, diff and tacho from the SL/E into my SL/X. The only thing more limited than my car knowledge is my budget, hence me not slapping a V8 or RB30 in it. Have started a project discussion for when my mates cant help and I need advice........might be quite often. Dont get me wrong, i am mechanicly minded and have riden and worked on motorcycles for the past 16 years so im not a complete tard.... but have done very little to cars. Boom, let the show begin. Pics are in the buid thread. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44628-terminal220s-1982-vh-sle-sedan/
  6. OK, so this is my first ever project. Fair one, its not a massive job but I dont know much past general maintainance. So its gunna be a steep learning curve for me. I have a pretty mint stock SL/X with a mighty starfire in her. Exhibit A: I have also just purchased an SL/E that has a carbureted black 202 in it. Exhibit B: My plan is to remove the starfire from my SL/X and install the 202, power steering, brakes, suspension, trans, driveshaft, diff and tacho from the SL/E into my SL/X. The only thing more limited than my car knowledge is my budget, hence me not slapping a V8 or RB30 in it. Have started a project discussion for when my mates cant help and I need advice........might be quite often. Dont get me wrong, i am mechanicly minded and have worked on motorcycles for the past 16 years so im not a complete tard.... but have done bugger all to cars. Disccsion thread is started and the link is below //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44627-terminal220s-1982-vh-sle-sedan/#entry1368578 Boom, let the show begin.
  7. Link to discussion thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36871-shakotoms-1979-hz-kingswood-utility/ This is my 1979 HZ Kingwood Ute. I wasnt really looking for another project car at that moment in time, and I had decided that after buying my VK Commodore I was saving for something American as my next car. But as you all know the best things appear when your not looking for them. Id first laid eyes on her at a swapmeet. I had a quick look over her and thought thats sort of cool, so I had a chat to the seller and got his contact details. And about a month later..... there she was being towed home... It was a long day that day, About 13 hours on the road from leaving home to getting home. I was glad to push her off the trailer and into the garage, She was driveable but supposedly had a broken gearbox. Whenever first was selected a horrible noise would be emitted from the gearbox, but she came with a spare gearbox. so that was alright. Some pictures from the next day: Shes powered by a Mighty RED 202 and had been converted to a 4 speed floor change at some point in her life. So i named her Donna Going by her production options supposedly she has a High Compression engine, and a heavy duty diff with an LSD Pretty much with that we started to strip it apart to swap the gearbox
  8. once again i have acquired another car that is not an austin... (regret that username) BUT never the less this is my new project was a freebee off my mate who is moving to the uk and for some odd reason he though i would like it.... and i think he thinks im the only person who will put work into it. so first things first is WOF and i need >window wipers >lift side steering arm boot ( im think its that rubber thing) >reverse lights (and according to VTNZ its too low but who said i had to go there for wof...) hopefully can get around to it all this weekend, the only thing i dont want to do it the reverse lights because i am terrible with trouble shooting electrical problems so if anyone has any tips for that it would be much appreciated. Plans for this beast includes fixing the front bumper, paint both bumpers gun metal grey, then primer the body because surprisingly its pretty straight and virtually rust free. not planning on spending heaps of money on this so thats why its only getting primer. and also sounds, needs sounds. there are some slight mechanical issues that need sorting too, there is a wicked tap in the engine (well i think its the engine, dad thinks its something else) and it leaks autotrans fluid and diff fluid so ill have to take a look at that too.. anyway thanks guys, update probably after the weekend if i get wof!! >discussion<

  10. LInk to discussion thread: http://oldschool.co....ms-84-vk-mayte/ This is my 1984 VK Commodore, Meet Lana, Shes a four cylinder Commodore. and ill run you through what ive done to her so far I purchased her stock standard on the original 13inch steel wheels! but pretty much the day i got her home i threw on a set of 13x7 Cheviot Hotwires with 205/60 and 215/60R13 tyres My dad and i are members of Manukau Rod and Custom club and not long after i bought her they had a gymkhana coming up at 'Full Throttle' and i wanted to have a go but i though id simply fix the oil leaks first.... And we all know that where that leads... i decided itd be easier to work on out of the car... So oily.. i installed a new hanger bearing on the driveshaft as the old one was perished and got a new clutch dissassembled the motor for new gaskets through out and just a general tidyup and the gearbox... which went from this... to this... then i decided the motor looked too good to go back in the dirty bay and thats when i missed the gymkhana... :] to cut a long story short this was the result... so i drove her around for a while until she got fed up and wanted some attention with so she ate a distrubutior drive gear. so i replaced that Then her hydraulic tappets werent holding pressure. So i replaced those And went to a Gymkhaha! AAAANNNNDDDDD broke a gearbox the next day on the way to work So i replaced that. and then scored some EH Holden hubcaps from a swapmeet and a sunvisor Greg Murphy came into my work so i got a photo with him and Lana And he autographed her dash I made a front lip and added an external cooler... BOSOZUKU LIFE decided the cooler was tacky and that RAKE was way cooler... then went on a road trip on the standard wheels with my girlfriend got these from a swapmeet. ( I see a trend here?) and got these made

  12. Hi all. Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/34636-fbs-gemini/page__gopid__1030017#entry1030017 Got this off Jase. needs a bit of work- the bulk of it will be taken care off by a panel shop. Plan at this stage is fit recaro fishnets (just got a set off tm for cheap) , paint and pannel in factory color and then later down the line holden 308 + bigger diff+ bigger brakes. heres a pic from the day i brought her home. As a temporary measure before i go with wider wheels i'd love to fit a set of mooneye disk hubcaps- the smooth caps like these: Could anyone photoshop those caps onto my car for me? THANKS! Also, anyone in the waikato know of a good (budget priced) auto upholstery store/someone who does it from home? I need the side bolsters on the fishnets repaired/maybe replaced with leather or something. ALSO, I need a new flexplate and good starter to suit this thing. The current flexplate must be worn as hell (and the starters pinion probably is too) ALSO ALSO would love an early 80's head unit for this thing. Tape deck with no CD so I can wire in an AV input. Cheers all!
  13. What a score I had on the weekend.... Right place at the right time got me a very nice ute for a great price... The person I stole... erm bought it from got it cheap and sold it to me cheap. I drove it the 75kms home and the next day all it needed for a WOF was a battery clamp. I have had a wheel alignment done as it was out and didn't want the brand new tyres that were on it wearing premature and bought a new bow thingy for the back to keep the tarp up. A quick wash and this is the beast. Stock 202ci with 3-on-the-tree manual. motor runs quiet and starts easy, I reverse flushed the radiator as it was full of rusty water and will do an oil change and radiator conditioner this weekend and add some wynns. Very Tidy eaxample for its age Even the grill is still in one piece and has Bumper over riders Engine is nice and clean Instruments include Tacho http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g52/kiwigraham/back-1-1.jpg Deck is in very good condition Front tyres still had the dimples on them Back tyres will do for some time too Tarp has some minor holes but is still very strong I could do lots of different things with it but I think I will leave it just as it is and use it as a Ute. If I did decide to change anything it would be to go to an auto to make it drive easier and make it more cruisy, and I have one in the garage too
  14. this is my 1984 holden gemini on tsw pulse's just lowered all round and standard otherwise, only paid 170 for car and 600 for mags with mint tread bit of a steal i thought!
