  1. Hi all, Long time lurker. I brought this car out off Dunedin 2 and a bit years ago, off a friend of mine who id hounded for a while to be able to buy it off him. I brought it Reg on hold, no wof, motor not running, manual swap not quite complete, and the interior in the boot. Car is a Hardtop, with the eagle Mask front end, my favorite combination! A buddy of mine and I drove down, threw it on the trailer and brought it home. Car was originally a 1geu, Auto. It had a 1gge and W57 stabbed into it, but a long way from running. Once it arrived home i reassembled it to see what was missing. A pic form the day i picked it up In the 2 years following that i battled my way through making it run. Someone had REALLY funked up the motor loom, and most of the time was spent chasing that. A few spots of rust were removed, Engine painted and freshened up, engine bay painted (twice god damn it). Interior was re instated, wiring loom tucked, coilovers, bushings, booster delete, proportioning valve, strut brace and eventually a full respray. Among a thousand other jobs December of 2019 the car was certified for everything, luckily it went through with very minor issues. Car as it sits now While in lockdown ive been chasing issues with the factory EFI. I hate this EFI system, it is rubbish. Probably more of an issue because of the muppet who tried to fix the loom for the owner before me, but none the less its been a nightmare. So to cure it, ive started collecting the parts to do a full conversion to side draft carbs. Triple webers seem to be the answer in my mind anyway. Thats all for now, ill detail some of the process in future updates, and specifically the carb conversion. Thanks!
  2. Yo OS. Thought I'd post up here as it's the last electrical issue with my engine swap and I genuinely do not see an easy fix. I've done the entire swap and everything is tickety-boo generally. The car before the swap was a GX61 Cresta Super Lucent: 1G-EU (AFM) and factory W57 5 speed. I swapped into it a 1G-GEU (MAP) bluetop from an automatic GA70 Supra. I retained the W57 As I've wired the check engine lamp correctly, I can get error codes (yay). The issue I have is the car throws a code 42 which is: The symptoms for code 42 are a forced limp mode after ~4000 rpm (can feel it cutting fuel), not good. To me, this makes sense as the factory 1G-EU ECU does NOT have a ECU pin for "SPD". Clearly, there is an open circuit for the pin SPD which feeds the ECU a signal telling the ECU how fact the car is moving. in a 1G-GEU, the pin: "SPD" receives an electrical signal from the dash cluster I believe. My question is, without SPD in the 1G-GEU ECU getting a signal from the dash cluster, is there anyway to prevent it tripping a code 42? I've done some basic trouble shooting such as: Grounding SPD pin (obviously a fail); checking the factory GX61 dash harness plug to engine harness for extra pins which may be SPD (to no avail). Has anyone had experience with swapping a car that required an electric speed signal to the ECU where the factory dash loom did not have the provision for it?
  3. Yo OS, I'm having a go at making this lockdown productive, but i've hit a wiring wall.. Recently performed an engine swap into one of my cars and of course I've reach the wiring dilemma. The swap is: Full 1986 GA70 1G-GEU (Bluetop MAP sensor) & Auto trans into a... 1986 GX71 Cresta Super Lucent (Factory Map sensor 1G-EU & auto). The engine is a 100% runner (had it running myself 1 day prior to pulling it) The Supra was 100% complete and I've used: Engine loom (uncut and NOT damaged) Trans ECU All accessories Everything has been plug and play, however, I understand that the 1G-GE won't run without some (repinning?) wiring work in the 1G-E Cresta. I did try start the car knowing it wouldn't fire, however the starter motor constantly triggered once the key was turned to ON (even before getting to start). As it sits complete now. . . There are TWO remaining plugs not used currently. One of them (pic below) is attached to the 1G-GEU engine loom and does not have a mate on the GX71 body loom. On the GA70 supra, the other end of the plug goes straight to the fuse box. . . The second plug not used is attached to the body loom of the GX71 and is a yellow 6 pin plug. on the factory 1G-EU engine loom, the other end of this plug is present. We continuity tested this plug on the 1G-EU engine loom and it went to 1G-EU ECU pins: BATT; +B; +B1. . . . . Has anyone had any experience with twincam 1Gs into single cam bodies? I have done a bit of a search on here and found some helpful stuff, however most stuff is for other chassis / example and I'm having trouble correlating tips / troubleshooting to my car. Any help or advice on here would be hugely appreciated. Cheers,
  4. Discuss - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38319-be4vers-gx61-mark-ii/ Welcome to my newest project! the story goes like this..... in ashburton this past weekend was the street sprints and as it happens a fella for surfab was there taking some sweet pics which i saw pop up on facebook as i was flicking through them i came across this one here this is looking through the back gate of the local wreckers. If you look hard you can see the front of a fairly tidy looking gx61. so i thought I MUST INVESTIGATE! so i did today cos i forgot until just this afternoon and it was pretty dam tidy! 117kms almost no rust and looks like it was reg n wofd till just last month! but then i saw this on the window and my heart dropped fuck! so i raced round and found the manager and told him i had to take it away asap before it was destroyed. Scored it for $450 so im pretty stoaked! unfortunately its deregistered but thats no biggie the main problem is this bit dosent work! havent looked into it yet but it sounds pretty low in compression and its pressurising the radiator haha. Hoping for a fucked headgasket heres the rest of the car the only rust i can find pretty happy with that! plans at this stage will be to get it going (weather its repair or new engine), revin, and criuse. Then lots of lowness and wide as wheels and fender mirriors. and 5 speed would be cool but not too worried. chances are if the engine is toast i'll be very tempted to go down the JZ road Discuss - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38319-be4vers-gx61-mark-ii/

Planning to put that in soon after WOF. has been off the road for around 2years due to laziness. WOF booked for Wednesday and should be attending local meets asap. chur! cid:AC17DDFC-9BA6-4844-9CB7-2D7C4C20C7EB/20140704_124904_resized_1.jpg cid:56FAE128-83C9-48C0-A9C4-04A3D42616A2/20140704_124835_resized_1.jpg cid:FF751CAB-E4D1-49A2-AF62-23C5C11E300B/20140704_124811_resized_1.jpg. 7. Hey, My name is Ben Vallance and this is my 1982 GX61 Toyota Corona Mark II I was driving down Memorial Ave in Christchurch and I spotted the old beast for sale on the side of the road. Knowing she had A LOT of potential I quickly contacted the owner who was an old man wanting to sell his beloved family car from which he owned since the car was imported New Zealand new from Japan due to the fact that his eyesight had become impaired and couldn't see well enough to drive... His loss my score! When it came to inspection I brought Rodney a good mate from work with me so we could carefully look over the car for any sign of damage Etc.. Ever heard when its too good to be true then it probably is? Well not in this circumstance, Hey Presto! 188,000 k's on the clock, the Original ownership papers and to my surprise a handbook with documentation of every service, replacement part, hell even when he's changed the water. The Interior Was mint condition with two seat covers that looked like they had been on there since the beginning judging from the amount of lint that had built up in the buttons of the seat. The Outside was Fantastic and after buying it and getting its first full tank of gas I gave it a Full Cut/Polish I plan on doing a few modifications to it over the years I have it. Lists include: -1JZ-GTE Engine conversion and Manual gear box -Tinting the windows -Lowering for the moment is gong to be shortened springs but I would like to have adjustable suspension at some stage -Vinyl leather upholstery for the inside because since owning it I have made 3 burn holes in the seats without even noticing -Looking for a set of rims that would suit it at the moment, any help? -2.5" straight pipe exhaust/ (+screamer pipe when the jz comes) -Full custom carpeted boot Subwoofer enclosure with lid for easy access to the spare wheel -And a whole lot more as I find bits i want to mess around with and restore PROJECT DISCUSSION HERE: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/35902-benvallances-1982-gx61-toyota-corona-mark-ii/ *Photo I took with my friend Max's 1983 Corona Dx
