  1. Discuss here -//oldschool.co.nz/index.php?showtopic=47657 Hey Boes So some of you might have seen this when i posted it in the "Left to rot" thread, well I have acquired it and after I pick it up on easter weekend it will start undergoing the reversal of the rotting process, I just really want to prevent it from completely disappearing into the ground. Some of you may give me copious amounts of shit for taking this on as it is very very rusty, but at the end of the day it owes me very little, is a genuine mk2 1600 sport with plates dead but still in the system, and the fact that these are getting very very thin on the ground now. I have a mig, panel steel, access to donor escorts, a father in law who has been building escort rally cars for the last 30 years and most importantly, a wife that loves mk2 sports (because going up with a co driving in). So yea this is going to be a pretty slow build as finances are being directed to honeymooning and house renovations, but luckily there is a whole butt tonne of work to go into this that will require much more time than money. Thank god for palmside and their aftermarket panels anyway. Plans may change but at this stage it is restore body, worked zetec conversion on twin 45's or bike carbs running Nodiz ignition, undecided at the mo but possibly forest flares with wide arse 13" rims, build for fast road so it can be fanged on hillclimbs and clubsport events as well as being fanged to the dairy. Anyway what you all want to see, some pictures of a rusty arse escort.....
  2. I've been looking for ages and many can confirm I'm a fussy bugger but finally found my original untouched 1600 sport. Car is in original condition so there are many little jobs to do to get it back to full glory, Ill endevour to keep you all updated, but for now check out the pics. I have also moved to Napier now so big shout to all the OS boys and girls down here give us a shout. Made the mistake of putting 91 in but quickly remedied the knocking
  3. seems there is a bit of an Escort van thing going on, so here are a few pics of mine, that I bought this week. Has a 2.0 Pinto and type 9 5 speed, and goes pretty much like you would expect one to (now that it gets full throttle and not just the half it had!) Someone has spent a lot of money on it (not me for a change) and it is quite a nice old thing to drive. Thinking about panelling over side windows, and converting to "proper" panel van. Not sure I am sold on the 14" Minilite replicas though. I think I like these old 13x7 Cheviot Tridens with BFG's better, for a bit of 70's style bling! Longer term plan is to fit Mk1 bubble arches, and 15x8 Miniltes. Also sport quarter bumpers, and a couple of big Cibie driving lights. And basically anything else that you did to an old 2.0 Escort!! 4. Hey guys, I've decided the next thing my car needs is a better carb. It's a 1300 mkII escort currently with the stock carb. I'm planning on eventually dropping in a 1600 so don't want to get too carried away now, but could definitely do with a bit more power and a carb seems like a cheap and easy upgrade which could eventually bolt onto the new engine to begin with. I've done a bit of research and it seems that a Weber 28/32 or a 32/36 is probably my best bet. Anyone got any advice on this? Do I need a new manifold, or could I get an adaptor milled up to bolt onto the existing one? If I do need a new manifold, is just any crossflow Weber downdraught setup suitable or do I need a certain type? I was hoping to spend somewhere in the region of $200-$300, is this a realistic figure? If anyone has anything suitable for sale pm me please. Any guidance or tips would be awesome.
  5. this is how i got it, i did some work on it for the old owner a couple of years ago and have finally talked him into selling it, going to change the front back to a escort round lght Discussion Thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/23879-esky-73-new-toy-mk1-escort/?hl=esky

  7. Exscuse the story but background reading rules: So here i was somewhere around 2 years ago when i joined os contemplating pulling my mk1 escort off the road for the full on rebuild with 6 link and adj susp and 200hp xflow and shit and i was going to need a daily driver. so i thought how about a escort wagon they look sweet. i knew of where there was one that could be had for cheap so after a very short time saving i went out and bought it. initial plans were to use it as a daily so i thought id rebuild the 1300 with my 1100 pistons stick my mild cam and webber on it with a set of my extractors a sierra box for economy dump it on some minilites with a home job paintjob and some sounds. cheap and easy and a sweet daily. insert workmate whos been f#$king with cars for years. just put a pinto in it ffs 200hp is way easier out of a pinto and the boss has got a couple of sc-14s upstairs you could get one for cheap and supercharge it for a real easy 200hp. me = i wanna keep the mk1 x-flow but the wagon could get a pinto... so anyways bought the blower and while reasearching shit on manifolds etc and talking about hp the idea i could maybe have 250hp out of the blown pinto made me quite excited. and maybe a lil hp hungry so then it was suggested that it would be "easier" to turbo efi the pinto and possibly cheaper for the same hp... yeah right everyone here said hard to do real expensive etc so i thought fuck it as id decided i wanted 250 hp that was that id use a diff engine at this point alistar made like 190kwatw out of a 4agte and that was that i had to have one 18psi and anitlag and xternal sounds fucken sweet. anyways i have to scan in the pics from before i started pulling it apart but we started like this poos arse 1300 out poos arse 4spd escort box out empty escort engine bay http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3830 ... db65a9.jpg sweet lowering springs starting to pull interior apart
  8. Yep this is my first car i no its a bit late but i was holding out for somthing special and here it is a mkll escort wagon the engine is a 4age tvis bluetop all certed. 9. Just thought Id share a couple of pics of my sisters freshly restored mk1 escort. Been on the build for 3 or so years and is now finished and on the road. I did the panel and paint for her ( good ol' big brother eh ) and runs a 1600, weber, headers, cam etc. Everything is either brand new or reconditioned. Owes her a fair bit but well worth it I say. She chose the colour Wild Plum since she saw my xa gt and loved the colour and her escort had to be painted that colour. Cheers, Brendon

  11. Well here is my mk1 esocrt! after our big trip to blenheim we bought her back on the trailer we investigated further and found more rust. e.g. floor an, both guards, wheelarchs, and sill. Finally i sent her of to the pannel beaters and she is currently rust free and bogged in the shed. Any suggestions on the colour a very much wellcome as i have no idea as of yet. lol. I have striped the engine and am currently rebuilding it now. I plan to convert the front struts and steering collumn to hte mk2 disk breaks and chuck in a booster in there to. will keep photos ubdated. Next job put the engine back together and put the new struts and and get it painted! Not sure if i should paint it my slef or get a profesional to do it! your thoughts?
  12. Hey everyone have been a member for a couple years now but never really posted all that much so i thought i mite finally show off my pride and joy. Its a 1972 escort that i have owned since mid 2002 and is my first car. HAha I bought it mostly standard apart from tha paint job who the previous completed as he was a panel beater. Since ive owned it me and dad have lowered it on mk2 esky front struts with compressed springs and two inch blocks, its running 4 pot princess callipers on ventilated capri rotors and 13 x 7 hotties. The engine is a 711M block with a lightened and balanced bottom end bored out to 1700cc, 1300 pistons, ported and polished head, kelford cam and 40mm dellorto sidies. Its also running a dellow bellhousing and t50 gearbox converted to cable clutch. Sorry bout the ave photo it was on my cell phone.... Future plans are tidy up the body, suspension and cage it plus buckets seats mayb so will hopefully post more soon
  13. NOTE TO NEWBS: No posting in users project threads. The place to post is their Project disccusion thread... here is the one to this project... http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewto ... 42&start=0 Brought it as a padock hack for $70.00 Converted it to round headlights with some other gaurds and gave it a quick primmer paint ready for a VIN. mmm new plates. Here it is soon after i got it. New primmer I then changed the 1300 to a 1600kent and put mk2 sport discs and adjustable suspension in and brought some new wheels. Sounds and GTX seats. New Wheels Got sick of the old Kent and went for a 2lpinto with a slight cam, rejetted carb and an exhaust system. The old girl could now leave decent rubber marks.... Time for a new paint job and sent it into the shop for a 6month metal spray in a custom silver/blue/gold/ pearl. Also changed the seats to SiR bucket seats. In painters Finished. Decided the 2l needed to go or a turbo bolted on so started sourcing parts and reaserching for pinto turbo. After a few months changed plan and decided that the turbo pinto was not quite enough power for me. I have now decided to take the car of the road for a year or two and do the mother of all conversions a SR20det. Have started to buy parts for this conversion and have a mechanic all lined up. Will keep you all updated as i get the car out of the garage and into the workshop to be sliced and diced.
  14. Hello everybody, writing from SENEGAL in west africa. I have just found in an automobile breakage this escort MK1 4 doors. Each one has its project and me for the fun of it I will try to remake it to roll with any means I have . All the difficulty in this rebuilt will be the lack of parts for this car. As much in Europe or anywhere else it is easy, here in senegal that will be real struggle at least impossible. Then do not be suprised to see certain things which will occur during this restoration... occurs what will be able...

  16. Since i am new i thought i would post my plans for the old escort. It is a 1974 MK1 1300l It was on trademe for a long time and eventually i went for it and bought it off an old lady down in whakatane! absolutely mint condition 1300 AUTOMATIC ohhhh yea bigger trans tunnel That same day we detoured to Otorohunga and picked up: the good old 2 litre Sierra 205 mill along with Celica 5 speed box bell housing to fit sierra 1 piece drive shaft diff and diff housing from sport model radiator extractors holey fuel pump and regulator and all ignition and components to get it to run apart from intake and lines and cables The block has been bored 40thou i think ported head new rings and bearings and reconditioned alternator! and all for $2100 and not run at all! So at the moment shes on stands taking up our whole garage and i am stripping all parts as i am putting on bubble guards and respraying in the near future will keep you posted on progress with body work!

  21. This car, i bought for $180 when i was 15, and thrashed around an orchard for a week, then parked it up. 3 years later (now) i decide i need a daily, so the escort has steped up from being an eyesore on the front lawn of one of the rentals, to being my gangsta daily ride. plans: fix all rust, theres a lot. keep primered. lower it hard. chuck a set of mags on it. keep it all legit, whilst retaining its rugged look. i plan to not spend much time/money on this, reason being i want a car that i dont care about so much, which i can park dodgy places/ let people sit on the bonnet without having a fit etc etc
  22. Will Update as I progress... first things first I want to get rid of the purple! anone know or good painters in Auckland? I want to get a good job done... Now for the cool part - BLACK WITH A YELLOW BATMAN SYMBOL ON THE BONNET!! Thought I would be different! Im also hunting round for a Sierra gearbox, if anyone can help me out ild be happy! Lastly, if anyone has a garage I could rent around the North shore, or within half an hour, that would be great. I live on a Navy base, so its hard doing anything serious to the car in the middle of a car park! Like I said, ill update as I progress.
  23. Thought I'd finally start a thread as im turning this into a bit more of a project than just a daily. Known by all my mates as "the scrot", I bought it in april 2003, one owner since new, fairly tidy apart from a couple of dents and some minor surface rust, interrior was mint, engine ran... Got her home and gave her the cleaning of a lifetime Found out that the airfilter was still in its cardboard packaging and the old 1300 engine was running richer than Bill Gates. It probably didnt help that I'd only recently got my licence, we had alot of fun doing stupid things in this car haha, but one night mission I was chugging along and noticed a rather loud knock, I'd rooted the big ends. I intended on rebuilding the 1300 but once we got it apart it was looking to be a rather expensive task, new pistons and bore the block, head was stuffed etc etc. Found a 1600 for $150 and came with extractors, weber carb and manifold and a spare crossmember-turned engine stand, score So rebuilt the 1600, did simple things like new rings, gaskets, ghetto valve grind etc, bearings looked ok so left them... Got a 28/36 weber off a mates dad who reckoned they were a better carb than the 32/36 I got with the engine, so put that on, stock exhaust manifold for awhile due to not being able to weld the extractors on. Went way harder than the little 1300 used to, could drive anywhere without running into steep hills Needed new tyres so got all new wheels instead, $400 thanks trademe. old new Had to take a strut out after failing a warrant and found out I had monroe gt gas shocks in the front, so when I saw some matching rear ones on trademe for $40 I thought I'd get them. Went to raglan for a day, lots of coolish places to take photos... Put an electric fan in, trademe again, $70 Next thing must have been exhaust, had a muffler split open so Got two coby resonators and some 2" pipe and a mate helped make up a new system, including the extractors this time. Seem to have lost the phots but its nice and straight apart from the one smooth curve over the diff. Its nice and high under the rear of the car and doesnt hang out like some of the rice cannons you see, not deafening but still roars when you floor it, so I was happy. Raced around Taupo with it like this, did about a 1.05 on an incredibly wet track, great fun Got some new Brembo discs as my old ones were warped and undersize and had various other problems, Bendix Metal King Plus pads, stops alot better now A year of thrashing later I was getting slightly bored of it, wanted something different, was looking at a few options but anything newer was quite expensive and another oldschooler I would have to go through all the same kind of repairs as I had already done on the escort, so Ive decided to keep the car and do a few more things to it First up, I could recently hear the faintest knock when you put your head under the bonnet, so rebuild time... again. New bearings and possibly even a cam grind... I started on it yesterday. how the engine looked after I'd stripped a few things off my two helpers ran out of height on the lifter unit and had to use mang power no engine... ...oh there it is and all nice and tidy ready for the next effort Looking at getting a double swaybar or something to lessen body roll, and some stiffer front springs, do something to the rear springs, and put another diff in, which I picked up the other night, as my one was on its way out. Got a dished steering wheel, on the lookout for a bucket seat of sorts. Want it to be a bit more competitive so I will eventually be able to use it for trackdays and rally events Thats all I can think of for now, mean
