  1. Discussion thread: G'day team OS, Owning an E30 in my youth meant we made terrible mistakes in usernames, but now getting close to being thirty, I guess its kinda fitting. Maybe, just make better choices when choosing usernames. Anyways.... We thought it was a fantastic idea alongside having a half completed Mini Clubman (a project, but legal and runs well. Just looks like a POS) and just having a newborn that we buy another longer term project car. In consultation with my better half of course, we bought a rego on hold, primed shell of a KP Starlet because you know, we naively thought there would be time to take on a project like this. Its arrived with all the interior bits floating around, about 3 different cut up body looms in a rubbish bag and some other extras. No running gear. Most the rust has been cut out hence the primer. The big sell was, it is a live shell and certed for a 4AGE & modified suspension. All we needed to do was source the running gear and we'd be in business? Famous last words. As it sat on the PO's driveway (Note: didnt come with the wheels pictured). Gregg was an absolutely great guy to deal with, have still kept in touch for bits and pieces. He owns a VERY well built turbo 4AGE KP now. After a quick discussion over a pie out at a lovely beach in Beachlands with my very good Toyota Century owning friend, I decided to take the plunge. The plan was to borrow our builder's car trailer and head up the following weekend out East to collect it. Its at this point im glad I had a Triton with a towbar, as I dont think our new glued together Haval would be capable. The following weekend, we drive down. Load up. Lose my hi viz along the road, but we make it back home. The Mini got reshuffled and here it is sitting in what will be its new home for the foreseeable and unforeseeable future. Boxes of parts. Mini: KP: I've always loved these. Prior to looking for a KP, I was keen on an Imp but they were either too far gone or just unable to be made road legal. I prefer the slant front, however the flat front has grown on me especially while following Ritchie's built which is somewhat a source of inspiration (this wont get to that level of build, but we can all dream). The idea was to build something road legal we could use on autocross/grasskhana/skid pan type events and not worry too much about breaking it. As always, my goals arent ever to make much power, its about reliability more than anything. Plus I could live out my dream of having fender mirrors and small Japanese wheels. Mainly documenting so its online for all the bits and pieces I couldn't find too much information on in the hopes it helps someone along the way. Build Overview: 4AGE 16v with ITBs, COP T50 22 Spline gearbox MaxxECU Street Standard diff (although have a good lead on a T Series) T Series RA29 diff Stripped out but tidy interior Reinstate half cage (Can see where the old one was due to the foot plates) Recaro Fishnets Generally put the thing back together
  2. hey folks. i'm pretty new to oldschool, been around a few other places people might recognize me from so thought i'd chuck up a thread of where i've got to with my car and see what OS thinks. plan is to keep it road legal so i can still drive it to uni all week, then to the track and home on the weekend. eventual plan is to do targa with the old man. this thing just loves windy roads, almost as much as i do. and thats probably the sole reason i haven't moved on to another car. had this for almost 4 years now. most of the progress has happened in the last year after attending a few track days then started thinking 'shit this is cool!'. have been a uni student studying engineering the whole time i have owned this car so has all been done on a very tight budget and all done myself. this is how it started; 4afe, single pot brakes, shit arse respray, jamex springs (laugh) went through and modded the 4afe a bit and also put koni adj. shocks etc in until i got to the point where i needed to do things properly. so went on a big money spending mission wired in a blacktop with c56 LSD gearbox. added oil cooler and custom extractors to get it a bit better race prepared. oil temps were getting up towards 140deg after track sessions. works nicely with my massive airbox converted to discs all round and big 275mm rotors with twin pot brakes on the front running TRD black pads i scored super cheap. then decided to do it properly with a cage and racetech seats and harnesses. still daily driven and love every minute of it! recently smashed the clutch to pieces at manfield. got a TRD clutch for 30bux and replacing syncro's in gearbox so no more curnchy crunch. hoping to get it all back together this weekend in time to get the suspension a bit better sorted with stiffer springs and HUGE rear swaybar in anticipation of winter series coming up. hoping to do all of the manfield rounds if money permits/nothing goes bang. let me know what you think. hopefully will meet a whole bunch of GC's at nats for mean yarns!
  3. 1972 toyota corolla ke25 Japanese assembled sl coupe Bit of a summary of a ke25 project I brought on the 1st of April 2023 Rego on hold last wof 2004 Turbo beams swap had been started and heaps of new parts Was a very tidy car before the previous owner had started It in 2019 https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/89198-1972-toyota-corolla-sl/
  4. Long time stalker, first time poster. So I brought this NZ new 1983 KP60 Starlet back in August, and will be giving it a spruce up over the next 2 years. The end goal is to do the MG classic meeting at Manfeild in November 2020. I’m only the 5th owner, the first 3 being old ladies and the last being an older guy that had it for 20 years, so it is all original with a genuine 408,000km on the clock. still on the original 2K, but it’s pretty tired.

  6. Discussion: https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/57479-hyperblades-kp61-racecar-beams61-discussion/ Moving over my project from the club-k forums to make it a bit more public for those interested. So it started when I brought this 1984 Toyota Starlet Racecar, I wanted something I could drive to the track, while still being safe during racing, hence the roll cage. It came with a 2L Altezza 3SGE BEAMS engine with the 6 Speed box, already in it and a really good build history from the original owner. Sale thread here has some more details: https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38220-fs-1981-kp61-starlet-race-car-certifed-homologated/ More to come...
  7. After spending quite some time reading posts of other people's vehicles - I figured it was time that I got my shit together and posted my rusty junk up for the world to see. After developing an unhealthy penchant for 1969 - 1970 Toyota Crown's some time back, I have seemingly added a hobby to the list of hobbies - collecting Crowns. As was told to me after finding my first - 'You can't have just one!' - the collection has grown. The latest, being this RS56 Ute.... This old girl is the latest addition to the fleet, which currently comprises of 1 x MS55 Sedan and 2 x MS51 coupes (separate threads to be generated for those at a later date.....) Anyways. I get a message from a guy I have bought from before, and the conversation basically went like this; Him: 'Want to buy a Crown Ute?' Me: 'Yes'. It was made known up front that the vehicle was pretty rough, and that a sedan 'half cut' was available at a reasonable extra cost to support with rust repairs. And so it was done. Photos were sent after the agreement was made which did little to curb my enthusiasm. All collected one slightly miserable weekend. Stoked as. Of all the Crown shapes, the 50 series really do it for me. Of all the 50 series body types - the ute really gets me rigid. Once I got it home (and made some space in the shed) it didn't take long to work out just what shape it was in.... Uhhhhhhhh...................... Oh well. I sorta knew what I was getting myself into - so carried on regardless. All in all, the front half of the cabin is..... garbage. But that's why I purchased the front cut of the sedan. Beers were had, and plans formulated. *EDIT* Page of discussion here:
  8. So I have made a spur of the moment purchase as we all do and this was one of the results, something I've always wanted a short wheelbase fj40 These have become increasingly harder to find especially in Western Australia and when you do its like finding a large gold nugget for one that's in actual drivable condition. It's barely been driven in the last two years as the guy I bought it off got it to drive around, two weeks later he had a bike accident and lost his leg so he wasn't allowed to drive any manual vehicles which really sucks. Awesome guy pretty down to earth moving abroad and he just couldn't use it. He mentioned about 6 people have wanted to look at it all businesses wanting to sell it off for more money but wanted it to go to someone who actually might appreciate it for more than its monetary value. And as you do, I let him actually take it for a spin before he handed the keys over which he thoroughly enjoyed even after I accidentally said give it the stick. So we drove it back about 2-3hrs had no issues expecting the small fuel tank that's basically the base of your seat to need refilling for the small Australian price of $2.15 per liter. Ordered some custom number plates for that authentic show off factor and started to look at the issues I've gotten myself into. For starters the speedo/odometer isn't working - ordered a new one even tho I played around with it and semi had it working, But not worth the hassle. general wear and tear around the body, surface rust etc. nothing to major couple small bubbles and holes around indicator stalks and rear door seal otherwise body is tidy relay that connects the horn and I'm assuming other bits and pieces doesn't work and also fell apart in my hand. Seems hard to find an 80a relay these days. Attempted to put it in 4wd to do a beach run after having to replace every fitting on the air compressor to work, one of the hubs doesn't engage/disengage might need greasing actually putting it into H2, H4 and L4 seems a bit of a mission will probably be the major issue then just bits and pieces for quality of life as it will be more of a daily driver than anything else. Has a list of mods just some quality of life things like a custom box with power, usb, led strips and lights throughout the cab and rear. 9500lb winch, rear air locker, 3inch lift, very much so larger tires which are all near on brand new. Sound system and some add on gauges. completely rebuilt 2F original engine with a 3F head fitted Already replaced the front indicator park light stalks, new door cards on the way among other bits light light covers so they aren't split and faded to the point its only white light. that's it for now, ill slap the discussion thread at the bottom. enjoy some pics I've snapped so far Logo's 1971 Toyota FJ40 Discussion - Project Discussion - oldschool.co.nz

  10. Hey peeps, About 6 years after selling "Lil Blu" my 18RG swapped 1966 RT40 Shovelnose Corona in the Gold Coast (waayyyy to cheap), and moving back to NZ - and long after giving up on ever having another one. I found this little gem for sale on FB marketplace. A 1967 (seems more like a '66 to me, but that's how it's tagged) Toyota Corona RT40 for $2k. This thing has been stripped back, and a fair bit of work has been started prepping it for paint. Unlike my previous one, the body on this thing is pretty straight - no rust in the doors, guards have already been patched (properly) and there's just a couple of holes in the floor both driver and passenger side. The best part about this, is that it's 3 on the tree - no 2 speed "toyoglide" sloshbox, so the boat mooring will remain in place under the bonnet. The rego has lapsed, but it's still got the plates, and still on Carjam - so hoping not too much fuss. Rough plan is: find a bonnet (more on this later), weld up rust holes (floor, under battery, front of drivers sill where guard bolts on), tidy up underneath (check brake lines etc), paint (myself - why not? If Spank Diddy can do it...), new seals all round, upholstery (it's properly stuffed), put it back together and re-vin - then creep around the place - low & slowwww. Will hiff some more photo's off my phone shortly - see the little beast loaded up on a trailer & pic of lil blu for nostalgia - I've well and truly caught the corona virus again Chur discuss:
  11. Discussion thread First build thread so am still working out website. Hope everyone enjoys and feel free to add comments as am still learning so much about these crowns. Earlier in the year I had purchased my first toyota crown. I've been a long time toyota fan building them and playing with them since I was 16 (8 years ago). I brought it off a fella in Christchurch and coincidentally had a week off work at the time. So I spent the next week getting the thing a wof as it hadn't had one in 10 years. Its a mettalic blue Ms83 crown wagon. Rough around the edges but it ran, it drove and it had no rust. I brought it for 4.8k with the reg on hold. I suppose I should have knocked some cash off my offer but I've been a massive crown wagon fan for ages so I just payed the asking and picked it up the next night.
  12. Hmmm, back with a Oldschool project. It's driving starlets sideways that got me into drifting, there has been a lot of starlet shenanigans going on of late so the proverbial bullet has be bitten When this kp61 sprint rolling body popped up for cheap. I had a couple of motor options in mind and within the week I found Chris EURON8 had a complete set up from an altezza that needed moving on. So no Hesitation, in it went! Hack the tunnel and firewall Shove it in Cowl all in place Had some cultures come in at work so took the dry ice home and chipped out the sound deadner the more I look through my parts the more I realise I don't need to buy. Should be a rather cheap and cheerful build
  13. Well I've been on here for quite some time, but haven't gotten around to doing a build thread, so here goes, at last, not that I've been that good at taking pics! Way back in the mid 90's, when I was a teenager looking for my first car I fell in love with the many Celica XX that cruised the streets of Auckland. I looked, and looked, and looked for ages to try and get one, initially just manual 2.8's then considered autos, 1G's turbos and even the poxy SOHC 2.0, but they all had a killer combination of being relatively expensive, and rusty! As a first time car owner, with a Dad who wasn't in the least bit mechanically minded it was a bit too daunting. So eventually I gave up, and ended up with an ST162 Celica, which served me well. In all honesty it was probably a better and more suitable car at the time in many regards. Fast forward a good few years, and in 2011 I came into a bit of money and thought to myself that I'd like to get a "toy". So I started considering my options. I was working at Nissan New Zealand at the time, so thought about a Silvia, or 180SX, considered a Skyline etc, but I kept coming back to two cars that I'd always loved, the ST205 Celica GT-Four, and the MA61. I'd sort of kept an eye on MA61's showing up on Trademe over the years, and thought about buying one in the past, but the timing was never really right. Anyway, I'd found a GT-Four that I liked, and an MA61, so it took a bit of deciding. The GT-Four had fairly high mileage, but looked a little tidier than the MA61. Well, in the end I decided to go for the MA61, and scored her for NZ$5500, after getting a little more carried away with the bidding than I probably should have. The next problem was that it was at the other end of the country. This was a drawcard for the purchase however, as it was in Alexandra, very appealing for a rust prone car. So I got her shipped up, and went to pick her up. Did I mention I'd bought her sight-unseen? She was a little rougher then I expected. I could see from the pics online that she'd need a serious cut and polish at least, and figured she may need a repaint. Well, when I had a good look I could see that both sides had had repairs and been repainted at some point, and she was a number of different shades of red. There was also a patch of filler lifting in the RH quarter, which wasn't really mentioned in the ad, but I didn't let that worry me too much, I figured that I'd just bring my plans for a repaint forward. So here's how she looked when I got her: More to follow soon, as those who have seen her know, she don't look quite like this any more. Discuss here if you wish : //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44250-styles-1982-toyota-celica-xx-28gt-discussion/
  14. Picked up a AA60 coupe. Girl friend promptly named it something girly ha It's pretty dam tidy with very little rust. I made s point of pulling plait off to feel around and it's pretty sweet. Motor runs mint, clutch would have been done not long ago, interia all there and good con, coupe little strainers here and there. Full digital dash 3A T50 (22 spline I'm told) Small axel One very open diff And a truck ton of body roll. Will be left standard for a while. Plans of SSR mk3's New fixed shock and spring combo all round to get it low and stiff Lock diff or LSD And swap the 4agze out of my aw11 into it once the 7A finally goes in //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/52439-ashs-a6-carina-coupe-lyfe/
  15. Bought R100s Ke70 wagon for use as a daily. Very nice, close to no rust. Basically mint. Picked it up on the weekend using a quite fancy towing rig I borrowed from a friend (Who has been using it for 20 years without fail). Would have used an actual trailer but my mum's Rav can't handle it and my friend's truck was being used to move house. So we got the car onto the tow rig: And the tow rig was working great! Until... Disaster Struck!: One of the tires popped while towing. We didn't notice for a solid couple of minutes and as of that not only was the fender dented back, wires pulled out and bumper broken but the rim is also absolutely destroyed. So we chucked on one of the back wheels, taped the wiring to the car, and went on our merry way... Then that popped too. And it popped a lot sooner than the other tire. Meaning that we were scared. Not only because 2 of the tires popped, I mean, how often does that happen? But the car also had only 1 spare tire, R100, lent out the spare tire and never got it back, lol. Second flat also destroyed what was left of the bumper end cap AND pulled out the wiring we had taped to the side. And with pulled out I mean that the wiring is absolutely gone. Nothing is left. Anyway, we chucked on the last tire and drove into Taupo (30ish ks away from where we had the last blowout) and we left the car with some friends for the time being: Kinda sad story. Hoping to pick up the car soon. Meanwhile buying some stock ke70 wheels so I can get the car onto trailer. Then need to find someone in Napier with a ke70 to check what all the wiring is that I am missing. Also want to buy right end cap for my front bumper, lol. Discussion, for if anyone has any tips.
  16. Discussion thread :https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/60328-a-dogs-83-toyota-starlet-kp61/ Hello Gents, I have been watching this forum for a while to gather helpful information on this little project car I have. Being in America it is very hard to find parts and proper information on modifying starlets. So here I am to pick your brains for all the great Starlet knowledge you all have. The plan for this little guy is to compete in Auto Cross at the local level. I already have a 240SX drift car, So now I can use this as a grip car. THE BACK STORY The year was 2003, I was a junior in high school in Beautiful Bozeman, MT. My best friend Gabe got this little hatch for his first car. Totally stock 1983 Starlet 2 door with the mighty 4KE motor. We used to drive this hatch around thinking we were Colin Mcrae. Hitting jumps at 45mph and attempting to "drift" turns around town. He was a terrible driver and because of it the Starlet suffered. All four wheels were bent from hitting curbs all the time. So as time went on Gabe moved away and the Starlet sat at his dads warehouse for over ten years. One day Gabe came to town and he said I could have the starlet if I took good care of it. So that is exactly what i did. I picked up the starlet with my trusty trailer and brought it to my dads house. Gotta love that custom wood grill. Nothing like having a park bench for a rear bumper. USDM bumpers are MASSIVE. The rear end is in great shape(thank GOD) The interior was pretty rough from years of teenager abuse and sitting. Missing the center dash vent and the seats were junk. Windshield totally busted from angry child syndrome. Steering wheel has garden hose wrapped with electrical tape. Real Classy. Open the hood and behold the awesome 75HP of the Toyota 4KE! Motor has 150K miles on it. YEARS AND YEARS of dust on the engine.
  17. Hey Team, so after declaring never to by a rust pig again....... I did it - FML 1st Mission is to fix the rust, which was waaaaay worse than first expected. Then do a 1UZFE conversion keeping the factory W55 5 speed.
  18. I have bought a poorly treated, unloved 1981 KE70 Toyota Corolla, with the vision of restoring and also upgrading it to the 3SGE Beams Black Top. I want to set the car up so it can be taken to the track and also used as a show car. I have bought a 1999 Toyota Altezza with a 6 speed manual box and the donating Beams engine. Will post photos and discussion as the project goes on, please feel free to ask questions
  19. All my old photos got deleted from hosting, so rehosted them on Imgur, My old man in the background, we built this together, all started with me having a carina shell and going back to uni so I gave it to him, he decided to put the turbo v8 in it and the rest is history. See you oldschoolers Saturday 11th December
  20. Hi all Here is my discussion for my KE20 Corolla build.
  21. Toymakers ke70 discussion thread ps. I help post content for the toymaker but we are both working on the car
  22. So here it is my daily, I plan on keeping this car for the long haul as after owning numerous cars i have learnt what I desire, Fuel economy, comfort, rwd, manual, tidy, not a subaru, and not cop magnet. With that said I also don't have any justification on spending loads. So after selling my last car I found this car on trademe, some real nice fella from invercargill has owned it for the last 20 odd years and has kept seat covers on it that entire time so seats are in pretty sweet condition no rips tears ciggy burns, non smoker car who has looked after it as much as possible. I believe he said he was a motorbike mechanic and so he has serviced it every 5000ks, It's a 1gfe thats been manual converted. has a few odd dints and what not but overall is pretty tidy especially interior. Pretty much everything is original in it still has tape deck but tape deck doesnt work sadly, So will be hopefully putting a headunit in in the next week or so, Jap import so still doesnt go past 90 on FM. bell rings if ya go any ks over 100. Has recently had all belts done, waterpump, Heads been machined, I'll probably put the trademe screenshot up as it says all of this. its got a bigger battery, bigger radiator that looks new as. Paid 3k for it which in my opinion was sweet. only down side to it is the passenger side door has been crashed into at some stage so it has been bogged up and the black trim is missing so looks odd(plan to replace as soon as i can find one) As soon as i work out how to put photos up I'll do that aswell. Plans for it- Tints, headunit, new 6s and 4s at some stage. Sub and amp. tidier rims that make it stand out a bit better but cheapo spec widened steelies or something. Probably try suss a nice wheel and gearstick soon it has a TRD stick at the moment but want something a bit more JDM like a katana or something that stands out. Lower it, I made a thread about this earlier have pretty much decided coilovers but still not 100% may go with king springs and shortened shocks with RCAs installed if I can sort that out so i dont have to piss around with cert. and a tasteful exhaust maybe but really not fussed at the moment. After that if I'm feeling game might try and suss a LSD for it but not sure and no rush. Will upload photos tomorow to tired tonight. If anyone has any parts available for GX81 please give me a PM..

See Kaaz, Tomei, OS Giken, Cusco, (TRD no longer available) Side note for celica/cressida/irs corona - Altezza/RS2000 Cusco LSD was a nightmare for my diff guy into RT142/RA65 IRS centre probably due to the car not being LSD to begin with. 24. Here goes! Ever since I sold the RT40 I have had a yearning for another high powered old Toyota. Two years of grinding away at renovating a shitty house and I finally have the time & money to enjoy an OS car again. Priorities changed somewhat however and the idea of starting a project like that from the beginning after this house renovation scared me and my bank balance. So after some arm twisting and dinner cooking for the mrs it was decided to go and search for something "finished". This little car was mentioned to me by some Oldschoolers and I had followed the build thread of it over on Toyspeed since it's inception. I guess I'll start with some specifications from the previous owner (because I'm lazy) and pictures from today after I had given it a wash, machine polish & wax to a level I was happy with! 25. Link to discussion thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/52819-the-night-riders-1986-toyota-mr-2-aw11-discussion/ Alright so a bit of background for those who care to read: I bought this car recently from a car collector after seeing an internet advertisement for it. The collector was an older gentleman who had quite a few old American cars and some others such as a Merc, mini, and all three generations of the MR-2; apparently he was wanting to thin the herd down a little. So basically I gave this guy a call asking about the car and its history, He didn't have internet so we ended up having a few back and forth conversations before finally agreeing on a price. He was quite nice and funny to talk to so it wasn't like hard negotiations or anything, more just like talking about the car, which was nice =) To be honest I didn't really think that I'd get the car so I was kind of surprised when we finally agreed. What! I bought a car unseen in person over the phone from some guy 6 hours away! I had never done this before. Anyway the day came to pick it up, I was pretty nervous that it might be really rough in person or weather or not it would even make the trip back home (like I said it was a collectors car so not driven much). Because of this when I finally arrived home with a very clean AW11, I was so glad. I must have spent about an hour or so just walking around it looking at it from different angles while the sun set. ...Skip forward a month or so and the car suffered some pretty bad overheating, lol. Basically the engine is cooked (probably can be rebuilt). Despite this, I love this car way too much to even consider selling (I've been though quite a few cars btw). So there was no doubt in my mind about what needed to be done... it will be reborn. I'm going to be replacing the engine (will keep original engine for a future rebuild) and because everything will be out of the car I will also do a manual swap since there is no better time for it. I want to keep it original for the most part, but will likely have a few light modifications. As I said, I only had it for a month or two before this incident happened so the craving to drive it again is steadily building. Some pics of it before the incident:
