  1. Well i decided i wasnt gunna be cool enough with the Dio nifty, and my CT110 compared to the rest on the penny pinches clan on C50s, so when a pretty rough one came up for $100 i jumped on it. As i picked it up - mostly complete except once side cover (new ones on their way) and a buggered legsheild (will get a new one). Shes an early 1969 model, still has MPH on the speedo. I have already written a letter to transport new zealand requesting to keep the black plate when i re register it. Plans at this stage are - keep the glorious patina, maybe a nice hard cut and rub on some marine wax to preserve -Ct110 rims (slightly wider) painted black, with black hubs and new chrome spokes - get rid of front guard and slight trim / strip of rear guard - nice new single seat -nice new leg sheild and side covers -bar adapter with risers and black bars -gpx 140cc engine for max wheelies - will probably find some nice small indicators and ideally want to run an old patina headlight and tailight, taillight mounted off bottom of rear shock along with black plate on its side. hopefully i dont get distracted / doesnt take me forever to do Im calling on this thing here for inspiration, except with patina / i dont like the straight bars or twin headlights
  2. Brought home 2 trailer loads of death/Honda/toys today, with the reputation that at least one of them has, I may have found exactly how I am going to die haha 1st off the one that's supposedly too dangerous to ride 1985(?) Honda ATC125m trike, looks mostly complete, told it was running a while ago, but the gearbox mucks around and it's got no brakes, will try and get it going tomorrow. That frame thing in the corner of the trailer is a home built/modded go kart He's dropping the axle and bearing blocks etc off next week. 2nd trailer is where it gets a bit more fun in my mind 1990 Honda Gyro X, 49cc with the correct amount of strokes, looks like it was regged as a motorcycle rather than a moped, so hopefully I can get it on a moped rego!! Also to share the death, Aaron got a Honda powered kart out of the deal Carb clean, oil and fresh gas and away it went! Clutch slips a lot though and I need to find a brake disk for it as well as get the caliper mount welded back to the frame, he's very impressed with it though lol He got a bit braver after a while. Gyro only needed fresh gas and a jump start to get going, so we gave it a half ass wash and I took off on it, got 5k from home when it died and then would only run at less than 1/4 throttle, managed to ride it home feathering the throttle at a blistering 7kph. Quick squirt of carb cleaner and it was away again, it's a fucking hoot to ride, tops out at 45 but shit it feels like it's flying and yeah I think I'm in love. Got several thumbs up from random people too haha. Shit I hope I can get it on moped reg!!! If I can't it'll be a tidy up and on sell Otherwise I'm thinking 70cc kit, big carb, custom pipe, 12x10 or 10x8 ATV rims from eBay with stretched scooter tyres on the back, 10" or 12" Dio front end with disk brake etc, the stock 8" front 6" rear wheels with tiny drums leave a lot to be desired! Something like these but rougher and cheaper
  3. Usual story, browsing TradeMe on a Friday night while having a few beers. Que some peer pressure from mates. Sunday morning I trekked down to Te Aroha and loaded this thing into the Sentra Sportwagon. It promptly leaked all the oil/water mixture out. Then headed another hour down the road to visit @MopedNZ in Tauranga and have a 4 stroke wank fest with his new Honda Chaly. So, the bike is a 1973 ish model. Listed as a CT110, but turns out it's a CT90. Sold new by Paeroa Honda and been used on a farm since then. Has some goodies like the Hi/Low gearbox and the rare auxiliary reserve fuel tank. Been suitably barry'd around, wiring hacked up and roofing galv riveted over the rust hole in the rear guard. Tried to get it to run with @MopedNZ after draining the rest of the water and oil out of the crankcase. No luck though, couldn't produce a strong enough spark. Had another go at it today with the battery and coil out of my car and got it to run for a second on some brake kleen down the carb! Carb has been barry'd too so that will need sorting, couldn't get it to run off petrol. Will order a new 6v coil for it and go from there. Plan to replace anything that needs replacing, tyres, wheel bearings etc and just roll as is on some 50 plates. Here's the updated faded red paint fleet picture. Something 70s, 80s and 90s. As always any advice is appreciated! Just got my head around the 2 stroke Yamaha and now onto this thing.
  4. So since I’ve had my cx500 for several years and yet to finish it I did the most logical/os thing and bought a 1980’s? 125xl with og black plates of Facebook last year and promptly got it running plan waaas to fix rusted wheel and re-reg, but got carried away chopping off the gritty seat and back end masked up so I can make a fibreglass seat base, then a mate asked if I’d like a cub of course I would
  5. Seeing as I'm doing some tidy up work on my bike I might as well share it with the OS crew and let you bask in its amazingness. To start off with I'd better run over the last 18 months. Chapter 1 - Purchasing October 2015. I'd just got my licence and was now looking for a bike. I was after something with some legs for touring, under 600cc for cheaper rego, classic for ease of maintenance, and under $1500. On trademe was listed "1986 Honda Rebel 450 - No wof, No reg, No worries!". The sort story is it was an insurance wright off which 2 owners previous had started to turn into a bobber. The bike changed hands a couple times with minimal work done on it. Then i got my hands on it. I went and looked at it, had a mate test ride it, did a bit of haggling, and by the end of the day I had it on the trailer heading for home. Over The next two months I fixed the issues with it including plugging exhaust leaks, replacing the front tyre, replacing the dodgy bar clamps, cleaning the carbs out, poorly tuning it for the modified exhaust, and making the speedo cable longer. A week before Christmas it passed compliance and was ready for summer cruising. My brother and I spend a few days riding all over Banks Peninsula. The weather was epic, the roads were quiet, and my bike didn't miss a beat.
  6. So, thanks to @Raizer @Shakotom @chris r @GuyWithAviators I was able to pick up my new daily from Gisborne. Drove it back in the rain with a blown master cylinder and no read trailing arm bush, which took 12 hours, then proceeded to get a WOF and apply some low. Photos of collection, when collected and now upcoming. Mid drive back; Got the beast back home and gave it all a clean; Then I wanted to apply some lows, test fitted these wheels I had; Picked up a set of cheap D2s and all the collars and body adjustment was seized, couple days of bathing in coke then hitting with a torch and pry bars and it all came loose so gave those a good once over. Got back home and promptly chucked them in; That brings us up to date, just enjoying dragging mudflaps around the place. Good to be back in a shuttle again, RIP my old one.
  7. so I got this last Christmas 1980 something honda cx500 with hopefully only a worn waterpump mechanical seal seller seemed to think it was dereg too (carjam was saying otherwise) so drove from Hamilton to napier and picked er up promptly went to the post shop and changed ownership and put rego on hold, best $10 i ever spent then we sold our house and moved to wellington and ive been super busy working and procrastinating until I figured I have a week off so should get some parts sorted saw that dime city had free shipping so ordered some shorter shocks, clip ons and smaller gauges (found some similar ones on trade me the next day for cheaper....grr) before after no more wheel gap also received a package of seals and gaskets etc from cxphreak in aussie got all the gaskets and orings etc that I need for same price as one gasket from Honda chur so I just need to get of my arse and put all the seals in then reassemble into something resembling this http://www.moto-verso.co.uk/motorcycles/project-cx-cx500-cafe-racer/
  8. Right, well. Story goes I was driving back from up north, checked trademe, saw this Yellow gem and picked it up on my way back home. Gave @GuyWithAviators a call and him and @Shakotom showed up and collected me sitting on it on the side of the road. The lad was like 75 and bought it new, so I have OG purchase docs from CHCH in 1974. It had a bit of a tumble at some point so the front forks are bent, one indicator is smash and the headlight housing is broke. After about 10 mins of Tom touching things in the driveway (and the scooter) it came to life and it dorts around pretty happily. Plan is learn to drive it without crashing into walls (yes, I learned it goes where you look). Reg it, tidy it up and use it for bottle store runs/fun stuff. If anyone has spares I'm looking for the mentioned pieces.
  9. Had this old Honda for over a year now, bought it from Avengertiger here on OS and had plans to rebuild the motor (from worn out piston rings) in this old girl as my first automotive project: The project started off brilliantly, within a couple weeks I'd given it a hell of a clean and polish, rebuilt most of the rear breaks and had her running around as my weekend cruiser Though as all my plans go, I procrastinated waiting on things to fall into place as the rings got more and more worn, it wasn't until she was vaping up clouds that I was sure the dodgiest of WOF inspectors wouldn't pass did I think of doing something. It was a few weeks ago that I had the opportunity to buy a 5-spd running donor from Waimate. So with a couple hundy in hand I took the drive to pick up a parts car with never seeing the car or knowing much about it at all. Turned out It had been used a daily by a lovely old lady on some long gravel roads for the past decade; having started to rust intensely and failed a previous WOF on a tie-rod end she thought it was time to move it on. One hell of a fun road-trip later I had two old Honda's in the driveway and many pissed off flatmates. This project post starts here; with a week before I'm due to move flat and no space to store the parts car its time to rip her apart! It'll donate Engine, Accessories, a Manual swap (ie most of it's soul) to my beloved Yellow Accord. With minimal experience working on cars I'm sure this'll be an adventure, though I'm itching to get started this New Year 2018! 10. Ahoy hoy. I'm a back-story kinda guy, so just scroll down if you want the goods So when I was 16, I asked my old man if I could get a car. He said yes and asked how much I had saved up... Well, s**t. About 6 months passed and I had been doing 3 hour shifts after school when possible making woodfired pizza bases on a foodtruck for the markets. I was almost at a grand when one day someone said I should get a hatchback as it'd be easier to park and probably more economical for getting to school etc. So one day after school, i jump on trademe, searched up hatchbacks pre 1990.. Obligatory "Lowest Price First" sort order haha, first thing that pops up "1982 Honda Accord".. 5pm, I click it, search through the photos, description, location - Everything is absolutely perfect and I didn't have the faintest clue on anything car related, Fwd & Rwd were the same thing in my books and the steering wheel changed the direction you were driving. That's it. Here's the punchline.. This thing could have been an absolute bomb and I would have been completely oblivious. However, this thing had a fresh wof, 6 months rego, 50,000 original k's with receipts and reports proving so and... Was $700!!! Only catch being, it was in Tauranga and I was in Auckland on a learners. My girlfriend at the time had her restricted and was far too good to me with literally everything haha, so her and my mum agreed to drive down to Tauranga and pick this baby up. Anyway, we get down there and the thing is perfect. No rust, no missing trims or damaged parts. Sure, the carpet was a little stained and there were a couple stone chips - but that was it! Anyway, I have no idea what i'd got, years went by of being a stupid teenager and not looking after things, I leave school and acquire a bunch of buggered cars and try do them up etc, literally like 14 or 15 of them, buy em, fondle them, sell em and so on. Long story short, this thing gets in a couple accidents, gets taken to bits, rusts a bit, gets stuck in a beach, has the ol' put the back wheels on maccas trays treatments - Again. I was a textbook pleb with it. I get to about 22 y/o, my taste in automotive had drastically grown and matured, I move back in with my old man after about 4 years of flatting and this thing sitting on the road in the rain etc. I sit in it one day, looking around at the instruments on the dash, the odo reads 80,000.. Man, 30,000 k's in this thing and i'd only had to replace two front tyres and service it. That day I decided this thing had just too much in it for me to sell it on or let it get any worse. I decided this was going to be something I could have until i'm old and crippled. So this all starts around late 2014, didn't really document the dates, just kinda remember roughly how the timeline went, pictures to follow...
  11. Howdy ya'll, it's been quite a while since I had a project on here, so I'm bringing you my current cashhole from Perth, WA. It's a 1998 Honda VRX 400. A water cooled v-twin bike they made for a brief period in the mid to late 90's as some kind of pre custom bike fad factory cafe. They were mostly Japanese market only bikes, and while there are a few customs out there they're pretty much all japanese shop bikes and there's no info etc online as far as I can tell. The bike is rego'd as an 88 here as pre 89 bikes enjoy lax regulations around importation, doesn't bother me much at all as it means it's easier to rego and keep on the road. This one came to me like this for only $2500 rego'd and running... First thing I did was put a bit more bend in the 1" bars, pulling them back slightly as the near flat angle was killing my wrists and felt gamy as fuck. Actually thats not true the first thing I did was melt my workboots against that unwrapped bottom pipe... but moving on, the bars feel alot better now and will make do until I order a set of Biltwell's 1" moto bar. I'd really like to fit a protaper or renthal bar on it but they all have 7/8" hand control areas and this bike is 1" from the aftermarket riser clamps to the hand controls. It's unusual to me being a small displacement jap bike but apparently common on Honda's cruiser stuff from 600cc upwards so potentially it has controls from a vt600/750. I also replaced the stock grips as they're fat squishy foam pieces of shit with plastic looking chrome bits and just generally look like try hard harley bits. Went with Biltwell Thruster in 1" and so far I'm happy with them even though the vibration to the hands increased slightly. They look like this now...
  12. I was yarning to my boss about whether he might know of an CB's >300cc for sale and long story short he had this and I have this now As you can see, it has a skull and the tank is ugly and so is just about everything about it. However, it's a Honda and they can be made to look quite neat. I'm hoping for an end result in this kind of area. Top two of those pictures courtesy of TheBikeShed.cc, some neat stuff on there to stare at. I had also planned to pic up my brother's MC18 NSR today but he wouldn't answer his phone so none of that then. One day I'll have this on the road again also: ..but that's another story..
  13. Hi all, Posted some questions in regards to this in spam yesterday in which Kyteler helped me out. Posting here in a last attempt to see if anyone knows anything about these ignition systems. Long story short, first generation Civic, EN1 engine and electronic ignition out of an early 80's Civic I believe. Car was running fine until I blew the head gasket. Head gasket is all fixed, good compression, but I'm not getting any spark whatsoever. I've installed the distributor by having cylinder one at TDC at the end of it's compression stroke, distributor rotor is pointing just before cylinder one's HT Lead. Few things I've looked into. Coil resistance is within spec. Have tried 3 seperate coils to 100% rule them out - still no spark. I'm getting voltage at the coil and ballast resistor - dropping as expected when turned over. Swapped out coil lead to a good one from my Escort - still no luck. Battery is fully charged and have tried another spare battery. Now, from what I understand, even if my distributor was timed incorrectly, I should still get a spark - albeit an out of time one. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm used to working with points, so this electronic jazz is like black magic to me. I assume there's a magnetic pick up within the dizzy that sends a signal to the ignition module which in turn fires the coil - if so, I believe this ignition module is the problem. Can anyone confirm my theory here? Or even better - would anyone know how to test this module, or better again, would someone have a module I could test? Absolutely doing my head in, and my girlfriend is dying to drive her car haha. Any help appreciated. K
  14. So after living abroad for a few years and succumbing to small bike fever, I eventually got a Toy built in the way of a beautiful c70: Sadly, due to the mods there was little chance of making it compliant over here so I had to part with her before moving home. It was about that time that ol' c50 came into my life as a bunch of parts and the frame/engine all askew in the back of a station wagon. I moved home to meet her in pieces and then went to work and forgot put it to the back of my mind for a few months. A couple of weeks back I returned from a regular trip to Thailand with a whole bunch of goodies and thought it might be time to finally start the build. Here's what's happened so far. The bare frame as purchased, the last owner did a decent spray job, but for the life of me I can't figure out why they painted over the original decals. Hence the red patch on the tank: Next it was time to chop off the tail and get cracking on the forks too: The plans so far include the following: 4.25 inch front rim - Racingboy 4.50 inch rear rim - Racingboy Aftermarket Swingarm - Boushi Front disc conversion - Racingboy parts mostly 12 v conversion New engine build DBK Racing More....figuring it out as I go along All parts are sourced myself direct from the respective factories and shipped here or bought as luggage on my trips back and forth to Thailand. Swingarm comparison: Currently stripping the new hubs so I can get the rims laced up and ready to go: They are almost sorted, ready for polishing and a clear coat before lacing them up. (first time, wish me luck). Also the new tyres just arrived from Cycletreads in Auckland: Of course with the tyres here I became impatient and did a very very rough mock up, completely out of proportion and all: I'll post updates as they happen. New leg shield and engine are the next things to come, but there is alot of frame prep to go just yet. Fun times ahead! I post updates on https://www.facebook.com/mopednz often also. Cheers Admin for approving me and I look forward to sharing the rest of the build in the coming months.
  15. so basically I just need some lush wheels, to install a stereo (the car has NEVER had one) and maybe lower it a bit, OH, and to get a WoF and Rego. oh, and the paint on it is shat.
  16. Thought I might pop a thread up about the GB400 I picked up recently as I slowly try to tidy up some of the dodgy bits. Day one at home: Plenty of dodgy bits to choose from. First problem was there was zero rear brake. The seat had a big hole in the rear section and was held on to the bike with a nylon strap. The bar-end mirrors have stupidly long bolts that very nearly hit the tank, the battery was rooted, air filter was black, rear tyre was square, foot peg rubber consisted mainly of blue electrical tape, front guard looked to have been finger painted by a 2 year old and generally pretty grubby but was running well. After a new air filter, oil change, rear tyre, battery and fresh foot peg rubbers I started stripping the bike down to polish all the stainless bits. I chopped the huge front guard down a bit and painted it matte black to hide it a bit. And this is how it looks at the moment. Just want to tidy up the engine covers and casings a bit more, sort out the ugly exhaust box and bar end mirrors. Might also lower the clip-ons, guages and head light but just enjoying riding it for now.
  17. I picked up my C50 on the weekend, complete with a rego.. lookin forward to a summer of no wofs!
