  1. So bit of a small update I guess... Got some parts put parts on made other things worse. aka new indicator stalks look lots better... but now I don't have high/low beam but I do have high beam flash. Not sure What I've done checked all the fuses etc. but all look good? Know the local auto sparky anyway he can be handballed the job for the minor price of a small village no doubt. Figuring out why the horns don't go, one of the relays kind of just comes apart? For the life of me I can't find any 80A 5 prong relays anywhere... so ebay had some cheapo no doubt dodgey ones I will try put on and see what happens. Got some hard plastic cover door cards actually came out really good and they were packaged like the world depended on them 5stars. New door handle bezels also. Only thing is all the windscreen winders have had the teeth chewed out of them and the pins snapped so not really much point trying to wind anything currently. Winter anyway. Started doing some cleaning/degreasing/wire brushing and sealing. Then proceeded to slowly paint the underbody which sucks a lot laying on your back constantly. Also custom plates cause why not, also not really my car so she can do whatever with it I just have to fix it. Spent a good fair while cleaning all the grease nipples and then pumping some nice fresh stuff through... 1st one no worries pretty much felt like it had nothing in it... 2nd a large amount of gritty grey/black grease pushed out and then also the fitting got stuck for like half an hour trying to wiggle, turn, twist, yank and swear. Even had to message my brother to see if I'm just stupid or not but after that it finally got free after smacking my knuckles how many times to try pull it off. Following the like 20 others that were absolute scum filled it now has nice new grease. Steering is up 136%, Driveshaft spins 112%, rear suspension felt like what was non existent and with a short wheel base is basically a small rock makes your spine shoot through the back of your skull. It now actually feels stupidly smoother like a completely different car. Made a small list of things as you do while poking around and just want to make yourself feel like the list gets ever longer. New Relay Radiator return hose leaking high/low beam issue Front left locking hub is stuck (opened it up think the rink has a split probs need a new one...) Gearing into H4/L4 is a smidge hard general tune/service/brakes/clutch New speedo cable arrived so install that probably need new bushes all around when I was greasing Front windscreen has a leak (Ray Charles must have personally silicone it) also a decent chip which might start to travel Windscreen wiper drivers side I kind of touched and it fell apart... I force soldered it back into place until a new one is sourced Gauge cluster was bulldog clipped on... so that will be bolted on Slap some big bright spotties instead of the rectangles just so all oncoming traffic can't see for the next 20years. Its the Australian way. This will no doubt keep me entertained for awhile especially while I still wait for the patrol to arrive, which has now been pushed back to the 10th of May Here is some basic photos of stuff to keep you guys going

  3. So here it is I thought I might as well get a page ready for her while she is stuck in a dock somewhere in Victoria. Logo's 1974 G60 Nissan Patrol Discussion As the title says this is my new (old) 1974 G60 Nissan Patrol This thing has been registered in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and hopefully soon to be Western Australia. Some casual little details about it from the previous owner/s It was engineered with a Holden 308 5ltr V8 something like 20 years ago, its backed by a marks 5speed gearbox, has disc brakes all around. While the last owner had it he professionally got all the rust cut out and replaced. replaced all the wheel bearings, rear diff bearings and seals, replaced the clutch and has a brand new exhaust. Completely reconditioned Rochester quadrajet carby, 5 new maxxis mud terrain 33s and a custom more durable offroad matt beige/brown paint. He also actually metal fabbed an air dam instead of some bogan fix the previous owner before him made up. Which well also has its issues... He installed a highflow thermostat. So in all reality this thing actually gets too cold which causes the automatic choke to somewhat get stuck on for a bit longer wasting fuel like no tomorrow through that beautiful V8 idle. This accompanied by size 73jets in the carby which he has a set of 71s which might help with a bit of fuel economy along the way. Rigged an electric fuel pump because.... engine thirsty. He tried to grease the rear bushes because of a squeak which he replied... I think I made it actually louder as they loaded it on the transport truck. Has a bunch of spares, all the badges, interior bits and pieces, spare hubs, drive shafts, full set of fulcrum bushes etc. He sussed some original seats from an older model so they made compliance in Victoria so he could actually pass the pits and also they are worth a bit of money. Which helps me even get close to passing this thing over the pits in WA. (somewhat pretty strict on any mods) Door rubbers are apparently a bit loose need some glue to stick them back on. Also as like any straight pipe into a fuel tank they tend to back splash with the speed the new pumps spew out liquid gold. He was also kind enough to be like hey i forgot some stuff in the shed like back up touch up cans and a tub of the paint with the code still on it. Also some spares, because who doesn't love spare old stuff that doesn't exist anymore. So... Heres the bad thing. I bought this and paid for the transport even with them giving 20mins to the guy who lives 50mins away to pick it up... its sitting in some big shed waiting till the 3rd of May to be sent by boat to WA on the 8th. I want the precious. Give me the precious. Here are some pictures i've stolen from him and one of it being dragged onto the truck. Discussion will be added somewhere in here
  4. So I have made a spur of the moment purchase as we all do and this was one of the results, something I've always wanted a short wheelbase fj40 These have become increasingly harder to find especially in Western Australia and when you do its like finding a large gold nugget for one that's in actual drivable condition. It's barely been driven in the last two years as the guy I bought it off got it to drive around, two weeks later he had a bike accident and lost his leg so he wasn't allowed to drive any manual vehicles which really sucks. Awesome guy pretty down to earth moving abroad and he just couldn't use it. He mentioned about 6 people have wanted to look at it all businesses wanting to sell it off for more money but wanted it to go to someone who actually might appreciate it for more than its monetary value. And as you do, I let him actually take it for a spin before he handed the keys over which he thoroughly enjoyed even after I accidentally said give it the stick. So we drove it back about 2-3hrs had no issues expecting the small fuel tank that's basically the base of your seat to need refilling for the small Australian price of $2.15 per liter. Ordered some custom number plates for that authentic show off factor and started to look at the issues I've gotten myself into. For starters the speedo/odometer isn't working - ordered a new one even tho I played around with it and semi had it working, But not worth the hassle. general wear and tear around the body, surface rust etc. nothing to major couple small bubbles and holes around indicator stalks and rear door seal otherwise body is tidy relay that connects the horn and I'm assuming other bits and pieces doesn't work and also fell apart in my hand. Seems hard to find an 80a relay these days. Attempted to put it in 4wd to do a beach run after having to replace every fitting on the air compressor to work, one of the hubs doesn't engage/disengage might need greasing actually putting it into H2, H4 and L4 seems a bit of a mission will probably be the major issue then just bits and pieces for quality of life as it will be more of a daily driver than anything else. Has a list of mods just some quality of life things like a custom box with power, usb, led strips and lights throughout the cab and rear. 9500lb winch, rear air locker, 3inch lift, very much so larger tires which are all near on brand new. Sound system and some add on gauges. completely rebuilt 2F original engine with a 3F head fitted Already replaced the front indicator park light stalks, new door cards on the way among other bits light light covers so they aren't split and faded to the point its only white light. that's it for now, ill slap the discussion thread at the bottom. enjoy some pics I've snapped so far Logo's 1971 Toyota FJ40 Discussion - Project Discussion - oldschool.co.nz

  6. Well well well, it has been months of no updates on here. So i've got it painted came out alright. i've redone the ignition with an electronic points system which has made a massive difference with starting. i've played around with timing etc seems to be pretty spot on but one of the diaphragms in the carb has a small hole... so no big trips for her yet. low and behold more issues have popped up. Started getting air in the clutch line, rekitted the slave cylinder, replaced the line, kitted the master cylinder. STILL manages to get air in it which leads me to think I'm looking for a new slave cylinder or i've done such a good job and put it back together wrong Joined the local car club over here because who wants to pay $1000 a year in rego for a car just sitting in their shed when it could be $75 I've also made the mistake of purchasing two more vehicles because I didnt think my shed had enough junk in it. i'll no doubt make a quick build and discussion thread for these. 1971 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 1974 Nissan Patrol G60 both in pretty decent shape more so the fj40 has a bit of here and there where as the patrol is still in transit from over east but has mostly been completed already unless i start prodding and poking...
  7. So it's been awhile since I've done really anything too it apart from poking holes in rust spots to see how far the screw driver goes in. Had it somewhat running and now theres no spark which kinda sucked since we had to push it up onto a trailer and well its not as easy when you are on a slight hill and there are bolts hitting the trailer so the car wont go up. Not to worry some random off cut bits of wood popped it up a bit. Of to go get painted by my mate at the panel beaters so that will be the next update. Kinda stole the colour scheme off a couple race variants and also a video I found on youtube who happens to live 3hrs north of here. Next I'll probably convert it to an electronic distributor since its much much less of a hassle and also fix the brakes.... which... didn't really work too well
  8. Bit of an update I guess Basically tuned the car by ear... timing pretty much bang on but the piston in the carb is getting a bit stuck probably just some scum in there. Runs reasonably ok but think its getting a bit of a hotspot maybe from the stuck carby and giving it a bit of engine run on. Also sounds like a loud tractor ripping it up the street. Start of august I've sussed it to hopefully get painted. Gave the brakes some love so now I can stop also flushed what looked like fermented milk build up in all the coolant system because the tap water over here is not the best. Crawled under the car had a look around. Rust wise pretty dang good bit of a whammy in the fuel tank tho. Still haven't organised any of the boxes of stuff got a few extra badges etc if anyone is after any couple minx ones in there too. Took the disgusting wing mounts off and noticed they never learnt to measure twice drill once and its not central on the boot lid itself... lucky I have a spare boot if I want to just swap it over. Uncle over here is the local mechanic so he came and had a look he secretly loves it and said he'll sus hopefully the stuff that goes over my head. Also finally got the plates in my name after searching back 20 years and two deceased estates. Thought it couldn't be done. Heres some pics of my mess for now. Will try sort out a throttle linkage so I can have atleast twin SUs on it
  9. Moved it into the shed the other night, loud as almighty neighbours definately wont appreciate that. Also the clutch feel super spongey and grinds a bit so it came with another brand new clutch. Next weeks job I guess also give the brakes some juice. Luckily I moved it in tho think the boot leaks a smidge and one of the passengers window seals are scuffed. Think we had a months worth of rain in one day or something. Another update when i move stuff around give it a tune and what not after I finish my swing. Perks of a week on week off
  10. So only a minor update on it today Weather was all over the show and I still haven't moved it into the shed. Took me far to long to remove the coil since my arms aren't long enough to reach both side but a couple bricks came in handy so thats removed and then messaging my brother for tips and help and after adjusting the points. Its now idling well not smooth but hey it goes when I turn the key now and stays on. Just before the sky turned black with thunder clouds and poured down. So here is a picture of my ducks which basically resemble the paint work on the car having a blast. Also yes I need to mow the lawns
  11. Could be the go, I'll look into some electronic dizzys. At the moment its a bit rough, uncle over here is a wiz with carbys and old motors so hopefully he can have a look even if he doesn't help just a decent list would be good. Couod start working on the other engine at the same time the guy I got it off said they were both recond and have only done 30-40,000 km each
  12. So another couple days of trying to get it running well... this time I actually got it started ran kinda rough as hell but it went. Untill i played with it more now I've gone backwards. Looking at a decent starter and maybe do away with the points. Also found out the guy I got it off didn't transfer the private plates 20 years ago so I've had to track down 2 deceased estates to see if I can keep the plates or just bite the bullet and get gross new ones Also gave it a bit of a clean looked like someone was hotboxing in it the windows were like tar sticky and so were the seats which are original I'm assuming no rips or tears so win. Basically meaningless cosmetic tidying so i didn't feel like i needed to shower by just looking at it. One of my mates is the local panel and paint guy so I've had him look at it. Without doing a showroom fancy job on it thats about maybe 5-6k if im lucky. Also heres a hose someone put on.... basically filled with cheese Also the original brochures and ownership stuff from when the dealer got the vehicle which is kind of cool Heres an idea forgot who has this one but its similar to how I wanted to do one of my escorts. Like a turquoise teal with white.
  13. Also the sweet sweet number plate HUNTER HE So where all things start... seeing what doesnt work and what parts I have Bloke seems to think it was something to do with the dizzy and points so I have like 4 new ones to try out from his stockpile Also about 6-7 stromburg carbys aswell as being able to install two so who knows we will see how things pan out My partner doesn't want to keep the engine bay art either... she thinks her parents might not approve
  14. So its been awhile still in WA australia and sold both my escorts, bought a house with a good sized shed thats empty... thought you know what goes in here well. Junk. So I ended up getting this 1970 Hillman Hunter Royal HE of this guy up in perth thats had it for 20 years collecting bits and pieces but got cancer and needed it to move on to someone who will do it up. Its a matt black spray can jobber someones slapped a wing on it for god knows what reason. Came with all new doors, front end, bonnet, boot lid, engine, transmission, and boxes full of unused and used parts aswell as badges lots and lots of badges so if people need parts and dont mind it coming from over here might be able to help So here it is in all its glory and the amazing bit of engine bay art Heres the discussion Forgot how to post and dont have a computer to bare with me
  15. Well its been loooong over due to do up another car so heres the discussion for my build which I'll drop the link too below Enjoy
