  1. Its running a 318 LA V8, recently rebuilt auto, AC, PS, it does have some rust but it’s an Arizona car so apparently a dry car. Floor pans look good, just general surface rust, Will need all the basics of Vinning: brakes, headlights, suspension bushes etc, rust: Suspension interior Needless to say I’m very excited and can’t wait for it to be delivered so I can work out what I need and start ordering parts from rock auto.
  2. So this is the reason I sold my VL Calais. A while back (when the Calais has no trans in it) this popped up on the Tard, I looked at it and thought oh if only the Calais was sellable. It stayed on my watchlist and to my surprise just didn’t sell. The price dropped and still no sale, unfortunately by the time I finally had the Calais legal again, the seller had put the price up and stated he was putting it through vinning. However the seed was planted and I was casually on the lookout for a piece of American iron, in the meantime a post from a guy looking for a VL Calais popped up on my Facebook page, and I thought worth a try and Ended up selling the car. the seller of the scamp also had a 68 big block caprice for sale so I sent him a message and he sent me a heap more photos, ended up being too rusty for me but I got talking to him and i mentioned that I was interested in the scamp but was gutted I had missed out because he had started the vinning process but it turned out that he had only had a pre vin check done and was willing to do a deal unvinned It is currently being sent up from Wellington so I should have it here Wednesday or Thursday. 3. Road test went well, I took the family out everything was good, but I had this nagging feeling that this wasn’t the car I wanted to be, and to make it what I wanted would bastardise it. About the same time a post on Facebook popped up (albeit from back in February) of a guy looking for a tidy calais, so I messaged him, a deal was done. And now the car has a new owner. Keep an eye out for my upcoming purchase in the projects an buildups forum.
  4. @lowlife this thing eats bump stop, am on the third set already, with new bump stops the chassis sits about 20mm off the ground, when they fuck out it lays the front of the chassis on the ground Cheers @Dirty_Safari, yeah I love the little things on this shape aye. Like the little rear duckbill spoiler thing, saw a pillar less 4 door impala a while back and the pillar less doesn’t have it, so it’s like a bonus point for going post sedan haha
  5. Simon is the man. So many cool cars coming out of his shop. That’s where I bought all my air ride for my Belair from.
  6. Well it has reverse an all 3 forward gears. Fingers crossed the road test goes well haha
  7. So I cheated, this popped up on Facebook, scored it for $175, was gonna cost $160 for the parts to rebuild the old one plus another $40 to have the torque converter flushed (which I will still do as it’s an uprated 2400rpm stall, but it will wait until when I pull the engine later on to regasket it) for now it will get me on on the road and mean I’ll be able to actually use the car which will be a novelty as it’s spent more time broken than useable. Dipstick tube wouldn’t fit under the car, so I’ve improvised with the exhaust bung from my dirt bike haha
  8. Yeah I used Matt to do the floors on the Belair, very talented fabricator. I knew Matt from his own shop Tin tricks. I only found out about why Tony went away after I had the work done, Had I known before hand I wouldn’t have used him
  9. So I failed at selling my dirt bike. Too many lowball offers so I’ll just keep it and ride it next year when I’m given the all clear. In the mean time ive stripped the trimatic down, reverse clutch is fubar, So I’ve priced a full set of reverse clutches, steels and a full gasket set. So I’ll get them ordered soon and send the torque converter away to be flushed, in in other news the wife bought me a set of wheels for this for my birthday, 20” VF SS-v factory upgrade rims going for that full Aussie spec look with it. Scored a brand new set of china spec 225/30/20 tyres for $340 from a guy who bought them and then realised that the profile was too small for his commodore (I suspect it must be a VT upwards) but that size is what you have to run on early commodores as the tyre will foul on the front strut other wise finger for reference, ask ya Mum how small it is. So yeah long long story short, failed as a salesman haven’t done fook all since
  10. This thing is perfection! Wouldn’t change a single thing! Nice work man!
  11. Holy fuck I love this. Literally perfect. Would own 100%
  12. Yeah I’ve seen many different opinions from different people who build lots of bagged rides. When I built the Belair I read an article from a well known builder (although I can’t recall who it was now haha) that said to put them between the tanks and compressors, I’ll be honest I get a heap of water out of mine when I empty them. With that being said I haven’t drained the tank in a while so would be interesting to see how much moisture is in the tank (the tank drain is in a cock of a place to get to so I’ve been lazy haha) Im running a stainless tank and brass fittings so hopefully corrosion won’t be an issue. Have had to clean the valves once because one was sticking but otherwise it’s been a reliable setup. I think having water traps between the tanks and valves would be ok if your running a manifold but if your running individual electric valves then having to run 4 water traps would be a pain haha Just found this, similar to what I had read when building the Belair. Obviously if if the first water trap hadn’t been there then that water would’ve ended up in the tank and would’ve been caught by the second one
  13. I see you have your compressors plumbed straight from the compressor into the tank, just curious as to where are you going to mount water traps? Most of what I’ve seen has them between the compressor and tank (which is where mine are in my Belair)
  14. @tortron nah still haven’t worked it out, one thing is for sure they don’t improve the braking at all, so they will be removed when the motor is out and I’m cleaning up the engine bay. @Unclejake thanks for the offer man, I’ve already replaced them
  15. Took advantage of Auckland anniversary, and pulled the traumatic out, screw the guy who decided that the trans sump doesn’t need a drain plug, seems to be a bit of sludge an bits of clutch inside. So have decided to not even bother with it. Am going in for knee surgery on the 26th to have a ruptured ACL an torn medial meniscus sorted, so dr reckons I’ll be looking at around 9 month until it’s healed fully (I’ll walk out of surgery but 9 months to fully healed) which means I’m going to sell my dirt bike, and dump the money into this, plan is: VZ T56 6 speed manual, new carb an manifold. Have the block and crank machined for a 1 piece rear main seal and regasket/paint up engine standard oil pump to replace the high volume one that just fills my rocker covers with oil, Slap an lsd and a set of 4.11 gears into it (6th gear in a T56 is around 0.5 so should still cruise at good rpm) will defiantly wake the old girl up.
  16. Doesn’t fill you with confidence when the guy failing your car doesn’t even know the rules he is supposed to be following. dont worry about the high stop light. Like you said it’s no longer a requirement for entry compliance/wofs on older cars
  17. So last Monday I had the day off work, so I removed the rear extension housing, from the trimatic, and the removed the centrifugal governer valves. Sure enough they were sticking, so I gave them a clean up with some scotchbrite, lubed them up and reinstalled them. This was successful as my first gear issue is fixed, and the gearbox was seemingly all good. I did notice however that reverse took a little longer to engage........................ And then when I went to take the car to work on Saturday, reverse is pretty much non existent now. So I suspect my issue with the first gear has been that reverse was getting engaged as well and as such the reverse clutch pack has failed. This is means I’m gonna be out of the drag day.
  18. This^^ if i See a post about your truck, its the first thing i look at,
  19. Don’t quit on the car, if you sell it you will probably regret it, and it’s not likely you will find another Royale as clean as that one again.
  20. They have been powder coated by a friend of mine in timaru, I’m not sure exactly what it is but he brought it in from Aus, apparently it’s usually used on Harley’s, can see if I can get any more info about it if you want @cletus
