  1. Cripes! 4,000 RPM! I wasn't expecting that. You're right in thinking this is for my speedo. I thought speedo cables chugged along pretty slowly, but having had a quick google it looks like 100kph is about 1,000RPM for Datsun speedos of a similar age. I dont have any ideas better than yours, haha. I was gonna use a stepper. I'll confirm the speed I need first and go from there. Looks perfect. There's got to be cars at PAP with similar sensors. Keen to get this project started today. Will hunt for 3 wire sensors.
  2. Yeah all those things could work. I'm pretty keen to get a proper hall effect thingie thou 'cos it'd make the custom shit I'm doing that much easier. I've tried to get hall effect sensors from PAP before and I seem to always get them home and work out they're not quite right. But I think the key is to get a 3 wire one and I should be sweet. I'll sniff about PAP on the weekend.
  3. Ok, interesting, I've not seen many ABS sensors that are hall effect, they're normally variable reluctance. But I'll dig around the fords and see what I see. Don't think they'll have cars that modern at PAP unfortunately.....
  4. What's a good candidate for a Hall Effect sensor available at pick-a-part. Not a variable reluctance sensor, but a hall effect one with a square wave output. Preferably not the type that use a disc that passes through the sensor. It's for measuring the revolutions of my driveshaft.

OK Yeah, I get what you're saying now. I did ask him specifically saying it wasn't for my setup, and was just talking generally about the merits of H12. But yeah, don't know if he really paid attention to that. Anyway, he did say it's available in NZ. So that's good?

    Does this work?

Yeah, I was just doing my community service / all my stuff is R134 / just passing on what he said.

Spoke to Kevin just now. He says what I'm doing is not retarted! So I'll hook up the blower, evaporator, compressor and condenser and he can plumb it all up for me. I also asked him about H12 and he recks that you can get it here but doesn't know why you'd want to as the performance is pretty much the same as R134 given modern compressors and that. I'll update this when I start hooking things up. YAYA
  9. Marvel at the hackyness of this circuit board! It actually works too! It takes the 4V ignition signals and means I can run the factory tacho. Big ups to Ned for persevering with me. I got my belts re-webbed and tarted them up with some paint. Riveted new furry bits on my door cards for the windows to rub against. Riveted new squeegee bits to my door trims for the windows to rub against.

HAHA I was planning on popping out there today actually. So maybe I'll fulfil my community service to OS while I'm at it.
  11. I dont like escorts much, at all, but I actually fucken love this one. I like the bit where is goes silver and gets a vinyl roof. Looks the tits.
  12. Ummmm. Fuck me. I really quite very much like this car. Somehow I've missed the last 6 months of updates and just got up to speed. Keep up the good work! (and then give it to me)
  13. Ahhhhh, yeah, so did I actually. But I can't criticise what they're doing at all, everything they've done has been fucken mint and I would've done the same thing (if I had the skillz). Not much of a brief at all actually, just told them what colours, what I wanted shaved and a few other little bits and bobs. They want to fix everything up so it's all solid before paint and shit doesn't go wrong 12 months later. And I'm pretty happy about that actually. But yeah, it's more work than I thought. On the positive side, even though I would've called my car "rust free" before, it will be _absolutely_ rust free after this. And they're so quick and good at these repairs that hopefully shit wont be mega expensive. It's a car I'm keeping forever so.....
  14. More panel work. Two layers along here replaced and same on the other side. There's nowhere for rust to hide!

So does he run out of his house? This is the only address I can find, 44 Mozley Ave, Devonport. 027 491 2231 Sweet, if he does, the more back yard the better.

Ahhhh, is it possible that switch trips on both too high, and too low pressure?
  19. mikey

    DIY Aircon

Yeah, there's an expansion valve attached to the evaporator. Diaphram looking thing. Pressure switch makes sense. I can't see any other pressure switch in the setup thou, just that one. And I've taken everything from the car. Is it possible this setup just has a high pressure switch, and I run the pump until I trigger the high pressure switch, then disengage the clutch?

This is the gear I have so far, I just checked and it's all R134A, yuss! So....... how the fuck does this shit work? There's an electromagnetic clutch on the compressor yeah? When I want AC I just give that 12v I'm guessing. That little canister next to the condenser is a drier I'm guessing? It's got a couple of wires coming out of it. What are they for? A warning light once it's done it's dash?

OK Super! I'll pop out and have a yarn next week.

I would love to have have properly cold AC. But any drop in temp would help. Sitting in auckland traffic on a hot day is unbearable with a black interior. I often end out opening the door and leaning outside. It's bawls.

Yeah I totally agree, I'll hit them up for sure. Just wanted to sanity check with you guys first. Doing AC this way looks like it'll cost me fuck all. Esp compared with VintageAir. And it'll be less intrusive too; I can keep all the original heater controls and stuff.
  24. Yep, that all sounds correct. Awesome, I'll do that since it should actually be the easiest route given everything is apart and stuff. I don't have the car to test on at the moment, but will do it all and then I'll have an excuse to pop out to the panel beaters and check up on progress! Then the next electronics project will be getting the speedo to work! But that should actually be easier since it's all micros and digital shit + stepper motor. Thanks for ya help.

If I'm honest I've already pinched all the gear from a Nissan Sentra on Sunday. The dash is out getting fixed up so it's the perfect time to sort out AC. The pump is deffo R134A, and I'm pretttttty sure the other gear is too, so should be sweet but will double check. If I'm not mistaken they can flush the other stuff out too? Anyway I'll check.
