  1. i havent posted any car ramblings in a rather long time.been here, there and everywhere. but since being home my daily morphed into something rather obscure. its been a long journey to this point with alot yet to come, many good times with much heart ache. one of the earliest photos moving things around when i got home this is the last trip it made with r160 rear end, but did have fc rx7 front end by this point many many axles and 3 gearboxes later i had to do what i do best and go way overboard so changed to a 6 speed box when all this went in and now it should last alot longer. felt reall good on track now it awaits me getting enough spare space for a long enough period of time to get design approval for cert and then have Clint come back and give me a big list to rectify. its been fun but there is a little car that some may remember that needs love again
  2. is there a layout to follow when it comes to doing the design approval process, I have three things that will need to go through this process(rear knuckles, rear subframe and front LCA's) I have the basics of the knuckle drawn in cad that still needs a little work before its completed, the LCA's I could probably draw up but the rear subframe is way to technical for my skills. obviously have to supply information on welding processes lastly should i get NDT done before or after as all are made already and happy to add/change if requested
  3. sux i wasn't still around to have the joy of working on this. im glad the boys looked after you so well. after working along side them i must say they dont let anything slide. grant puts 10/10 into every job no matter what it is. looking foward to my next visit to nz to see
  4. no pics to show but i have now completed the manual conversion and much to my liking it is at least 30% more efficient at burning petroleum. in doing the swap i decided to tidy up the engine bay. removed all waste. put the battery in the boot and gave it a spray. all looks alot better. needs a few things resprayed and cleaned thoroughly like the master. pulled the steering box out and threw it as far as i could. now has a ke70 steering rack in it thanks to a donor ke70 cross member. and have also done the basic sleve kit coilovers to do the job. last thing to do is fit the 4 link rear end but i may leave that for the mean time.sitting on standard ae70 alloys till i finish my master(actually average) plan. pics to come when i get around to up loading them!
  5. i hope by saying machine the spring perches off you mean cut them off with an angle grinder!
  6. so i have continued along the nana spec theme I'm now supporting a sunvisor and a roof rack which i made (and because i hate buying shit) the roof rack isn't something that enhances the look of it but it also carries my mountain bike and fixie for those occasions that i go away for a ride. maintenance wise has been a bit of work. most things are rather worn and due for repair. the hole exhaust system has been replaced with an oem ke30 setup except exhaust manifold (which now has cracked and leaks like fuck!) full brake overhaul up front. shocks are gone all round so yeah (i will sort it) most steering components are gone also so i think it may get some wezgineering treatment to eliminate the steering box. still cant get my head around how much the aussies changed when they built the darn things. box and diff are borg warner. the brake calipers are girlock. there is darn 13 and 15mm nuts and bolts alongside 12 and 14mm, it drives me crazy. even more spanners to lose while trying to work. also test fitted a few wheels over the past few weeks first are frowned upon but was totally amazed at how well they fitted the rear rota grid 15x9 0 also bilbo's 14x6.5 and 14x 7.5
  7. rather good nana spec condition. plan on using my efi gear thats just chilling in a box back in nz. enjoy
  8. sucks a fat one bro. especially after our convo at burger boes
  9. not reverse thread. they are the old style bearing with a locator in the middle so it should be done up decently tight. if doing bearings you can push that locator to the site with a screw driver then smack the old bearing out with hammer and said screw driver there is an up close of what the back of the hub/drum looks like in this thread here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33457-wezs-kranky-carry/?hl=kranky
  10. datsun 1200 diff measured 1300mm face to face. way larger drums then the st90(1280mm). my diff came with tail shaft to mod with mine just had to move leaf mounts a little. i ran 10mm thick alloy top hats with strut hole moved for better camber/wheel fitment. mainly because old hats were very worn and didnt want a strut in my poo hole
  11. i had 13x 6 +13 advan a3a's on my st90 ute and i had to get a bit of hamer action up front. 2" blocks at back and as previos mentioned, take an inch out of the front top spring perch and you are away laughing. i swapped diff with a datsun 1200. went from 5.1 ratio to 3.9. much nicer on motorway to daily too and from work. suprisingly tourqey motors. (mine was a f8a)
  12. unfortunately the job i have taken on doesnt leave me wih a heckof alot of funds to keep the project going. sitting in storage till the day i get a payrise i guess. have literally quit smoking to tryand atain more funds to keep the project alive. thanks chuff!
  13. Ive got the same rack that todd runs in the keto, the plan would be to go power steer with a remote electric pump. Lock im basically at my limit until i make some form of new castor arm/lca combo. Will work all this out at a later date once i recover from this toybaru over dose!
  14. Cheers VG. So many hours in it. Im glad i can put it in a shed and forget about it for a while. Sleep the last few days has been wonderful!
  15. okay. so here is the final product. still a fair bit of work to do but its all sealed up ready for the last few bits to be sorted then one day in the future i may get it into final paint! as you can see. the swages need a fair amount of attention still, but ill get there. have more big plans now that the tube frame is finalized. basically i can lower the motor another 80mm now so i will be making a new cross member to suit an after market rack of some discription (todd/boost+k insert opinion here!) whilst doing that i will be making up a new exhaust manifold to suit a VF twin scroll turbo. finish off the intake manifold and get a link g4 wired in. lets hope it all goes at a steadfast pace while also trying to get my new ke25 project daily road legal
  16. okay, so i basically have stopped working since the last post (except Keisuke's Christmas drift bash) lots and heaps of progress, its been tough but now that its starting to take shape the motivation is great. its starting to look like a decent car again! kinda excited now also to see it all one color. anyway, no need for jibber jabber heres pics thati have been taking over the recent days
  17. Stuffs gettin overhaulled Pics, pics, pics. Everyone love pics. To lazy to write but pretty self explanitory. I think that this may have been why the starly got upset during the club k trackday and hori dori http://s1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff368/1vaknd/?action=view&current=59434B14-6C32-4EF9-BEF7-692CB1EDCAB7-156-00000003E3C37301.jpg Chassis rails Enjoy! All questions welcome! Wez
  18. cheers dude, seriously hate these new flare things aye, might have to trim them down a bit.
  19. this is what its starting to look like. i dont like it but its what has to be done to not get another defect. its only screws so i can just take them off when ever and they will be fine till i get my steel flares made up
  20. defected for to much poke tonight, have tomorrow off before i start my new job Thursday, will fabricate some flares out of garden edging then to get me out of the shit, will post progress pics once done. might get my rear skirts on also to get it looking a little better
  21. all in know, super stoked with the new 3.9 ratio compared to the 5.1, im know running 3,200rpm at 100kph compared to 4,700ish rpm. took it for a drive to the GC and back and it handles alot better, its tightened the rear end up a ship load. bad news is the diff head is seriously noisey but that just seems to be a datsun thing from what ive heard, i think once i fix the tray and get some marine material on it the drum effect will weaken slightly. hopefully the noise wont resinate as bad. i have a new mufler sitting there and a whole lot of pie to get some crazy extractors and the new system in. in the mean time im waiting for a rainy day as it hasnt rained here in over a month. i want to get out and have some fun as the 800cc does not sustain fun. anyway heres some pics of the new setup all in and finalized
  22. in the mean time i have been getting a little tired of the ridiculous final drive ratio so i know have a datsun 1200 diff that will be slammed in the rear and while im at it i have decided to replace the boring old leaves with a parallel 4 link plus pan-hard bar set up. in doing this i will get better brake performance due to the loopy old brake system, and brake parts are readily available compared to the oem parts. also the price of custom driveshafts over here gave me a scare, put it this way, it was alot more then getting my two piece subaru starlet shaft modified anyway it aint a post without picks
  23. Was looking at special reverse boxes but cbf with all the money and drama. Will just use a 5 speed box with a 1 to 1 fifth gear
  24. Have been looking at bike engines and basically the reverse box will set me back more then a complete bike all together
