  1. Developed a vacuum leak around the base of the carb. Looks like someone used RTV or something on it. Had to remove one of the probably asbestos gaskets from the spacer plate. Can't find these things anywhere. Got rid of the oil catch can and reinstalled carburettor after small rebuild. Still has a slight vacuum leak, probably because of these cheap paper gaskets I got off eBay. Removed manifold and resurfaced exhaust side. Head is straight as. Got it all put back together and torqued up. Can't find any new old stock Toyota manifold bolts for it though. Found the cause of the vacuum leak. One of the spacer channels runs right along the edge of the intake manifold. Used a thicker gasket and some of this stuff to seal it up. On the road again.
  2. Have been doing a bit more work on the Hiace. Installed a 3 space battery tray and a relay switch for when I run the main battery flat. Also got some industrial roof racks. Cleaned up the sway bar and installed some new bolts with Nolathane Bushings. Cleaned up the fan and engine bay. Installed a new radiator. and some new hoses. Removed and painted the rear door. Starting to look OK.
  3. The top coat. Pretty mint considering the dusty area I'm working in. Tinted windows in. Worked late to refit the front doors, still need adjusting. The problem with the starter solenoid solved. Starts first pop.
  4. I've taken all the front off again so that the doors are a bit easier to install, so will get some shots of the whole thing when the doors are finished. I like what Euron8 has done with his GEU, so might go down the same road. The old donk will do for now, seems to be running pretty good after a basic overhaul.
  5. Been a while since I last posted. My camera broke not to mention my drill and sander. Here's a snap of the second to last skim of bog on the doors.
  6. About half way through the doors. Found the rustproofing paperwork.
  7. Chucked a few little bits and pieces into the air intake system today. Used better tubing though.
  8. Been working on the doors today. Found this repair, hm! someone had just put builders putty on it. Found a K&N E-2222 Filter for $82.40 incl on Ebay. Then painted up these, not that they were rusty.

  13. Got the roof and one side painted white. undercoated the other side. Good conditions for painting. You might notice that I put some ply on the deck. No more scratches causing rust. Sweet!
  14. You guys and girls are probably a bit sick of all my painting shots eh! Here's some more for ya... The red oxide is where a little bit of rust had come through from scratches damn it! All treated now. Needed a good scrub as I had a few silicon particles that the paint didn't like much. Nothing major.
  15. Random weld shot. There was a bit of structural to fix. But she's pretty tidy and strong now. Towie managed to rip this bit right off. Went up a gauge to make sure that wont happen again.

  19. Looking at a few more months work on mine, so prob March for a burn up to Auckland I can weld OK so some engine mounts for a different engine isn't out of the question. Anyone want to help me sand? After a few weeks I haven't got many fingers left. No takers eh... Oh well. Only ever seen one old school Hiace truck, had a little crane on it for lifting up engines etc onto its deck.
  20. Guess I better get a thread going on my Hiace. Not sure what I'm going to do with the engine yet. I like what other members have done with their Hiace's to get more power but then again prefer to keep things original. She's pretty grunty already. Maybe find another 18R I can modify, so I can use the van in the mean time. Anyone got a spare one?
