    - why big Australian cars with a mix of metric and imperial fasteners are better than silly little European ones that only use metric ( i had to dig out my very limited and mismatched Imperial sockets and wrenches that had been banished to the back of  bottom draw of the tool box and put them right in the top bit :( )

    - can you bolt a 202 to the Torana 4 speed?

    Yes

    - where to find a nice 202.

    - why do i even want a 202 (re-rego mainly), the 173 is probably perfectly fine, KPie doesnt really care (unless its a v8), and it wont be the engine from the Torana any more,

    You dont, 202-tax

MT2 is pretty small, will be quite limiting. Does anyone make conversion kits to fit better spindles on those?

I'll have a look but I doubt it, there's barely any info on the internet on these units.

Its more that likely that anything heavy I'll be using the horizontal setup

My little victoria mill is the same style as yours. Mine has very little height on the Y axis so I am limited what I can fit in it. With the ER collet adapters you lose a bunch of that Y axis height. But I've seen that you can get Morse Taper collets so you don't lose any of that height. Only place I've seen them is AliExpress but I plan on getting some for mine.

Ohh that is really handy to know, this is the same, there is bugger all z axis space with the vertical milling adapter.

I'm not 100% happy with the drawbar setup as it is so this would be a good outcome.

    Thanks~!

So jealous of the horizontal, looks like a perfect diy machine!

servo motor is the only option for the axis drive :)

It will be once I build it up, a 'forever' machine.

How might an electronic numpty like me do that?  Is it as simple as a switch and a potentiostat to change the feed rate?

  5. So I got this home without much drama on friday, the prior owner was pretty sad to see it go.

Havent really done much with it other than plug it in and give it a cursory switch on.  I do need to pull it apart and see what condition I have.  Its pretty tight on the gibs and some backlash in the y-axis.  There is a x-axis rapid arm which I havent yet figured out if its more problems than its worth, I do want to mount a basic power feed on that axis so any bright ideas are welcome.   Spindle is MT2 so will look for a cheap ER collet adapter.

Came with an ok bit of tooling, the horizonal arbor mount is home made and should work ok with some modification.  See the size of one of those cutters!  This wee machine would be giving every bit of its ponies for that.

Also, with a bit of house DIY this weekend I finally used the table saw in anger.  Some tweaks to do - new riving knife and finger plate but otherwise good to go.

  6. In other news, I had some FB posts up asking for some spare Tanner parts.   One guy who reached out said his Grandad was one of the Tanner directors, I asked if there were any documents/manuals from him left as would scan them all digitally.  Sadly he said nothing was kept when he moved.  Unless there is some Barry out there who is hoarding stuff its mostly all been lost to the sands of time...

  7. Restoration #1 underway, while these are certainly robustly build I wouldn't call them 'refined'.  I have a number of updates to make on this one, intending it to last my lifetime, and with some large beams in its future I want it running mint.
