  1. Hi Guys, have juust purchased a ctek charger for my yellow top optima...the first optima fuc##ed out, and surprisingly, summit in the states replaced it...(yehah)...the ctek comes with a harness to connect to optima full time, which i have done...before i turn on the unit, i want to know, if it is ok to FLOAT charge the battery with the vehicle electrics still connected??...i assume it is, as they supplied the harness with charger, but am cautious as i have an electronic hyperpak running the dizzy on a 4age in my anglia.... over to you guys...whats your thoughts???
  2. hey pal, i`ve got exactly that set..16v 4age, with k50...autoclutch in morningside auckland done a custom plate for me...part # acp7508N....toyota special 200mm...$176.80+ in august 2010...this behind 175hp, and is holding together great...k50 had internals cryogenically treated, and it stands up to the punishment...also using mondeo hydraulic release bearing, if your mate wants something special.....

    Gearbox Oil

Hey Felix, done mine over easter weekend..75/90 is what i used in my stock anglia, and i do it every 2nd year ( about 1000 miles )...also change diff and engine oils...
  4. i`m selling Milwaukee jackets that take an 18v battery, and have a heater built into them..even camoflague colour
  5. not sure about vertex, but have just learnt a shitload about optima...in a nutshell, beware what you buy these days as manufacturers are going away from lead acid to calcium...or calcium/calcium..or in some newer cases, calcium/silver...all of these batterys require specialised chargers which will constantly monitor the batterys condition, and discharge ad recharge as the battery requires...around 200-250.00 per charger, depending on brand.....also putting modern calcium batterys in old school vehicles, requires an alternator upgrade as the regulator will not provide enough charging current...unfortunately this is way of the future.......
  6. yep, took all the old crap out, put in a pcb, then charged me like a wounded bull...but at the end of the day, i got what i was looking for, they are actually good guys, just the shit they have costs heaps....my entire dash ended up costing $1500.00...
  7. just done the same exercise, needed a smiths 10k tacho for my 4age, but coil could not run it, so Robinson industries in onehunga, took all the guts out of it and put in a pcb for me, works awsome, looks awsome, but frick it cost an awsome price as well....$250.00 +...
  8. my best guess, is the bendix spring, loses tension, worm drive wont engage, and sounds like its not making contact with flywheel...should be relatively easy fix for auto sparky.....(old school auto sparky!!)
  9. also running a fricken yellow top optima battery that has been giving me shit.......cant use normal chargers, had to get a auto sparky to kick her back into life...what a fn headache....any thoughts on optimas guys....pro`s and cons...at 450.00 including SPECIAL optima cage...is it worth it....you guys tell me....
  10. hi guys, just to answer some questions, this is running 175/60/13`s on 5.5 rims, not sure what your combination is felix, but with k50 and 4.1 gears in 5th @ 120km, 3000rpm...when the quaife goes in i`m going to try 3.9 diff gears, but at present, runs well, not screaming, but i`m still easing him into it...dyno in another week or so, just clocked up 600km`s.
  11. hi Guys, been a while since i`ve been on this website, so thought i should give an update. august 2010, i bought a 1965 2onr 29000 mile orig sedan...cirrus white, green interior, 997cc. Purchased off a chap who bought it to turn into targa car, but couldn`t bring himself to do it...Way too good to chop up, so into storage it went for 15 years. He had to sell it to fund another targa car so i bought it, and well i couldn`t bring myself to chop it up either, so back in storage for a couple of years....we call him scooty, and he goes out for warrants and car shows, not too much more than that really. Soooooo, december 2010, i bought another one, this one was getting the treatment for sure...another low mileage vehicle, had been blasted, panelled and painted....Ermine White, what else could i do, but build my interpretation of a lotus anglia..so off we went, fortunately i have a great mate who deals with american muscle cars, so off to his place we went, and into it....200hp 4age (yet to be dynoed)40 dellortos, huge cams, k50, mondeo hydraulic release bearing, gilmer drive, reverse pedal box, mk2 struts, capri discs, milton steering arms, milton swaybar blocks, milton strut brace, 100e van 1/4 bumpers, lotus steels, lotus badges all round, low back buckets, looks like the real thing....just wish it had the lotus engine, but at 30k,(recently advertised 180hp lotus engine) not possible....i was bulding him for the brits at beach show, but setting up the release bearing turned into a mare, so he never got there, however, i will be taking him to all ford day in march. I will try to upload photos, but really struggle to do this..i do need door cards, and boot latch if anyone has some spares.... (kcoley@ideal.co.nz) and will get carpet done soon.....many many thanks to Russ @ american car maintenance enhancement for his engineering skills, and also Hooksie @ subway automotive for his engine and gearbox building skills
  12. hey mate trust uj`s judgement...indy 500 are made by a company in penrose akld called johnson piston rings...they manufacture both pistons and rings, and are of exceptional quality, i had many sets of rings for earlier models way back then..and were always cheaper.....no issues with quality though
  13. so got the noise sorted, multiple amps with all earths going straight to battery...WRONG!!...needed to move earths for all 3 amps....KTRIPS...does the position of the belt change the pitch of the gilmer drive??...at present the belt is running in the middle of the pulleys, if i move it closer to the front of the pulley, will it scream louder, (based on the air being squeezed out, as you mentioned earlier) ??
  14. ok, finally got to take my ride out on saturday after 11 months on axle stands...vinned on friday.....yeeeeehahhhhhh.....why the hell does the sound of the screaming gilmer drive come through the 6x9 speakers....wtf ??...something to do with the pulley on alternator inducing some kind of harmonic??...got me baffled...sooooooo, before i go and start sorting suppressors and shit, anyone got any thoughts??
