  1. Out for a wee hoon last Friday. Here's one of the better laps Still need to to increase the oil cooler size and add fuel surge tank. Youll hear I'm struggling to get power down with the hilux diff so got a Modifed centre from Rae emmerson that will go in on Friday with a new cw&p ratio to try get into 6th.
  2. Found the money tree again so I got the escort back to Burke's metal works for the fix up. Home looking sharp once again. all back together ready ready for testing again at ruapuna.
  3. Autosparks Ashburton Street Sprint 2017 - Run 3. Unfortunately the gopro's sd card ran out of memory about 10s before i hit the bails. Bit gutted, wouldve like to see what the car and i were doing at the time.
  4. Autosparks ashburton street sprint 2017 - Run 2 This was an absolute shocker. So many gear changing fails. Factory altezza gearbox and hilux diff not coping. Synchros were playing up and diff was behaving like an open. Need to make some changes.
  5. Autosparks ashburton street sprint 2017 - Run 1 This was about 10.30 in the morning on a cold drying track. First competitive outing on brand new semi-slicks. Was pretty tentative due to lack of grip.
  6. First event, run 2. Dammit. Quick string line wheel wheel alignment before heading back out after replacing a few bent and broken bolts. Still got problems in the front. Better quit while it's only partially damaged.
  7. Hey everybody. Thought I should update this as things have progressed a lot. Its been an eventful last few months. I got the car finished and on the dyno in April. First test drive up the road I lost oil pressure as the dry sump pump got jammed by a rogue piston oil squirter, ecu limped and i hit the killswitch within seconds. Pulled the engine to inspect and thankfully it happened at low load and low rpm so we got away with only a single worn big end. Would've been catastrophic if it had happened a minute earlier when I was giving it death. Got the engine back in the car with new big ends and a rebuilt oil pump at midnight before the first track test at Ruapuna. First lap went out for a warmup, got round to pit straight and buried the foot, about half way down smoke started billowing out and filling the cabin. Everyone thought I'd lunched the engine but thankfully was only a loose oil return line spraying the headers. After a cleanup at motorsport solutions I got back out and got a solid 10 laps in. So much fun. The test highlighted a few niggles that needed sorting but decided to race the following week at the ashburton street sprints. Was having a shit load of fun but battling issues under brakes. Should've backed off for the weekend but pressed on until on run 3 I went into a corner too hot, got upset under brakes and hit the bails. Sooo gutted. Thankfully the people around me egged me on and I decided not to trailer it and got it fixed enough to head out for my 4th run. Still felt like there were some issues in front so pulled out of my run to prevent any further accidents/damage. Back in the shed now and have started to panelbeat it. Hopefully have it fixed up over the winter and ready for testing before next season. Got a list of things to change and improve but will chip away. I can't be bothered sifting through my photos at the moment but will do soon. If you want to follow what I'm up to there's a heap of photos and videos on my Facebook page Chopshop Motorsport. https://m.facebook.com/iamchopshop/
  8. Got my meat saw from mitre10 mega. Works a treat on a multitude of materials. I'm not sure if it's rated to run at angle grinder rpms but that grinder of mine is variable speed so I slow it down a bit just in case.
  9. Yea I reckon. How does one go about skipping to the next page? Yea should've had the guard on. But was just doing a quick cut and the old 'she'll be right' was the loser on the day.
  10. Started work on an airbox. Was just using some alloy sheet and bending and shaping it by hand/hammer and dolly but was becoming a bit shit. Then i cut my thumb on the meatsaw so thought I'd better trade it in for some scissors and make a cardboard mockup first. Will make it up out of alloy. Pretty tight to the bonnet so not as much clear air around the trumpets as I'd like but can't do much about that. Will use a panel filter in diagonally to get as much surace area as possible. Will have a lid panel to enclose the box. Wanted it to open up to give easy access to the Stuff that has to bolt inside. The offending cutoff wheel /meatsaw. Lucky it was just a nick. Could've been a shocker.
  11. Needed to get the wheels re-done as the gold was a bit weird and shit looking so got centres blasted and then spent a bunch of hours with a file cleaning up the castings as they were a bit average. Had lumpy bits and issues with some of the spokes. Wanted a more authentic classic gold as per the zakspeed escort and fortunately Burkes metalworks had the zakspeed there to copy for the replica that Gary is having built. We got all the colour samples that were close and matched them up against the wheels in the workshop. Got it pretty close I reckon. Also needed new inner front barrels for brake clearance. So pine got me some made up and then polished up all my outers for me and put them back together after doing a small bit of machining to spigot the barrels onto the centres for a bit of added security. Looking so good now. Time for some slick rubber. Car and wheel colours should look pretty good together.
  12. Nipped up all the brake fittings and thought I'd have a bit of a test bleed to see if pressures were reading properly. Don't have the diff in so just bled and plugged the line where it would attach to the diff. Mustn't have the fronts bled properly cause they don't have any residual pressure like the rear does. Either that or the residual pressure valve is no good. Foot on the brake shows both sensors working. With bias calculated. Getting plenty of pressure out of the handbrake. Warning lights going cause ecus in limp mode as it's not getting the right info due to no engine in or running.
  13. Some of the extras I got added into the loom when it was wired up. Permanent transponder wiring. Front wheel speed sensors for some traction control. Also shock pots in all corners. Will be good for data logging and fine tuning suspension later on once I'm looking for some more tenths. Shock pots should also be good to data log the effects of aero parts added later on.
  14. Rears also through residual pressure valve then runs through hydraulic handbrake in series. Rear brake pressure sensor after handbrake to pickup handbrake usage in data logs. Brake pressure sensors will be used to trigger the brake lights, also will be used in the motec dash to calculate brake bias. Have got bias adjuster mounted just left of the gear stick hole. Everything's sitting in real good places for easy reach while strapped in but not in the way of a comfortable driving position or at risk of being hit by accident.
  15. Got the brakes all plumbed up in front. Out of master through a residual pressure valve. Front brake pressure sensor.
  16. Also decided that because it was taking a bit longer than I thought to finish the car that I'd get the race engine built too. So that's underway at the moment.
  17. This is a bit of a longer term project part. Still needs a heap of work. Used some polyurethane expanding foam to start shaping an airdam/splitter. Will work on a whole aero package for the car before it goes on probably. Under trays and wing, diffuser etc.
  18. Got fuel tank all vented properly now. And made up a spill tray from a pot lid. Started getting the electricals all back in. \
  19. Windows in. Plastic/polycarbonate except for front screen. \
  20. Better drag this back from the dead. Been a slow few months but making progress. Got the shell basted and primed out at Hendricks in Belfast. John out there is a bloody good bugger. Hung round after hours when I dropped it off and helped me strip out all the suspension and steering stuff. Then got a panel and paint at Burkes metalworks. Not the cheapest but had plenty of hours go into it. Pretty happy how it's come out.
  21. Mobil 95 has no ethanol. http://www.motorsport.org.nz/sites/default/files/motorsport/documents/fuel/Mobil-Synergy-5000.pdf Have a look here there's a few with no ethanol. http://www.motorsport.org.nz/resources/safety-training/code-practice-motorsport-fuel
