As far as I can tell it is, its an early 3 bearing motor. Carjam suggests near on 200,000kms and 32 owners - so.. yeah.

A friend of mines old man pretty much told me to suck it up and pull the motor and he's got a guy that'll hone/plane/sort the block n head, so will get that under way if I don't find a like for like replacement soon. How did I end up rebuilding this bloody motor

Are those the same lump, just smaller CC? I have a lead on a short block and a potentially a complete motor down these ways but if that doesn't pan out I may be keen on that. Otherwise it'll be remove the block from the car, remove everything bash the pistons out and see what I'm left with.

Alright so the cylinders do not want to budge. Had them sitting with the head off soaked in ATF for three weeks now probably. Was being pretty mean to them with a piece of wood and a literal sledge hammer at one point. If anyone knows of a motor for sale anywhere let me know

Thanks for that man, appreciate the insight. Plan was to take the head to a machine shop anyway, so I'll do whats mentioned above. If the block becomes a real headache a friend of a friend mentioned they have a good block in Wellington, so might have to start looking down that path.

I think I see what you're saying, the last two valve springs/keepers are the older Type "A" ones but the rest look like they could be "Type B" ones - that likely to cause any drama? How would one check the valve seats moving? And yeah the coolant passages look.. tasty will do what I can there. Let me know if I should start hunting for a long block instead.

Yeah, excellent point. I'm yet to put a battery to it (negative earth, and had two 6v batteries fitted factory) and have the magic Lucas blue smoke get released into the wild. I'm sure there's all sorts of fun to be had there.

Well, here's that build thread you were asking for haha. Long story short, caught wind of a lovely old chap needing to move this cheap as his house/garage had been sold. Has been sat since 1990 when it got its last WOF, rego on hold etc. Bit of rust in the passenger footwell but nothing terminal so far. Photos of where it was liberated from; Me crawling around it (Yes I also bought that amplifier) The previous owner said it wasn't parked up for any reason but we'll get into that. SITREP; motor seized, clutch master zero pressure, brakes similar, all hoses/fuel lines are brittle. Did some mean things like push it and grab a gear, rock it violently in gear with a couple lads but she wasn't budging. Got it on a trailer and hid it at a good friends house in the wood shed; After letting it sit a couple weeks with penetrant in the cylinders we tried to give it a nudge again, but no dice so I decided to pull the head. I'm not your most mechanically inclined but I can follow instructions. Those eagle eyed viewers will notice the 'keeper' clips for the valve springs have gone for a walk, I found two floating round the rocker assembly, one still half attached and the rest.. well.. I will check the sump at some point. I can't see anything bent or FUBAR but I'm no expert, keen to hear your thoughts. At this stage, I have the carbs at home with me for a birthday, then likely send head for grind/clean/etc, get the cylinders moving after a couple more weeks of soaking in ATF/penetrant, replace HG, reassemble and hope it does things. Anyway, keen to hear your thoughts!

Ah righto. I was under the impression you could go up to 30sqm without running into all the red tape. It is offset from the road, has enough space to park a car in front of it, just. It's near the roundabout in south New Brighton @yetchh it's on TC2 land, has a single garage on it at the moment but she needs some love. Lets say I just fix the existing structure then, is there an OS GC builder (or friend of a friend) that'd be willing to come kick some tires and let me know what's up?

Not entirely sure where to post this, but I'll try here first haha. I've just bought a place in Brighton and the single garage it came with is pretty sad, holes in the metal roof, walls are some vintage thin concrete sheets (potentially asbestos, who knows) and the frames a bit rot in the bottom corners. I'm after a few quotes from local builders to get it made a little wider and longer, so will need to effectively be bowled then a bit of extra concrete laid, frame up, and sides put on (don't need any fancy interior lining done or wiring, I'll do that). Any GCs on here that could take a look and let me know if I'm attempting anything stupid? and give me a rough price? Can get a roofer to do the roof afterwards.

So, thanks to @Raizer @Shakotom @chris r @GuyWithAviators I was able to pick up my new daily from Gisborne. Drove it back in the rain with a blown master cylinder and no read trailing arm bush, which took 12 hours, then proceeded to get a WOF and apply some low. Photos of collection, when collected and now upcoming. Mid drive back; Got the beast back home and gave it all a clean; Then I wanted to apply some lows, test fitted these wheels I had; Picked up a set of cheap D2s and all the collars and body adjustment was seized, couple days of bathing in coke then hitting with a torch and pry bars and it all came loose so gave those a good once over. Got back home and promptly chucked them in; That brings us up to date, just enjoying dragging mudflaps around the place. Good to be back in a shuttle again, RIP my old one.

Survived East Cape on this thing. What a laugh that was, having never ridden gravel, wet or clay shit before. Was much slower than most, and had a handful of 'oh shit' moments, but it was rad. Couple photos to prove the bike and I survived;
