  1. I'm trying to improve it, mate
  2. fs5w71c, from what I can tell.
  3. Floor shift. I did think about throwing in a bench seat, but then there wouldn't be anywhere for cup holders and I'd have to sell it.
  4. Yeah, I actually met a cool girl at a party 6 months ago with a SR20 d21 kingcab daily and some sort of Torana project car. Would definitely have smashed. The point being, the SR swap looked pretty easy. I'm not that keen on shifting the power band up to 4000+ rpm, but it would be nice to actually have a power band. I think it's currently between 2400 rpm and 2403 rpm. I did look into a dez conversion too, but the engines cost heaps more than petrol. A d40 YD25 would be pretty rad, 450 nm, 140kw, and not too heavy. The KA is pretty much the spiritual successor to the Z24 that's in there now, the max power/torque is relatively low down. Plus it has the same bellhousing bolt pattern, and as you guys have said is actually pretty well supported. At the end of the day, I don't want a race ute, I just want to do 110 up hills. Then I can change my mind later and put in a VH41. Whatchu tryna say, pal? I've also thought of more things to do: Replace gearbox - whines on decel in 1, 2, 3 & whines on accel in 4, 5 Find LSD rear end - Self explanatory
  5. I've had this piece of shit for something like 2 or 3 years now. I wasn't going to make a project thread for it, but I've grown very attached to it, and there are now plans for future resto/modernisation. Don't expect anything too soon, at the moment it's all about rectifying the mistakes made by a previous owner. It's like a how-not-to on car modification. About a year after buying it I'd decided it had a leaking head gasket. Na uh. So I put in a new old engine. It's better, but I have no history on it, it leaks oil from quite a few places (like 1/4 as many as before though), and it's running worse and worse. It has fairly bad blow by, bad valve stem seals, and I've just discovered that it's worn a hole in the side of the dizzy, from the inside. Currently returning 6 km/L and slow af. Blame this when the oil runs out. I'm currently trying to decide whether to start spending money fixing this engine, with the intent to do a turbo with blow through carb/efi conversion in the future, or whether to keep patching it up until I can do a D22 KA24de conversion. (<----- Opinions plz!) Other upcoming jobs: Rebuilt the exhaust - It's currently one piece from engine to (side exit) tip, hard mounted to the chassis, with no flexi. Helicoil exhaust studs - See above Replace plastic vents - previous owner broke the clips on the scuttle vents and bonnet vents, then glued them on the no more nails. All the glue failed within two weeks and the grilles fell out. Small rust jobs - nothing major, just the odd bubble. Repaint - Looks good from far and in the rain (as per pic), but is an off white enamel with copious runs sprayed over original cracked paint. heaps of stuff
  6. ^^ Top bloke. Quick to reply that he probably wasn't the most economic choice, and recommended another outfit. Still keen on suggestions for painting etc!
  7. Hello Southerners! My work is based in Auckland, but has a few construction sites around Christchurch too. We're looking at buying 1 or 2 shipping containers for use as storage on those sites. These will also need to be repainted, which may be done by a supplier or organised by us. Does anyone have any recommendations on places to buy and/or paint a 20ft container in Chch? Thanks, Sam
  8. ^^ Definitely look at that. Also, judging by the rubber covers over the shock pistons, the rubber seats for the springs are probably pretty shagged, they make a difference.
  9. Do I need a tray on my ute? I'm thinking about taking the tray off to strip it back and paint it, while I keep driving the ute. I'm guessing I'll need some sort of rigid cover and wheel arches/mudguards in the meantime? Was hoping that some 8mm ply and trailer arches jimmied up would be sufficient to keep it safe in the meantime. Thoughts?
  10. Great work so far mate! Lots of work in that engine. Most of your plans sound good too, really making it your own car. -Holes in muffler. -Carbon fiber lower part of doors around bumpers. -Delete rear bumper/shave it. Please don't do these though, especially holes in the exhaust and the bumper. Exhausts don't have holes till the rear so you don't gas yourself. As above though, keep it up!
  11. Fair enough. I replied to a couple of your posts I saw on fb, but this looks interesting: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/threads/14866-Celica-gt-AE86-rear-disk-conversion As noted in the link, discs won't bolt onto your drum diff.
  12. I'm pretty sure it worked for him. The problem is finding one. I owned my carina for a couple of years and could never get my hands on one. That being said, unless trackdays are what you're building the car for, drums are probably fine. They have a lot of power, they just overheat faster than discs.
  13. Next time you take photos of the back of the garage, please can you turn all the steering wheels on the wall around?
  14. Everything except desprang. Desperately needs more LS.
  15. No. Best bet is a W58 if you want it to bolt up to your adapter.

    PAINT THREAD

The last page was excellent, thanks guys (spencer).
  17. I got the same one, I'll just say that the quality of the guns isn't the issue with my paint finish.
  18. I may or may not have had a massive sulk at the car for 6 months, I couldn't figure out why it was running lean and I'd had enough of it. Plus I was busy with house stuff, so it basically didn't get touched until a couple of months ago. I started by sorting out the ugly patch on the drivers B pillar (no pictures of that), it's now all painted up and looking good. I was talking to a mate (Pete at Mullins Tyres in Avondale, awesome guy to deal with), and he really made me face palm. When the last owner plumbed up the fuel lines he never installed a breather, so the tank has been vacuuming up. I was pretty embarrassed that I'd never thought to check it, but at least it was easy to sort out. Drilled a hole in the fuel cap and away we go. Pulled the car out of the garage for the first time since January on Sunday, sprayed it with the hose and put it away. Next up is getting the driveshaft checked out, then another wheel alignment (5th in 100kms.....), then cert again.
  19. Ahh, I think you're right AllTorque. It's a D21 Navara. There should be another long leaf in there. I might have to head back to Zebra...
  20. I was basing that on this diagram: I don't plan on ever flipping leaves! So is having the axle on the other side of the springs legal?
  21. I'm not really very familiar with leaf springs. I thought that my ute had a flipped leaf, but I have just noticed that the axle is sitting above the springs instead of below. Is this legal? I was going to spend the afternoon flipping leaves for a wof and then buy some blocks. Also, so I'm sure, are these flipped?
  22. Ended up getting a replacement engine for ~$350 on a $1r auction. I'll probably scrap the other one.
  23. Yeah, I tossed up between posting here and fabrication fuck ups. I've just spied a cheap engine on trademe. Fingers crossed.
