  1. That was a mystery nut until pretty everything else was back together lol.
  2. Better use of space available too and i'd say a decent cost saving.
  3. Put a block of wood on your jack, i've used worse in the past. If my jack didn't weigh 50kg, i'd bring it. Seems alright height wise to me though.
  4. What is the load rating on the jetski rims / tyres?
  5. Will try make Sunday, couple of other chobs to do then.
  6. Need anything bringing? And what time does this / the sharns kick off?
  7. The Narva stuff is 55/60W, are you after something lower? Didn't know about the 300 hours bit, never had any fail.
  8. What about 120+ Narva bulbs? Like so: http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/Product/Narva-Headlight-Globe-H4-Plus-120/353567 I had some years ago, though I think they were 100+, found them good and ended up replacing the headlight bulbs in all cars with them. They even have 130+ now, spendy but.
  9. That doesn't appear to be Old English font... Looking great Steeb, does it go hard for what it is?
  10. Is there anywhere in the tank some crud could have been tucked during the whole process? I'd probably give it a really good clean out again, check the condition of the surface and if it looks fine, try it with fuel again. The surface of the metal looks fine from my seat, but up close and personal it might be a different story. Best guess for what material that stuff is?
  11. Do you just weld with MIG? I have a basic Cigweld helmet that was $200 or less, never had any issues with MIG. Tried it with TIG and it didn't work so well (wouldn't darken in time). Welds look a bit cold, are you getting penetration on the other side? They seem to be sitting on the top rather than becoming one with the parent metal.
  12. How much budget is there? Two pulleys and two pillar bearings bolted to something too expensive? I just tried to draw it in paint, but failed terribly. Basically a small pulley fitted to the winch. Which drives a large pully, via a fan belt or some shit, which is mounted to a shaft which has the wire spool on it. Basically how I reduced the speed of my wheel polisher down. This idea may have been covered, but most seemed to rely on the wire going around pulleys which takes up more space, this idea could be kept quite compact. And it's easy enough to source the correct diameter pulley depending on the end speed you want. Polisher example, just spool the wire on the axle. Imagine the large pulley fitted to the turned down section with a fan belt attached. Can't find the pic right now.

Is the other side of Auckland considered local? If not, post an area that meets your requirements? Assuming you're even in Auckland itself, you didn't specify.
  14. I know what you're saying @Spencer, but i've never really undertaken any jobs that would warrant even 1/6th of a sheet. If I had the space and needs i'd have better suited materials. Most materials I use are recycled from something. I just spend more time grinding than welding lol.
  15. I've used old PC cases for metal when in a pinch, works perfectly fine so long a you prep the weld area. Not so easy on the car bits mind you. 6 power settings should be fine if the wire speed is full variable. I have a magnate 180p and its all variable. But even just one setting being variable will give you a lot of adjustment.
  16. Grind any coating off, it will just make it harder to weld. And if it's grabbing crap from the underside that won't help either. The fresher the steel is and the cleaner the better. Even with settings right, crap in the weld will ruin it. Have you seen the thin metal technique video in migwelding UK forum? Its a good guide. Not bagging your attempt BTW, I have been there before, so just passing on what I found works. Set the settings on some scrap before starting on the job too. Plug weld settings will be miles different to welding that area. What sort of settings does the welder have? Leas wire speed could be worth trying with less amps. /beaten by Speeno
  17. My post was aimed at Adoom sorry (edited to suit), I should have quoted. But yeah, not prepping a weld area is just making life harder on yourself.
  18. @Adoom Now it could be the photo tricking me, but have you ground the metal back you're trying to weld? If you have, apologies, but from where i'm sitting it looks like you're trying to weld painted metal to your guard. That is never going to end well, bare metal or nothing. Just looks white to me, and the burn mark indicates shit getting messy. Also with metal that thin, you pretty much want no gap. Is your welder on its lowest setting?
  19. Yeah just do that, they should allow one in no worries.
  20. That's why I asked, I figured they banned tools people can maim themselves with.
  21. I have a grinder, cover my entry fee and i'll come chop it out for you (I don't lend tools like that, once bitten twice shy). Just find out first if they will let us in with said grinder, as ain't no one got time to drive there and be denied access with it. Reason I thought they might not allow it, is that it's not hard to chop off body parts and bring down a whole lot of paperwork for PAP. I have a small recip saw too, but probably not decent enough blade to cut a crossmember out currently.
  22. Will they actually let you take one in?
