The chassis number is still clearly visible in the engine bay, I wonder if I can just get away with stamping a tag with the listed VIN number? Worth a crack, I'd hate to resort to something illegal if it doesn't , serve the powers that be right for making it so bloody hard to get perfectly safe vehicles back on the road!

Hi, Thanks for your reply, the ownership papers have a VIN number listed, which isn't the chassis number. The car was an Aussie import and re-registered in NZ. I have all the info, just not the actual plate. (My current on-road Capri has a VIN plate too since it has been re-registered from "dead".) Such a major pain the ass if I have to go through all the certification etc.

I have a similar problem. Have got a Capri project car that came with some live plates and papers but the VIN tag is missing. Someone asked the question before regarding having a new plate stamped as I don't want to have to go through the hassle and expensive of having the car re-vinned. Already spending enough blinkin' money getting it back on the road!

Cool, the more the merrier, my Capri is pearl golden/orange with black vinyl roof so please feel free to say hi if you spot us. Trying to convince hubby to get his '69 Mk1 Escort ready too, it's such a cutie and far too awesome looking to be hidden away. (Hate to admit it, but it's even better looking than my Capri!)

Just to let you guys know that there is car show in Wanganui this weekend (Sunday 16th), which by all accounts should be good. Also, All Fords day in Palmerston North Sunday 30th March. 209 John F Kennedy Dr, behind Red Fox. Entry is by gold coin. My car will be there, so guaranteed to be good - LOL! (Unless it breaks down between now and then, being a Ford and all!)
